    I think that all beneficial bacteria are beneficial, although this video is on acne, people are also interested in general health, I am fascinated by how much these little guys benefit our health, everything from acne, to dental, and emotional health, and research keeps finding more and more benefits, from pro-biotics.
    looking at evolution, humans most likely had a much greater variety of beneficial biome, eating raw un-processed foods, these guys were probably ingested from the plants and animals we ate, the fiber is what kept these good guys multiplying and living in our bodies. although I have a healthy digestive system, I try to introduce as many varieties and forms of pro biotics, either from Kefirs, Kombucha, or supplements, and pre-biotics as in various types of fibers, to keep those populations growing. so various fibers and starch resistant carbs. I feel my skin and health has improved, only time will tell what other long term benefits I will experience.

    How long does someone take a probiotic for acne? forever? when could you wean off of it and be okay? I am almost 35 and still have hormonal acne but it flares with everything I eat! It went away when I ate keto but who wants to eat like that forever!? great video by the way. Thank you

      Supplements should rarely be taken forever! Use them as a tool for a few months (after checking with your doctor, of course) along with other steps to support gut health. Thank you for the helpful information. Do prebiotics work the same way?

      Glad to help! Prebiotics work differently-they are fuel for the good bacteria you already have

    Thank you. Would you recommend a certain product for someone in their 50s suffering hormonal acne?

      Supporting your gut is certainly worthwhile. And because it has anti-androgenic properties, spearmint yea may be helpful too

    I am 58 years old women with dermatitis of the scalp. What probiotic would you recommend? Thank you.

    • @fionalawsonnutrition
      @fionalawsonnutrition  Před 7 měsíci

      I can’t make specific recommendations for you, as I don’t know your full health history. However, I can tell you that the strain Lactobacillus paracasei ST11 has been found to support the skin barrier on the scalp. This can be found on Garden of Life’s Skin+. Make sure you check in with your doctor before starting any new supplements, and thank you for watching!

    Is Culturelle Women’s 4in1 Protection a good brand?

  • @user-jn1vg5wk2q
    @user-jn1vg5wk2q Před 3 měsíci

    I want to try this! Just a question.. Do I need to take them my whole life or can I eat things that feed those strains, and what do I eat then?

    • @fionalawsonnutrition
      @fionalawsonnutrition  Před 3 měsíci

      No you don’t! Supplements are best used as a short-term tool (3-6 months). And of course, check in with your doctor first. The best way to build populations of Lactobacillus and other good bacteria is to eat probiotic- and fiber-rich foods. Hi, if 1 capsule contains multiple types of probiotics, 10 billion CFUs are for only the GG or the total per dose?

    • @fionalawsonnutrition
      @fionalawsonnutrition  Před 5 měsíci

      It depends on the supplement! High-quality brands should list the bacteria to strain-level, plus tell you how many CFUs of each strain the capsules include.

      Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir and kombucha contain probiotic bacteria, but not necessarily the strains shown to work for acne. But kefir itself has also been shown to be helpful for acne!

    • @fionalawsonnutrition
      @fionalawsonnutrition  Před měsícem +1

      One can, but it may not be necessary. It’s best to try one at a time (after checking with your doctor) to see if it works for you

    Which strain has potential to decrease sebum production?

    • @fionalawsonnutrition
      @fionalawsonnutrition  Před 4 měsíci

      A blend of Lactobacillus strains has been shown to reduce sebum. Early research suggests lactoferrin may also be effective at reducing it too 👍
