The Future of MacOS Gaming Looks BRIGHT With Sonoma and Game Porting Toolkit
I just ordered it and really excited to use it 🎉
Congrats! I hope you love it! It can pack so much gear.
you may wanna watch some itx building guides from professional itx experts like optimum tech or gear seekers, as well as machines and more, your bottom fan setup is not and intake fan that's an exhaust and given than the top radiator that came pre-mounted by CM they are working as exhaust fans and blowing air into the radiator and then out of the case from the top, with all that being said, you have created a negative pressure inside of your case despite using the ventilated panel, and that TG panel was the stupidest idea from CM ever made, those kind of cases especially us itx builders dont really care about esthetics and looking into the internals , however good thermal performance is the major problem here,
Thanks, yeah those are some good builders. I did make a mistake with the bottom fan being exhaust that I quickly caught but not before releasing the video lol. The glass panel does reduce thermals but not to significant degree. While I prefer the ventalated side panel the vertical graphics card is really nice to look at through the glass. It would be even better with some good interior lighting.
@@TaylorBrauer man you are making that triple fan GPU suffer🥲 with that TG panel
Apple needs to make a “Studio Display Air” at $999. They are leaving so much money on the table from regular users who think (and rightly so) that $1,600 for a monitor is absurd.
That would be really cool to see. They do such a good display that it would be nice if they really had some compeling options that didn't cost a kidney. Having a tandem OLED standalone display for $1600 might be worth it though.
If you plan to build a dual monitor setup with old Thunderbolt displays, you should take into account that the devices almost all have different brightness levels due to their age. Over the last few years I've had about 7 Thunderbolt displays and the brightness has been between 3,900 (almost yellow image) and 5,900 (pretty good white) lux. Apparently the displays burn out over the years depending on how heavily they're used. I measured 6,500 lux during the iMac 5K DIY monitor conversion.
That makes sense. The 2011 iMac I have has really yellowed. Eventually these older displays will be really hard to find.
@@TaylorBrauer There is a similar problem with the Retina iMacs from 2014 and later. For my DIY 5K display, I had to buy several old iMacs until I found a model without a pink edge (yellow/pink/brown edge on a white background), ghosting/burn in, dust between the display panel and the glass...
@@kyrbies Jeez, sounds like finding one in good condition can be a challenge. Thanks for sharing and I'll look out for those things if I decide to look for a retina iMac.
The only thing u need to know is if your GPU can handle this bad boy. That is all
The 2070 Max Q in my laptop was able to drive it. So, it's got some room for some older cards. You just can't expect the full 240Hz.
With Mac M1 Pro - DP 1.4 to USB-C, got it. You are getting 4K@120hz with that setup, right? Can the M1 Pro get higher than that? If not do you know if a better Mac model can?
I’m hitting 4K 120 with the M1 Max but the Pro should be able to achieve it too. The main issue with getting 240Hz is that M1’s don’t support DSC over HDMI. However, it seems that M2 and beyond does support DSC over HDMI 2.1. I can’t confirm this though.
@@TaylorBrauer tnx!
I have this monitor for my ps5 only. How do I update the firmware of the monitor? I don’t have a pc.
You will need a PC running Windows 10 or 11 to update the firmware. Unfortunately, Dell hasn't offered any other alternative such as consoles or MacOS to update the firmware. One option might be to contact Dell and see what they can do for you.
@@TaylorBrauer thank you sir, i actually bought a cheap windows laptop from bestbuy and updated the firmware that way. Gna return the laptop since i don’t need it anymore lol
Literally a great review on it, I'm also thinking to buy it....
Thank you! Check it out in store, if that's possible. Seeing it hands on might give you perspective.
Your lucky to not have trouble in 2 years. My Mac Studio display died after 18 months. First signs of trouble was its inability to turn on if the Mac Studio was restarted. I was able to to get it to turn on again but this was only after having it powered down the Studio screen for at least 8 hours. Pulled this trick off 3 times but once I upgraded the OS to Sonoma it bricked out totally. Nothing will trigger it to turn on. I now own a $2500 beautiful brick. I'm in negotiations with Apple related to the next step. So even a all metal monitor can be a turtle killer
omg that's awful. I hope Apple can do something to fix your display.
