Thanks for this review! Especially the tips on Dolby Vision
Yw! I'm glad you liked it.
Just used your guide, love this monitor. Great vid, great name. Hell yea.
Glad you're enjoying it. Thank you, I really appreciate that!
WOW! thank you for your hard work - this Windows HDR Calibration program and your hints about setting it up - super useful. i hope i will get pg32ucdm and try that on it- looks very useful!
Yw! That calibration tool is so handy. It really dials in the hdr since Windows doesn't do a great job handling it out of the box. I'm glad you enjoyed and that pg32ucdm is one great display.
Really good video!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks! You had the best walk-through and explanations for the different color settings that really helped me understand my new monitor. Appreciate your hard work!
Yw! I'm glad you liked it.

Awesome stuff!
Thank you!
best video on this topic
Thank you! I really appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you. I got my replacement monitor yesterday after my first was DOA on arrival. But thankfully this one is good and this video helped me quite a bit. I am very techy, but I need help when dealing with settings.
Glad you got a replacement that solved your issue. DOAs are never fun. I’m glad the video was helpful. Thank you!
Great video
Thank you!
WOW! I just calibrate on my AW3423DWF and it's amazing. I was on SDR on windows because HDR looks washed up but thanks for your tutorial, now it's looks vivid, bright and just very good! I watched your video because I just ordered an AW3225QF (reason is I need a 16:9 format and 4k) so will do the same settings once I receive the monitor. Thanks again Taylor!
That's awesome! I'm glad this was helpful to you. Hey, congrats on that 4K. Enjoy!
@@TaylorBrauer Thanks, monitor is awesome! I just subscribe to your channel!
Great video! Liked and subbed :)
Thanks you! I really appreciate it. Have a good one.
Great video, can't wait for me dual AW3225QF to be deliver by this friday!
Thank you and that is so exciting! Congrats!
thank you bro
Yw!
Bit late on catching this video, but thank you kindly for the information! I purchased on of these displays, in part after watching your initial videos (and after the packing issue was resolved) and frankly have been thrilled with the display. I recently started having color saturation issues and hoping these adjustments settle that down a bit.
Yw! I’m glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the QF Hope this helps you find the right setting.
Thank you thank you thank you, you solved problems i did not know i had... VRR for one... I was wondering why it never worked. also every review says turn dolby off... so i just blindly followed.... i dont care about color accuracy, i bought this for gaming and dolby game does look the best to my eyes.. all of the sudden the entire picture is more even and evenly bright.
Yw! I'm glad it helped you. Yeah, folks were really against DV for a long time and understandedly so since Dell didn't let you turn it off for a while. It's good that there's that choice to be had between DV and smartHDR.
Thanks
Yw!
Ok thanks
Yw!
I prefer Creator with sRGB for SDR. For HDR, HDR Peak 1000. I’m using DisplayPort cable.
nice! Creator w/ sRGB is a good combo.
I really appreciate this video. Definitely needed it since I'm getting mine at the end of this month.
Questions though, does windows automatically switch between your calibration profiles as you switch HDR modes?
Also do you prefer to stay in SDR for desktop use and manually switch to HDR or do you leave it in a specific HDR mode all the time?
Windows won't unfortunately. You can save different profiles and then use them as you change profiles on the display.
I find that Dolby Vision is a great sweet spot if I don't want to switch and I used that for a long time. I'm now experimenting with manually switching between SDR and HDR. It's a bit of a chore but I do like the look of SDR.
@@TaylorBrauer I see. I appreciate the reply!
Awesome video. I would love to see the recommended settings for this monitor with a PS5. I can’t seem to get it right with HDR and prefer SDR. It’s got to be something I’m not doing correctly.
Thank you! I think that's something worth exploring. I'm working on a video to hopefully help with consoles.
@@TaylorBrauerlooking forward to it!
@@EdgeOfFuzzwhat are your PS5 HDR settings?
Norton deleted Windows hdr callibration, but i guess thats just Norton. Thanks for the set up help. Got one today and had no idea where to start
I guess it's time to delete Norton, hehe. Yw! Glad it was helpful.
