In this video Daniel and Mick take on their first ever challenge as suggested by TPS viewers. And it goes thusly…

    One guitar
    One amp
    Four pedals

This video also brings to light something I'd be willing to bet a lot of us would love to hear (more) of - and that's JAMMING! Together... Loved it. How about little jamming at the end of the video as you guys wrap up the video. THAT would be a treat.

    Mine would be:
    Guitar - 68 Telecaster

    Amp - original ‘59 Bassman

My island rigGuitar: 1960 Gibson Les PaulAmp: Blackstar HT Stage 60Pedals: Man only 4 pedals ok here we go. Some kind of wah, a tuner, a noise gate, and a delay. I don't feel I need any overdrive or distortion in this rig since the Blackstar is a rocking combo with some killer distortion and reverb to.If I had to have an overdrive though I'd lose the gate and add a tube screamer. I agree only one overdrive is a tough pick. I got six dirt pedals on one of my boards.Oh and can ya have your phone on the island? If so I'd lose the tuner and just use a tuner app.

Mick, thank you for teaching me a valuable lesson. I have a Lonestar Special and I have had trouble obtaining a sound I like out of it. I have always used the FX loop which engages the second Master Volume and the Boost function. I noticed that you bypassed this function, so I gave it a try. Wow! The blanket has come off the amp. Thank you, for I was on the verge of selling it, and I can't believe I never thought of it.

I've learnt so much from you guys over the last 12 months or so. I kind of always had 'my tone' but I couldn't put my finger on why it appealed to me and worked in the context of the band. Because of you guys now understand delay times/divisions, mid humps, dirty cleans, compression etc. I can now explain why me ear likes certain things and I can dial in a tone much easier than i could before. Whilst the visual quality of your videos improves all the time, the content never dwindles. Love it!

    My four pedals would be:
    - Big Sky for reverb
    - Timeline for delay
    - H9 or some other legit multi-effects pedal (I don't know a lot about these at the moment)
    - Roland RC-300 loop station.... Or if that doesn't count, another good multi-effects pedal... Or if that's cheating and also doesn't count, uhhhh... JHS/Boss Angry Driver
I actually own a Big Sky, Timeline, and RC-300. Pricey but worth saving up for because what you can do with them is incredible. The reviews and demo videos are real. Incidentally, if I could only keep one Strymon pedal, it'd be the Big Sky without hesitation. The Timeline is amazing but in my opinion there are quite a few awesome delay pedals out there that are just as cool if not cooler (depending on what you're looking for). Honestly, I wish I'd have bought the Volante. After having the Timeline for about 6 months or so, turns out what I use it for the most I think the Volante could have done a better job at doing... But oh well, I still love it.

Using the TC pedals is cheating. He can phone in new sounds for as long as the generator that powers his island setup delivers.
I am also missing any considerations of what device to employ to get a steady power delivery for any of it, granted the quality of your standard island genny.
That and the amount of cable needed to put enough distance between the person playing and the competing chug of said power delivery system.
These are important island considerations. I have not even gotten into the issues of the mental echo chamber of village dogs alerting each other up and down the coast for hours in response to that first power chord. Or the potential threat of an accumulating annoyance among local fishermen as fuel that would have supplied their engines is slowly drained from the limited common pool brought in weekly by the failing public boat.
This is why islands tend to have shitty little homemade ukuleles with a maximum of 5 frets - which is about as far as you will successfully get without a proper algorithm and proper tools - PLUS fretwire that has not been already turned into fishing hooks or improvised engine repairs or emergency dental bracers is incredibly sparse granted the 100% import taxes imposed by corrupt national government and whatever even more piraty taxes are imposed by the competing local factions of military and police and their current politico-religious straw man figureheads.
My advice? Craft a bamboo flute and join the 60 man village band and never allow yourself think too deeply about any of it.

I got an idea: Make a pot were you put themes (written on pieces of paper) in, chosen by us (and of course accepted by you). Then both pick one theme and do the pedalboard challenge without knowing each others theme. When you reveal the pedals to each other you can guess what theme the other one has. For example: Dan got the theme '80s' and Mick got 'Desert'. I think it could be fun to watch the approach you took on the different themes, and discuss it, maybe the boards are not even that far off on totally different themes. The themes could be very creative, the results probably too.
