Being the best player doesn't equal being the face of the league. Being great is a necessary but insufficient factor. Tim Duncan was great during his tenure, but he was never the face of the league because he lacked charisma and had a boring play style.

I also thought Jokic wasn't interested in being the face of the league even though he's the best player. but recently, he has great commercials, has a deal with 361 degrees shoes and is the highest merch there and has captured more of the casuals who didn't really know him till last postseason. He dresses well, he's funny, he's witty and is the most relatable superstar. If he creates a social media account, he'll blow up like crazy. He can easily be the face of the league if he wants to.

I'm a Spurs fan so I don't see Eastern Conference teams as much, but the other day I watched Brunson take over against the 76ers after getting elbowed by Embiid. I saw the same kind of determination that I used to see on Michael Jordan's face. The guy couldn't miss. I haven't seen Anthony Edwards play yet. For him to be listed as possibly the next face of the NBA, ahead of Brunson, he must be something special.

Ant has the advantage of growing up with the English language as his primary language so his fluency in the English language and comfort speaking it will be the difference. Winning doesn’t make you the face, Jokic has another player that takes over games and Ant is the takeover guy for his team. The face of the NBA needs a worthy rival in my opinion. Embiid is arguably the only rival Jokic has, but he needs to do better in the postseason. Lebron, Curry, KD, Kawhi, Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kareem, Wilt, Russell... they all had RIVALS.

I hate to say it but Jokic is not the face. If you paid attention to the media this series, it was all “Lebron and the Lakers” headlines above any talk about Jokic and the Nuggets. It’s sad. But that’s the way it is because Jokic plays in Denver and he’s not flashy. The NBA will never fully embrace him. You can also tell by how the MVP voters are already tired of him, with SAS and the likes voting for SGA over the clearly better players in Luka and Jokic.
