Finally, you hit the nail on the head. If Ukraine succeeds as other Warsaw block have, it is a supreme embarrassment to Russia. Russia considers itself in all ways superior, especially to Ukraine, and if Ukraine quickly advances on its long border, it’s a huge national embarrassment to every Russian.
This is at the root of the invasion, I believe, and it has little to do with NATO

I don't think this is it.
Had "embarrassment" been at the root, Russia could have easily just continued doing what it has so far, i.e. messed with the country through political interference.
They had a relatively decently sized chunk of the voter block in Ukraine well disposed towards them.
Even after 8 years of the mess in Donbas and consequent political reshuffling and almost a year of full blown war, Ukraine is still hunting for "collaborators" and "traitors" amongst all strata of it's population.
There are underlying Music Videos in Russia circulating that are anti-totalitarian and anti-militarization. They are often linked to family disruption and violence. Today they’re being produced in Georgia and elsewhere.
This Freedom Movement among youth and Pop Music includes SE Asia as music from Taiwan and underground China mocks the CCP I such MV as “Fragile” by Namewee and Kimberly mocking the CCP.
I won’t mention Russian names due to issues currently, but there is great conflict. Putin is badly mocked in many of these MVs.

Don’t get me wrong I can look at a map as well as most people but when I look at a map of Russia I see a large area most of which is unoccupied or uninhabitable and which is actually not Russian.
I wonder how the Uzbeks or such feel about sending their young men to a war in Europe whilst the young men in Moscow or Petersburg appear to avoid the call up.
I cannot find the words to express my feeling that this was just about the best and most insightful discussion on the Russian State and the precepts indoctrinating young minds. As a bonus, there were ideas on how to change this without costing the Earth.
We are in the digital age where things move faster than ever. Hard copy books are great for academics but this discussion is for events unfolding before us and so I would suggest bite size, paid for, downloads or something like that. I just sense that by the time leaders get to the book a lot of the important engagement and planning will already have taken place. Well done Silicon Curtain for yet another high quality guest.

That would be amazing. I’m sure I’m not the only amateur interested in Geopolitics, regime and cultural philosophy who is eager to paint a picture of how nations are functioning internally and internationally to create the various relationships and tensions we see today.
@@Aussie-Mocha i can recommend a yt channel "The China Show" hosted by two guys that lived in China for many years until they got chased out by the Xi regime. They also have their own channels as well as their old channel "ADVChina". A lot of very insightful material across all of them.

Is there literature on successful de-radicalisation? Can it be done large-scale, except in the form of a full-fledged war? I live on the Balkans and it is quite painful to watch friends become obsessed by political ideology and waste their potential on hating others. And it feels like I am contributing to this myself. No matter what I say or do. Really weird and beyond rational comprehension.
I’m trying to get experts and speakers for the channel on this topic - the closest are experts that help people emerging from religious cults…
@@SiliconCurtain Sounds great. Cults seem absurd from a propositional standpoint but even the most intelligent get caught up in them. Which makes me speculate that people might need some elements contained in cults - like a sense of orientation and belonging, feeling needed, responsibilities, looking up to others - and if we don't offer healthy versions (science can have cultic tendencies) they will fall for those which are available - most of which are pre-modern in the sense of not being consciously designed and destructive/exploitative... but it would be great to hear from someone who knows about these murky and vague places from experience.

One of the more mind-bending aspects of this topic is that, throughout the civilized world at large, it is hard to imagine trying to sell people on the idea of fascism as any kind of ideal. Imagine what has to be done to the inherent idealization of freedoms of thought and action and being creators of a better place, time, nation, society, family, etc., that are common to youth in order to get them to idealize "better"--for others, if not for their self-interests--as something that their normal consciences would be revolted by. It certainly makes a mockery of the idea of de-Nazifying Ukraine. Any difference between this and the neo-Nazi gang culture of dominating others by force is that of shade, not kind.
Brilliant work, again. So many interesting and worrying points, but the heartening thing is that light at the end of this long and very dark tunnel is there. Thanks again for such absorbing interviews.👏👏👏👏👏

To be fair, American Boy Scouts and Guides were trained to use rifles as well. My mother's sharpshooter "badge" didn't appear on her Guide uniform by magic.
The worldwide Scout movement was a paramilitary organization back in the day. In some Countries they still are.

57:20 yeah. I was very friendly to russians for a long time. But the last 10 months instilled a very strong opinion on them. And it is not a positive one. I have nothing against those who does not support putins regime, but i have only bad things to wish to those who does. I rly hope that karma will eventually get them.
Russians have very contaiges ideology that is appealing to collective greatness. Those so called "good russians" have to show they don't have that disease. It is similar to horror movie where blood sucker bite not impacted people and they become blood suckered as well. It is scary. Very few can resist. It is well under 1% of russians and sympathizers.
Fascinating conversation but I wish your guest would not use the vague word "queer", which has very unpleasant memories attached for many older LGB people. He doesn't mean to make us flinch, but that's the effect.
Noted - it’s important for us to understand the nuances of such language, and any historical negative connotations associated with them.
Yeaaah…but….the younger generation is all about reclaiming and repurposing words. So you’re going to be putting their noses out of joint by spurning the word. The important thing is ( as you do) to listen attentively to the context, the intention, the meaning. Leave the word policing to the dim wit woke totalitarians, the Islamists, the Communists and this shower of bigots that are the subject at issue.
This interview exposes the embedding of Russian imperial fascism and entitlement to their people. Bandera spent most of WWII in prison. The Nazis and Russians nurtured the Ukrainian nationalist movement to turn them against the Poles. I agree. For Stalin and Hitler it was “divide et impera” Keeping Ukrainians and Poles divided, stoking nationalist hate, was an insurance policy against a serious challenge to their occupation.
As repulsive as Hitler Youth were they did not last and collapse with nazi regime. It seems to me that Putin Youth will not survive the end of his regime.

The "Russian reset" after russian attack on Georgia didn't work last time.
Very scary. Everything you talk about in Russia is having echos in the US. I cannot tell what is Russian subversion and what is home grown as so many structures are so similar. There is a necessary structure for cults for them to exist, but there is much more than that from the normalization of violence to the intolerance of empathy, pumping bigotry to the ideal of mass genocide of everyone in that "other" category. The US is not as far down that road but that puts more urgency in turning that around and the need for competent assistance that much greater.