@@TaylorBrauer As I have found out it's a fairly common fault. Some users get a new logic board, others are just given a whole new Mac Display. Don't get me wrong it's a wonder when it works, but I notice over the past 8 years Apple have been changing their construction methods and my belief this is affecting their devices.
Why would you not buy apple care plus? I pay $50 a year for it and that includes accidental damage.
Very good review. Never thought very highly of Tim Crook. With Steve Jobs maybe the pricing was also quite high, but the products weren't a mixed bag of goods and bads.
You can afford to buy your apple keyboard and and the brightness control will work on Windows 10.11, volume too.
I’m very interested in your comment that you’re a programmer. I’m an iOS developer by day and occasional PC gamer. I don’t want to loose any text clarity or have any annoying fringing.
In my opinion, it's the best monitor I've seen for both productivity tasks and gaming. However, there's 360Hz - 500Hz monitors that are very good for gaming. There's the Apple Studio Display and the XDR display that will have better text clarity. So, it depends on what you want. I think that the 3225QF does both very well. I use it for everything all the time.
I remember when this came out had just bought like maybe 2 month a LCD version which was the top at the time mv was refur which got lucky the stuff on like the keyboard and other thgin were still on it, but then this came out I end up buying a 512 version which I like the color betetr on this version then the 1TB one, I own the other screen and i cna say the oen without the coding it better for me. I don't use my outside so for me it better then onyl thign I wish i had was more memory, to afraid to open my and do that work not with how mye eye is. I am hoping the SD cards go down in price tog et a 1Tb version but for now i have 2 512 for it. I also didn't not like the case how it had thre extra vase which doesn't really protect yoru Steam Deck and it wear down after a time which i have friend who has it but the case would not stick back in. But I did like the color or the special edition oen if it onyl came in Purple lol
Very nice. I'm glad you found one that you liked. A transparent purple would be so sick. Reminds of the purple N64 controllers.
Thank you so much for the Video. I already have this Monitor since Febuary and now it looks better than ever.
You're very welcome. I'm glad you found my video helpful. Have fun!
Just watched your video on my brand new AW3225QF and I totally agree. Holy smokes, this is the best monitor EVER SEEN. Period. I am really tempted to buy a second one for my GF PC...
Congrats! I'm glad to hear you're really liking it. haha your gf would love it. Happy gaming ✌🏻
i cant get it to detect my monitor any help would greatly appreciated
Maybe check your cable. It should be the usb-b to usb-a cable that came with the monitor. Also make sure you're using either windows 10 or 11. You might want to restart your computer too.
hello hmmm i like it better which 1tb oled or 512gb oled 🤔?
Both are great. Better depends on what your expections are.
Best video yet on this monitor. You covered just about every use someone will have for it.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
Hopefully the PS5 Pro will run all games at 4k 120hz.
That would be really nice. I'm pretty exicted to see what they have in store for us. Hopefully the wait isn't too much longer.
Hey Can you share the link of a TYPE C TO DP cable which supports 4k@240hz over DSC
It's one that came with a previous monitor so I don't have a link. It's a DisplayPort 1.4 to usbc cable. Should be easy to find on Amazon for not that much.
I have r5, thanks for your input. Hard to find people like you. My problem, 2 flashing lights indicates memory issue, 16 rom 2133, no boot, new 460 ps, new i7 6700, new mb, rear green light, reset cmos, no help from dell tried to sell me r16. Want to get this r5 to boot. Respect your input. Deeply appreciate your time. Failure after installing 3200 rom. My bad.
oof, sorry you're having to deal with that. I would maybe try no memory and see if you still get the same code. Then add ram one stick at a time. Sounds like you've done extensive troubleshooting. I'm wishing you luck in finding a solution.
man... impressive! the steam deck couldn't run devinci resolve... huge plus! that's what I use, and here in the future, the rog ally has improve a lot! thanks for the demo man
Yw! It’s a little beast for sure. AMD and ASUS worked some magic with that CPU.
@@TaylorBrauer for sure! the future it's bright
Very useful, thanks!
Awesome! Love to hear it. You’re very welcome.
so if one has a 17” + laptop he must u-haul it
haha. The bag claims it fits up to 18” and I believe it. Your back will hate you though.
Also no USB-C with serious charging capability? This is a large display. I'd hope for 90Watts USB-C at this pricepoint.
No 90W usbc here. It’s available on other variants though so if that’s a must I’d recommend looking at those.
