    • @m0j0b0ne
      @m0j0b0ne Před 7 lety +2

      Agreed. There are a bunch on the market and very few sound anything like a Leslie. Last I checked, most Hammond guys were using a Ventilator, when they couldn't have the real thing or a Motion Sound Pro3T. I like Alesis' Midiverb4, Leslie sim; you can actually hear the rotor glide to a stop, pointing in some random direction, LOL. but the downside is you can either switch slow/fast or brake, but never both without some kind of MIDI workaround. PSP's L'Otary is amazing, but it's software.

    Hmmm, I think part of the reason that Dan's board sounds better is cos he knows the pedals so well and has them really dialled in to perfection and can play them well. There's a lot of stuff on Dan's board that I'd only use for odd riffs so couldn't justify the crazy size!

    @jakestewartmusic Před 7 lety +1

    You guys are the best. I was one of the guys requesting this video and you guys listened and that is just too cool. Thanks!
    The Hammond organ bit brings on a very good point- you guys should compare a real Leslie or Vibratone cabinet with a couple of Leslie emulation pedals, Univibe, and some other traditional stompboxes like phaser, chorus, flanger, and tremolo.
    Dial in the stompboxes to get as close to the Leslie sound as possible and compare individually and maybe make some conclusions about what combination of pedals might get you in the ballpark. I feel like the Leslie sound is really complex and each of the more traditional modulation stompboxes can emulate different aspects of the Leslie sound - the doppler effect, the phasing, the tremolo created by the spinning speaker, etc. I've even heard of people splitting their guitar signal to two amps, high passing one and applying phase or chorus and low passing the other and applying tremolo....

      @jakestewartmusic Před 7 lety +1

      Sweet! Thanks! By the way, a great tremolo to check out for that clip is the Moog MF Tremolo. I use mine for pseudo-rotary effects with the "Tone" set just below noon and the "Shape" just above noon. Add an expression pedal to ramp the speed, and it gets a pretty cool rotary/trem effect.

    On the smaller board it seems the only things that were really deficient were the phaser and flanger. OD's and boost were fine, flashback mini fine, as was hof reverb. Even the chorus was pretty nice. Dan's overdriven sound great too, obviously, but with OD It seems like it's easier to get a good one at a lower price and that's somewhat because the quality of the OD sound is based in it doing what it does and how that interacts with your amp. The modulations on the other hand seem to come only from the pedal and need to be good on their own.

    Go big or go home! Dan's board is a dream board. I would definitely have the Headroom reverb and Alter Ego delay. Unfortunately, I play on tiny stages where it wouldn't fit, even if I could track down those pedals. I have to make do with what I can fit on a Pedaltrain Junior :-)

    Too bad they didn't choose the Korg SDD3000 delay pedal; it's much larger and more unsightly than the Alter Ego, and like the CE-1 Chorus Ensemble, it has some preamp tricks up its sleeve, as well.

The price fluctuates but always increasing . These CE-1's are great and they are still affordable . It captures that late 70's to Mid 80's chorus lush .

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  Před 7 lety +2

      +James Todino This would be interesting. Dan and I tend to prefer pickups that are as close as possible to the original 50s/early 60s single coils and humbuckers. We find that classic guitars are able to do pretty much anything... given that we're not into modern metal/djent. And that tends to be the unexpected bit for a lot of people! Strat, Tele, Les Paul, 335, SG..... Pretty much all of the music we love was made using those classic guitars and pups. A few exceptions, no doubt, but certainly the majority of it.

    Hi guys from across the pond! Really liked how you have mainstream type pedals vs the boutique ones. Throw in the Blues junior next time in Micks rig as his board looks a lot like mine :)

    Another great episode! Love to see you guys address noise control - particularly with single coil hum. Don't hear a ton of it with your shows, but it's an ongoing issue with me and my Strat. Thanks!

      +richab88 Cheers Rich. Good clean power to the pedals is all we do. Then it's just being on the volume pot and watching your physical position. Our single coil guitars hum with the best of them, but you can't hear it (much) when you're playing. As soon as you're not, volume down. Cheers and thanks for watching!

      richab88 the ilitch (or something) backplate, which was sold by suhr earlier, has worked really well for me. Our practise place is in an industrial building and has very tricky electrics but that does a decent job when stacked or noiseless aren't an option. Just remeber to check that your middle pu is not rp or it won't work.

      +Kari Abspoel Yep, well aware of it. We've tried pretty much everything and it seems that the good hum killing lord both giveth and taketh away. We like the hum. :0)

      That Pedal Show actually, I meant it as a suggestion for the original comment (sorry for the lack of tags)... I have it on one strat, not on the tele for exactly the reason that it may compromise something however intangible but immeasurably important in the "tone" - 60 cycle hum is part of rock'n roll and I will accept it :)

    I have an sl drive and a ts mini and use a blues junior amp. I actually find I much prefer the tubescreamer going into the sl drive rather than the other way around. Also the sl drive sounds nicer to me with the voltage doubler.
    Great episode as always

      +Daniel Giddens Hey Daniel, Mick here. It's a sweet sound boosting the SL with the TS. Too much gain for me though - I prefer to have the TS after so you get a massive volume boost for solos and such. Cheers!

    Is there anything to be said for an episode of "That Bass Pedal Show"? Could even involve a guest or two if needs be.
    Cheers, guys. Love the show.

      +astrangecement We'd absolutely need guests. Dan and I aren't bass players. Interesting for sure, but I don't have a clue. Precision, SVT and 8x10 is everything I want to know about bass. ;0)

    My mooer elec lady makes that same clock noise sound as your real electric mistress when it is on in my signal chain, is that normal?

    I would have two sizes: massive pedalboard for home studio usage and a smaller sized one for the road.

    Super cool, guys! I just realized I could out-bulk Dan if I put all my old EHX stuff (Mistress included!) on a board along with various Moogerfoogers. Not sure it would fit in my car, though. :)

    Great video! Few times I've thought if I should get just a cheap Tone City for testing out some effects I don't use that much but here it was pretty clear how "restricted" the tone gets with those. Not like you couldn't probably do Zakk Wylde impression with Angel Wing but with different things it might be too "restricted". Well, the phaser is actually the weird sounding from Tone City. On the other hand, I'll buy that Golden Plexi. It's a one setting pedal but it does sound great. Even without the "for a cheap pedal" note. I hope Mick managed to satisfy people who ask cheaper pedals too!

      Not from us. We’ve proved many many many times that the great analogue shit sounds much more agreeable - to us and our old ears - than the new digital stuff. But it doesn’t have to be old. Maybe.

    You know what you could have done? Put Mick's board in a G2 loop. And then used a split for the input like you guys usually do. So either guitar could go trough both boards. ;)
