Two other underrated stats. Only three players in NBA history ever had 100 blocks 200 steals, Olajuwon, Pippen who did it once. MJ did it twice while also leading the league in scoring. So UNLIKE LJ he was great on both ends of the floor. Stat two. MJ lead the league in steals and scoring for two consecutive seasons. Lebron has never lead the league in any defensive category. Shannon, MJ was older than ALL of the Pistons when he was winning his last 3 rings. The Bulls were literally the OLDEST team in the league in 1998, yet still out shined everyone.
The Pistons got beat, because the Bulls wised up to their antics and MJ learned to trust his teammates.

Reason #1: When LeBron was a free agent in 2010 he said "I want to be the greatest of all time, and that means having more championships than Mike" and he left Cleveland to chase championships. If he wanted to chase longevity and stats to be the GOAT, he could have stayed in Cleveland his entire career and achieved that. So... The debate rages on because of what reason. You can't proclaim you are the best , period. Mike never did that. LeFlop did.
How many times did Mike sit out, unless he was hurt. When he dropped 63 against Boston, he was coming off his broken foot. He went against doctors orders and Jerry Krause and played anyway. GOATS do that because the love the game and want to compete. LeBron, sat out how many games during the seasons...
One more note that no one says. LeBron has played in over 290 or more playoff games, and has failed to win 6. ( Truth be told, the bubble should not have been counted ), so he has 3... Mike played in 174 playoff games and has 6 titles. Never lost when he was on the biggest stage.
LeBron has lost how many finals ?
Awards aside, Mike leads on that as well in less seasons !
Truth is and Mike has said it best. Each era has its GOAT'S... However, Mike's game and his teammates around him were probably the best all around team that had the killer instinct that has ever played. ( Now, having said that... Boston and Lakers were badass ! Never doubt that )... During the time when you could get beat up for coming down the lane, well.... Bron has never faced that.

Even Jordan needed a team around him. That was the difference in the first stage of Jordan's career and then when he finally got over the Pistons hump and got his first chip. He had a team finally built around him and got a coach that didn't rely on him to do everything in the games. The problem is people like to make the argument that Pippen made Jordan. The fact is you put Pippen on any other team in the NBA at that time. He doesn't become anywhere close to the player he became with out Jordan. Jordan took all those guys who had talent like Pippen and Grant and molded them into top tier NBA players with the help of Phil of course and his coaching strategy with the triangle. On the other side. Who did Lebron make better? He didn't. He joined players that were already top tier talent to win championships, and even that in many years wasn't enough as the Spurs whipped him until they got too old. Lebron doesn't have the leadership that Jordan had, and he certainly doesn't have that assassins mentality that Jordan had. The only player that can even come close to what Jordan was is Kobe Bryant. Who himself admitted...he doesn't get that with out Jordan as his mentor. Nothing I have just said is debatable. It's facts. 100% true, and if people don't get it. It's because they just don't understand or are too busy blinding themselves with prisoner of the moment emotions. Lebron is the current thing. Still fresh in everyone's mind. Jordan has been gone for a long time now. Soon Lebron will be gone, and we'll have another guy that people will swear is the GOAT. It's just the way it is, but it doesn't make it true. Jordan. GOAT. They had the best record 72-10 in NBA history at the time until golden state beat it later I believe year 2016 when they lost to the Cleveland in the finals. The Jordans team was stacked. Lol they were suppose to win it all with that team. When your franchise build your team with great players you don't need to jump around to make it. No matter how good Jordan was he had a great supporting cast to win. Lebron never had a pippen or rodman until he went to Miami and he won 2. However 2011 was inexcusable. In every town it was the same, he brought the ball to the masses... the Jesus of basketball...

No one can match MJ's cultural impact/transformation that gives him this GOAT status. Despite, more stats, more rings, or accolades, they can only be followers as he was the one to spread the religion of basketball around the world.

Shannon Sharpe doesn’t consider the fact that Hall-of-Fame players are not automatically better players or tougher competition than Non-Hall-of-Fame players. While Draymond Green has played an important role on the Warriors Championship teams, he would not be considered a strong candidate for the Hall-of-Fame without the championships the Warriors won. In contrast, Jeff Hornacek would be the 3rd Jazz player in the Hall of Fame had the Jazz beat the Bulls in the ‘97 and ‘98 finals. Jordan and the Bulls prevented several Hall-of-Fame caliber players from getting the championship they needed on their resume that may have gotten them into the Hall.

