These are 3 great drills to practice with your kite. If you are a beginner kitesurfer, or even intermediate, you may find some helpful tips. I spent a lot of time on the beach flying my kite and learning kite control and skills to ensure when I actually started trying to go on the water, I already had a great feel for flying the kite itself. 90% of kite surfing is flying the kite itself. Take the time to practice :)
3 Kitesurfing Skills practice on the Beach (Beginner lesson)
CZcams is a great resource. You can get top tips from great athletes right from your chair. Great way to get free lessons before you even go for your first real lesson.
1. Walking the beach side to side along with the kite sitting on 45 degree (one hand)
2. Back-stalling -> release the back lines (practice stalling and releasing)
3. Water start on the sand (on nice clear sandy beach): sit down - get ready - dive the kite - get up
Very helpful video. I've been wanting to kitesurf since I was in the army at 19, but I'm finally going to get going this year... at 35.
Awesome Jakob! Make it happen! Its fun as.
I am 35. Just started this year.
58 years young and taking my first lesson soon 🤟🏻
65 years old and in my third lesson
Yes sir thank you i’ve been watching your videos ever since I found you on CZcams man and I’ve learned so so much you’re so informative. I’ve looked at probably hundreds of different videos on learning how to kite surfing and this and that and none of them are as thorough as yours so thank you very much.❤❤
Oh awesome thanks mate I appreciate it!
Mate, this is very inspiring and a great set of tips. Appreciate taking personal time off to make the videos. Good Work
Happy it helped mate! We love making videos, so we are just happy to share the info :)
This is awesome, 2 yrs later & your video is still relevant and helping new comers like me!
Luke, thanks for the video. It is very fun to watch. You brings such a great energy. Great tips. It is so overwhelming for beginners to handle so many things.
Hey man, I've been kiting for around 5 years and still find useful things to take on in all your videos....you've helped fill in a lot of gaps in my knowledge and it's great to get the clear explanations and the visual model of how to do something properly.
Nice one thanks David! Glad they help an experienced kiter like yourself!
I am doing board stars now, makes a lot of sense to understand power ratio to get on board you could say will put this into perspective, thank you
Man ... you explain every step so easily, thinking of going back to the sport because of you !,
Cheers brother... from Nashville Tennessee!!!
Cheers mate thanks for the comment!
stay stoked & let us know how you go :)
Great video. Been kiting for 13 years but still enjoyed watching this. Unbelievable looking beach, no one else around.
Cheers Kevin :)
Ya haha you know whats funny, we actually love having other kiters out tho! Always on the lookout for other "friends" haha, kiting is great for that! maybe we'll cya around one day, Thanks for the comment

Thanks for the tips. I tried kitesurfing 5 years ago but got really frustrated at al those failed waterstarts and then quit. Might give that beachstart a try next summer, see if I can practice this a lot on land.
You might consider "cross training" with waterskiiing. Assuming you develop competent kite mastery, the watersport that I think most similar to kites surfing is waterskiing, where you are towed by a power boat. When you water ski, that "initial" pull and stand-up to ski is a basic skill to master. Utilizing that pulling force with coordination to get on your feet quickly is the key.
I hope there are more instructor like him !!thank you for the vid !!
Great series of videos. Well paced, with good explanations and tips. Thanks a lot Luke!
Fantastic tutorials! Learning more than lessons I had with local instructors... Nicely done!
Awesome Alex!
Love your style of teaching 👍💪🤙
Thankyou so much! You explain it in such a nice way, I can’t wait to practice again when there is enough wind. Just bought my first kiteset 👏🏼🤍🏄🏽♀️

Let us know how you go :)

