Very interesting! As an M10 shaper owner, I encourage you to show more. Cheers, Matthew

Maybe I'll try to do a proper video with an explanation of how it works in detail. Please be prepared to be disappointed, I wont be the most charismatic presenter!

    So rad!!
Add me to the list of people that would be ecstatic if you did a video explaining how it works in detail, like the gear ratios and how you got power to the indexer. This really opens a door in the shaper's already massive capabilities

@ThePottingShedWorkshop thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise in gear cutting and precise machining of parts. Your presentation is very detailed and easy to understand even though I must admit that it does not come to my imagination that a shaper can be used to cut Spur Gear more so a Helical Gear. It really amazed me. Your kindness is much appreciated. I am now one of your avid subscriber.

Hi Rob, compliments on the gear cutting attachment, it's fantastic! I have an Elliot 14S, and I happen to work at a gear shop in Canada. You basically made a horizontal gear shaper, it works exactly like a "MAAG" machine in principal. Can I ask specificaly how you took power off the leadscrew? Is the leadscrew directly driving a gear? I can't see it in the video, just curious. I understand the rest of it. Thanks.

Hello Robert. I have an 10M myself. Would any dividing head work for this automatic operation or is it the Elliott one only, should you know? Thank You very much for posting the video would love to see more. Cheers.

I'm trying to rustle up the enthusiasm to do a proper video on it. One day!
Any universal dividing head will work. You need the differential indexing drive shaft.

Robert, this is a terrific piece of work! I deeply admire the engineering that is implied from this short video. I’ve built a hobbing machine in my shop, and I suspect we share a similar affliction. Do you think you could do a longer video of just the machine in operation from various angles to see the functioning of the lead and feed systems?

Its one of my long term plans to do a proper video showing how it works and doing an assembly onto the shaper, probably starting with the basic spur gear version. Prepare to be disappointed, as my camera and presentation skills leave much to be desired!

@@ThePottingShedWorkshop clearly you haven’t visited my channel…my videos are pretty bad! I think I could follow along, even without much explanation. I am very intrigued by your approach! My hobbing machine is based on an old universal horizontal mill, with the addition of a differential index system, and a lead compensation system that may be similar to yours. I will await your video with great interest! Needless to say, I’ve subscribed…