  • @whitefire06
    @whitefire06 Před 13 dny

My Reasons why MJ is the GOAT
    5 - Boldness/Confidence
Michael Jordan epitomized boldness on the basketball court. He fearlessly took on challenges, whether it was facing tough defenders, taking the last shot in critical moments, or leading his team through adversity. His confidence in his abilities allowed him to make daring plays and take calculated risks, often resulting in spectacular performances and game-winning plays.
    4 - Ferociousness
On the court, Jordan exhibited a ferocious competitiveness that set him apart from his peers. He attacked every game with an aggressive mindset, relentlessly driving to the basket, fiercely defending his opponents, and refusing to back down from any challenge.
    3 - Unyielding
Michael Jordan did not waver under pressure. He is an example of a player who embraces pressure in games and never showed any signs of giving up.
    2 - Determination for excellence
Jordan refused to settle for mediocrity and demanded nothing but the best from himself and his teammates.
    1 - Marketability
His boldness on the court made him entertaining to watch but MJ was also charismatic. He became bigger than the game and trailblazed next level endorsements for players.
Others may possess some of these qualities but MJ embodied them all to the max and this is why he was considered a GOAT before he had even won a championship. These qualities can be backed by his individual accolades.
Being 6-0 in finals is just a nice team stat to go along with his greatness. Same goes for the "no game 7" narrative. MJ was already a GOAT but the Bulls had finally built a strong team (including coaches etc) to help win the chips. Nobody wins a championship alone.

MJ was ahead of his time during that error. And the 90s was perfect for him to dominate. His dominance came at the end of the careers of Magic, Bird and the bad boy pistons, and it was before the likes of Shaq n Kobe, the Duncan Spurs, other top Gaurds like AI, Kobe...etc. He reigned supreme at the end of a great era and when the others were babies. I totally agree with Shannon about the Jordan brand being more of a lifestyle than anything else basketball related nowadays. But if we look deeper, why did the Jordan brand became a lifestyle brand rather than an actual sports brand? And I believe that the answer is because, MJ was so iconic during his time that everyone wanted to wear what he was wearing. Even non basketball fans, when the Jordan 11 was released, (I'm 40 y.o. btw) were buying and wearing those 11s. The impact MJ had all over the world was so renowned that even people who aren't really into basketball knew who MJ was, and knew what the Jordan shoes were, and knew what the jumpman logo was. That it got carried over the years, decades even, that the iconic shoes became so much as a lifestyle wear. Imagine being so impactful to the sports world that the shoes themselves became a lifestyle brand. To think that there are a lot of basketball signature shoes that came after what Jordan wore during games that for me, are also well designed "lifestyle" wise, the Jordan brand carried on over the years. It just resonates how much impact MJ really made in sports.

Lebron literally does everything better than Kobe including scoring. Lebron averages more points, has a higher FG percentage, a higher 3pt percentage, more assists, more rebounds, more steals, more blocks, more MVPs, more Finals MVPs, more all star appearances, and more all-nba teams. There is ZERO argument for Kobe over Lebron.

don't be foolish. lebron is better than kobe at almost every aspect. kobe only has 2 rings as the best player. lebron has better individual stats all-around than kobe. points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, blocks per game, steals per game, better field goal percentage, better 3 point percentage. lebron is a better all-around player and a more valuable player than kobe.
even eye test shows that lebron is better. I even feel like I'm being nice to kobe by putting him top 5, but lebron and mj is definitely better than kobe and it's not worth the discussion. kobe is a tier behind both mj and lebron.

MJ got into the Goat conversation organically. I few times in LB's career, he made it clear that he wanted to be the Goat. I specifically recall him saying that in 2013. He had a goal to be the Goat and pursued that goal. But MJ on the other hand didn't care about being the Goat. The man retired the first time after just 9 seasons....that doesn't sound like someone wanting to be the greatest ever. All he wanted to do was to win every game that he played. So for him to be in the conversation of Goat without even trying to be the Goat to me is more impressive.

This is how the basketball fan will remember this great player.
Jordan - jersey 23 and the air jordan "LOGO" the fade away jump shot, that is the signature move and brand of a legend.
lebron - jersey number is 6 later change to legendary no.23 and lebron signature moves is flops.
kobe - imitate jordan playing style and move, technically your watching jordan wearing jersey 8 to 24 + the mamba mentality.
curry - jersey no.30 he revolutionized the 3point shooting to the next level and his signature move is crossover. Defenitely curry will retire as 3point legend.