Thank you for that video. Are you using HDR even for desktop/internet browsing ?
I was using HDR with Dolby Vision for desktop/internet for a long time and recently started using SDR. I'm liking SDR atm.
Am using game 1 with 100 brightness and hdr 1000 with windows hdr calibration. Looks good 👍
Did you do any specific tuning in game 1?
@@TaylorBrauer nope. Previously using creator mode gamma 2.2/2.4 but find it not that great. Any other recommendations you might wanna make a new video for it? 😀
@@applemonkey7305 It's a possibility. I'm working on doing one like this one for consoles next.
Seconded. Using Game 1 on 100 brightness, 80 contrast with HDR1000 and it looks great.
@@donjuan2001 I'll try it out. Thanks!
How do I adjust the colours in the "Custom Colour HDR" mode? In SDR I can adjust the colours in the "Custom Colour" mode but I cannot adjust anything in "Custom Colour HDR" somehow?
Hello guys it seems that this monitor has some issue about compatibility with few nvidia gpu when its connect with hdmi 2.1, do you know this ?
Great video. Do you know if the input lag is the same in the more color accurate standard mode and you wouldn't need to be in game mode preset to get the fastest?
Also it seems like having Dolby vision game or bright is the brightest overall in hdr even tho the calibration cuts out at 500 nits vs about 1000 in peak 1000? Doesn't seem to matter if the content supports Dolby vision or not, it looks alot brighter on everything vs the other modes. Is something off in that regard?
Since this is OLED the response time is consistent for the hertz you set on the monitor. So 60hz has a slower response time and 240hz has a faster response time. Response times don’t differ between color profiles. If you’re used to an IPS screen having overdrive settings there’s none of that on OLEDs.
You’re spot on with Dolby Vision. It’s an overall brighter picture. Having DV off and using the HDR profiles will give you more dynamic range at the cost of less overall brightness.
Very good video ! I'm on PS5, once the calibration is done on the console, and the HDR mode is selected on the monitor, are there any changes to make in game ? For example on Cyberpunk, we have paper white, tone mapping midpoint, maximum brightness and hdr10 pq saturation. Will the game automatically select the most appropriate settings ? Thanks in advance
Thank you. I'm not familiar with CP2077 on PS5. I only have it for PC. I'd recommend trying each out and stick with the one that looks the best.
Creat video, Thanks for info on calibration, I have it on HDR peak 1000. But when I look in the display in window I get peak brightness of 460 nit. How do I raise it to the 900s Thanks
Thanks! and you're very welcome. If Windows is reporting 460 nits then it either needs to be calibrated to get the new value or for some reason Windows is reporting it wrong.
2:46 I think it should be mentioned that the monitor supports "variable refresh rate" as a concept both via HDMI ("HDMI VRR") and via DisplayPort ("DisplayPort Adaptive Sync"). It is even certified by NVIDIA as "G-Sync Compatible (40-240Hz via DisplayPort)". Curiously it has no FreeSync certification by AMD (yet?), even though RTINGS reports that it is supported.
So as a PC user the only difference is that via DP the computer won't detect the monitor if the monitor is turned off - at least it's like that on my system.
That's a good point. VRR is supported for both. Dell states that FreeSync Premium Pro isn't compatible but there's no mention of the lower tiers which is why basic FreeSync works. It's pretty confusing, ngl.
Grate video, Thanks for info. I just calibrated. I have it on HDR and Peak 1000 but when I going into the display , it reads 460 nits. How do you get it to the 900s? Thanks
Same. My nits is only 460 too.
You need to run the Windows HDR Calibration tool to set the max brightness to 1000 nit
Great video I would like to know if you have any settings for PS5 Console?
Thanks! I really wanted to include console but it just didn't fit in this video. I'm working on a dedicated video.
Keep it at hdr peak 1000 turn on game mode hdr setting is set to u don’t have to worry about calibrating hdr . I turn off or on hdr depending on the game thou. Also change to hdr 400 if game is too dark like horizon forbiden west
DP supports VRR too.
That's awesome! Thank you.