Your beginner lessons are great. Thanks!!
Going to get lessons soon I watched your video on the basics and lingo. (Will watch again before classes) but I’m binge watching these videos I can’t wait to see if this is for me. And these videos are definitely making me feel more confident! Definitely subscribed now!
Nice! Have fun! Thanks for subscribing!
Thank you for them tips. Great help !!!
Been practicing on beach many times after a few lessons. Like flying a plane logging my hours on the bar. Makes it so much easier when you go back in the water😀
Haha, exactly! Great to hear it mate! I actually have a great time flying on the beach.. lots of fun to be had and good muscle memory to develop :)
Luke !. It's a pleasure watch your tutorials over and over again, and much more when I have got everything ready to get into the water and there's 0 wind speed !!!!!!. At least, I'm refreshing all the techniques I'm supposed to do when the wind pick s up! . Regards!. Pablo from Argentina
Thanks Pablo! Great you find the useful! Have fun out ether! Hope the wind has picked up :)
Top marks Luke! All about that muscle memory before getting on the water.
Thanks Bryan!
Thank you so much, I am going to try these exercises.
I’m a newbie to kite surfing. You gave me confidence to get started. Thanks brother..
Excellent video. Thanks! Clear, simple and very well made. Keep up the great work.
I'm going to learn how to do this, thank you for the info. You explain things very clearly:)
Excellent practical tips, same goes for the delivery. Well done.
I can listen to this guy all day and I don't mean in a weird way. Explains so nicely.
Haha thanks Trevor! :)
I also thought of training on the beach. thank you for suggesting that. that's a great video
Great tips ! I’m ready for summer!
such solid clear instructions well done man thanks so much
You do such a great job in your explanations. I am planning on taking lessons, but i do best if i could understand the concepts in my head 1st as much as possible. Could u do a video on just the details of how one would move the bar, what & how to move the bar with our hands in changing the kite in all the difference location or power zones( 12 oclock, 11, 1, 3, 9, ...etc). The speed, amt of tilting of the bar in all of these transitions...just how to control the kite in order to be able to fly the kite, keep it on the air, but in a manageable way. I hope i am making sense. It would be great for those who wants to start!!!
You do a realy good job and i will start with kite surfing tomorrow, thank you
Great tips mate, even for a more experienced kiter, its worth refreshing the basics
Great Video Thanks for the info. Cheers!
That was probably the most clearly and well explained video I've seen yet. Thank you very much.
Perfect ! Thanks Ethan
I've seen people kite surfing all the time on the beach and it looks so intimidating, this makes it seem very approachable, going to buy my first set and give it a go!

he didn't make it.... 😪
Another great video pal
Good, clear video - thanks.
Hey Regornel, awesome, glad you liked it :)
Superb tuition. I especially love the advice to practise water-starts on dry land, judging exactly how much pull it's going to take to get you up - as you take a "bite" out of the wind window and then park it again - without having to cope initially with being tossed about in the ocean, swallowing mouthfuls of salt water. Thanks so much.
Another great video. 👍
Stoked to hear! thanks for the comment :)
Thanks mate I’m new to it and I need as much help as I can get, great tips
Happy to help mate! :)
Dude I love your videos and your style you have taught me so very much thank you and god bless you
I appreciate that! Thanks :)
Excellent Video for learners ...
Thanks a lot, very usefull tips
LUKE !! I love your videos - THANK YOU !! They are so clear and informative I am learning so much (and am an intermediate 12 years in !!) Love the back stall explanation, i still struggle with adjusting the trim when i am on the water (I now have a North Click bar which i love and has helped me so much, and I imagine the Ocean Rodeo is the same, it looks nice!!) And practicing starts i agree with, i did the same in one of my first lessons with a French instructor in Taiba, Brazil, and he did the same with me, once i had 10 perfect stand ups he let me onto the water, and hey presto i was up straight away. Like you say make sure you choose your location well first, many places I have kited wouldn't be safe to that, but that what common sense is for!! Thanks for all this great content and allowing us some of our own common sense... PS Francis great camera work !!
Hey Ben, oh that's great to hear! Thanks for the comment and feedback we appreciate it :)
Hi Ben, does it take that much time to be good at kiting?

Great vid mate
Im going to give it a try, thanks for the tips.
Awesome let us know how you go :)
@@FlukesKitesurfing ive started with a small kite on the beach just to get used to flying the kite. I then moved up to a full size kite in 20 knot winds, needless to say i ate Sand a few times, I'm just getting used to leaning back and having the kite pull me and jumping on the beach, I'm yet to strap on a board, I'll try that soon.
nice thanks mate
You are really genius..
Thank you so much
cheers mate thanks for the comment :)
~Flukes Kitesurfing
