    Interesting thought on the barroom fight: it was three on one, yet Tommy won. I imagine this wasn't the first time those boys had done something like this but they were probably pretty influential or their family was so no one was willing to do anything about it. I'm sure that Tommy and the gatlin boys were not the only ones in the bar but no one stepped forward to help the three boys but I'm guessing maybe someone helped Tommy in that they made sure that the boys couldn't overwhelm him by sheer numbers because even righteous fury can only get you so far in an unfair fight.

    • @reginafowler3517
      @reginafowler3517 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I've looked that up. The song writer claims that it was just an 'unfortunate' circumstance that it happened. The writer had tried multiple last names like Barlow but Gatlin just seemed to sound better in the lyrics. I don't think it's a coincidence that he used the last name Gatlin, made them brothers and made damn sure that there were three of them. I read in an article that Larry Gatlin responded about the song. He said that his Mama came home one day and said that she heard a good song on the radio but that it accused her boys of 'rapin someone'.

    Kenny is such a prolific storyteller. Here are some of his most popular classic songs to check out:
    1. The Gambler - poignant life lessons in this one
    2. Lady - Lionel Richie, of the Commodores, wrote this beautiful song but his bandmates turned it down. So he gave it to Kenny.
    3. Lucille - another poignant story that gets the crowd singin' along :-)
    4. She believes in me
    5. Through the years
    6. You decorated my life
    7. Islands in the stream (famous duet with Dolly Parton)