Is there a way to calibrate the color in console ? Xbox series x or play 5, I think I that the color and image is kind of dark without colors,
Check out my video after this one where I cover a lot of console related settings.
As the guy above said, would be great to see a PS5 settings also.. much appreciated
For sure, that's a great idea. It didn't fit for this video but I'm working on a dedicated one for consoles.
@@TaylorBrauer awesome!! Thank you.. much appreciated ! would love to get this monitor v soon
So one thing i dont understand sorry :)
If i enable "Auto HDR" Windows wont switch from SDR (Dekstop) to HDR when enable HDR in a game? You have to manually switch in the Dell UI? :(
Thanks!
And another question.
When you have run the "Calibration" in windows and save the profile. Do you need to do more?
My "Advanced setting" says "HDR-certification" no found?
Right, Auto HDR doesn't switch in-game and not in-game. I'm not sure what it does tbh. I have to switch if on and off everytime I want to switch between SDR and HDR.
That should be all there is to it. Save it and it's good to go.
Awesome and well informative video of the AW322QF! Do you prefer SDR or HDR?!
HDR of course !!!!!!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed. Have a great week.
Can you update firmware and hdr calibration on Mac OS?
The firmware update is only supported for Windows 10 or 11, atm. Mac does have a color calibrator but I'm not sure if it's specific to HDR.
Hey Can you share the link of a TYPE C TO DP cable which supports 4k@240hz over DSC
It's one that came with a previous monitor so I don't have a link. It's a DisplayPort 1.4 to usbc cable. Should be easy to find on Amazon for not that much.
HDR just seems too bright on my monitor I wish we had a brightness slider. any ideas how to fix this?
The calibration tool should help and also setting it to an HDR setting that is more balanced like "True Black". You could also try "Dolby Vision Dark".
Does G-sync work for anyone with DP? I've tried with the cable it came with, I've also tried with a cable I already had, BUT it keeps saying the monitor is NOT compatible for G-sync. Really frustrated. Any feedback/tips would help, thanks.
When's the last time you updated your drivers?
@TaylorBrauer I have the latest drivers/firmware for both my 4090 and the monitor now.
@@TaylorBrauer so any ideas beyond driver/firmware updates? Lol g-sync seems to be nonfunctional for a lot of people. This whole "g-sync compatible" slogan seems to be a marketing gimmick. I love how to put g-sync stickers on the stand too 🤣
@@n7_gow951 That's definitly frustrating and contacting Dell support is probably going to be your best option. They'll have the resources to get you a solution.
I have followed your steps but my system shows a peak of 3600 nits. Any idea of what am i doing wrong?
Thanks for the awesome guide, btw
@@ediogracie Yw! 3600 nits! I'm not sure why that would be happening. Does the image look ok?
On my monitor, I don't have access to Brightness/Contrast settings. Is it because I am using a ps5?
There's a couple possibilities. Either HDR/DV is enabled or console mode is turned on. These will prevent changing of the brightness in the OSD.
hello,AW3225QF or PG32UCDM,which one recommend?
There’s a pretty nice gamut of features between each of them. I’d recommend the one that aligns with the features you expect. They’ll all look phenomenal in terms of picture quality. Try to see them in person.
@@TaylorBrauer For some reasons, I couldn't see it in person. How about comparing it with FO32U2P? I heard that Dolby Vision is missing.
Meny thanks for this! But im on windows 10 so i cant use the calibration app? :(
I haven’t used Windows 10 in a few years so idk what’s available for it. I’ve heard HDR in Windows 10 is a bit of a mess.
@@TaylorBrauer Meny thanks for the reply. Just installed windows 11 :)
For some reason I am still getting 460 nits peak brightness for HDR1000, does anyone know why?
Sometimes that happens. Maybe try updating your graphics card drivers.
I've followed all the steps but my HDR peak 1000 seems to be capped at 450 nits according to windows. I'm on latest firmware for monitor and drivers are lastest for my 4080 gpu
I wouldn't put too much stock into what Windows reports. If it looks the way you want it to look then that's good enough.
@@TaylorBrauer but that's my point, it looks way more washed out than non HDR mode
@@845H1R That's no good :( Is it Windows 11? Maybe try an older graphics card driver.
I would say, your colour results in Standard mode may not be anywhere near as good on an nVidia gpu. I suspect colour management may be enabled in the AMD Radeon software, this uses the GPU to automatically clamp the wide gamut of the monitor down to sRGB. nVidia does not have this feature so the Creator-sRGB mode will achieve more accurate colours.
Increase brightness to 100%? This will accelerate burn in?
Probably will. If that’s a concern then consider not turning it up. Keep in mind it’s got 3 years of burn in warranty.
How can I calibrate on Windows 10? It won't let me download that app since it's w11 only. Thanks
I haven’t used Windows 10 in a few years so idk. I’ve heard Windows 10’s HDR isn’t great compared to Windows 11.
@@TaylorBrauer what does win11 improve in terms of HDR? Should I upgrade? I run a 7700x 4080 system and heard it doesn't play well with AMD.
@@Dewmuss I'm not exactly sure on the differences. Windows 11 has been rock solid for me. If the upgrade is free, I'd recommend it. I have an AMD 7800x3d and it works perfectly fine.
@@TaylorBrauer I took the plunge and works perfectly. Thanks mate. Loving this monitor
@@Dewmuss Yw!
hmmm. i put it on HDR Peak 1000 yet my display settings show only 433 nits...HDR Trueblack is showing brighter with 460 nits....Whats going on here lol
Oh no :( Try running the Windows 11 HDR calibration. Also make sure you have Dolby Vision off and update your graphics card drivers.
@@TaylorBrauer did all that. Nothing. Saw on reddit and dell site that this is an issue for many. People are hoping dell rolls out a firmware update to fix this.
@@ericpadilla2454 Dang, that sucks. Hope they get a fix for those affected. You might contact Dell and see if they can help you out.
Set the color to 12bit in nvidia control panel to have real Dolby Vision.
It's a 10-bit monitor. There's no getting around that in software no matter what nvidia control panel may have you believe.
I dont get the dolby vision popup when I turn on hdr
That's odd. And you confirmed DV is enabled in the OSD menu?
@@TaylorBrauer From what I can see in the Dobly Access app it is enabled. I'm just not seeing anything in Dolby (Netflix / Prime ). I even installed codecs for Win 11. I do get HDR and it says dolby vision in the display settings below HDr 1000 but no popup. Please advise if you can.
Figured it out needed to update nvidia drivers. However its still showing peak britness at 460 nits
@@darrylking15 You might need to re-calibrate in Windows.
@@TaylorBrauer got it to 1000 nits awesome video btw helped out a lot.
using display port 1.4 with this monitor but windows saying hdr not supported
Check that your graphics card drivers are up to date. Sometimes out of date ones will cause weird issues like that.
@TaylorBrauer reinstalled drivers removed with ddu. Worked after reinstalling dell driver flawless now great video BTW.
@@fightinirish73kk Nice! Glad you got that working. Thank you.
Why does it look huge in the thumbnail 😭
It's a large monitor.
You are not using it correctly. In your windows settings it says 10-bit, while you should be using the 12-bit function of this screen to have its full potential. Verify that you are using a compatible HDMI 2.1 compatible video card. If that is the case, you must enabled the 12-bit from the Nvidia Control Panel if you are using a RTX 4.x video card.
Changes literally nothing for this monitor. 10 bit or 12 bit will be the same
@@xtarii.x That's your opinion.
Oh dang really? I’ve been using 10bit but I’ll give 12bit a go
Bad idea, 12 bit limits your hz by a drastic amount as HDMI 2.1 is only 48gbps and doesn’t support DSC (Stream Compression) unlike DP 1.4 which has excellent lossless DSC right out of the box and allows 4k 10bit signal @240hz
@@JRayHD You may done something wrong, or perhaps your video card can't handle it correctly.
My screen runs under 12-bit at 240Hz, 4K resolution without any issue - with the provided HDMI 2.1 cable and the RTX 4090.
Do not use HDR in windows settings use HDR RTX AI... looks much better.
Plagerized from everyone else...