My man this is the first video I've seen on your channel and buy 2 decks unsponsored is ballsy. Subscribing for support. Got my 1tb yesterday too.
Thank you! I really appreciate it. Congrats on your Deck! What are you looking forward to most on it?
I guess consoles spoiled me too much and my fears of the system freezing sometimes using a PC have been made manifest on sine occasions. I downloaded Tekken 7 and was quite let down at home it ended up looking. Models looked muddy. Either I turn my brain off and focus on other things or disregard playing AAA games with this. Tried Arkham City and it ran better. 2 different generations but Arkham City has more happening in 1 screen compared to Tekken 7 so I don't know what gives. The generation gap might really be a deal breaker. Not that much of a good experiece with those. Been playing Muse Dash lately and it's been a good experience. Thinking of getting Hades 2 or Cuphead.
@@weichiang89 Triple A games are def a struggle with the SD. I'd recommend looking into turning FSR on whenever it's available. That'll scale the image down without too much loss in visual quality while also giving you more performance. Support for it varies from game to game. I haven't tried muse dash but Hades 2 runs very well.
2024 and there is still no competition in the 5k segment. I have been using ASD for 1.5 years and I think it was a great purchase.
That's true. There's hardly any 5K displays out there. Glad you're enjoying your ASD.
Did you do this before or after the update?
This was before. It's only gotten better with firmware updates.
Great video man! I’m looking to get either this monitor or the 27in qd oled Alienware QHD 360hz for productivity and gaming. Have you had the chance to check out the QHD monitor out yet?
Thank you! I haven't seen the QHD one yet but I do have a QHD 240Hz 27". I wouldn't recommend it for productivity as it just doesn't have the clarity that the 4K has. For competitive gaming the QHD should be awesome, if you can drive it with your graphics card.
I’m looking for a monitor that I can do school work and other productivity tasks on as well as game. Does the 4K monitor do a good job at resolution scaling? I play games at 1440p cause 4K is a little too much for my PC. May upgrade in the future though.
Great review by the way, love how clear it is.
Thanks! I appreciate it.
If this was really intended to be the iMac studio housing, it might be influenced by Ive’s experience of modern fashion with its retro aesthetic and lack of front facing logos.
It looks stunning. I do wish the bezels were a little slimer though.
QD oled even new one still has soft text at 32" 4K. also appears to have CA chromatic aberrations. I pref 5K retina for productivity primary. OLEDS are awesome for games and movies.
I would recommend you view a 4K QD-OLED in person, if you haven’t already. You might just be surprised at how sharp text is and how little CA there actually is. I can’t speak to others but the Alienware I use has been top tier. All that to say that while the QD-OLED isn’t technically as sharp as the ASD, it’s close.
@@TaylorBrauer I've just used/owned new LG WOLED and MSI QDOLED 4Ks. I do enjoy the faster refresh rate. but tough to get used to the resolution.
@@jaywbus Ah, I see. Glad you got to experience both. The PPI of the ASD is pretty amazing.
thank you, great video.
Yw! I appreciate it. Have a good one.
Seeing the price for any of these monitors, really... *HERTZ!*
How do you mean?
Now that Apple launched their own 1st larger OLED panels maybe we don’t have long for a new version of the Studio Display. Hopefully they’ll offer a simpler version without all the bells and whistles and a more professional one.
That's a really good observation. Tandem OLED is a very exicting technology. If Apple has cracked it and can scale up adding it all throughout the line-up then we really have some exciting things to look forward too.
Nice and helpful video -- thanks!
Yw! I'm glad you liked it!
thank you bro
Yw!
Great video. Very thorough. Can I ask, how is e arc when using pc? This monitor with a Sonos beam 2 could be a nice combo. Shared between my pc and ps5
That’s a great question and tbh I haven’t tried via eArc on PC. I have connected it via bluetooth and that works flawlessly. I might have to get back to you on that.
Do you get 120hz in the Alienware?
Yep, but only via usbc. I have a usbc to displayport 1.4 cable I'm using to connect it. If this Mac (M1) wasn't limited to an HDMI 2.0 port then a HDMI 2.1 cable would achieve 120Hz. The M2 and M3 have HDMI 2.1 ports.
What about a good cover for protect your screen of scratches, dust, etc?
That would be really useful in harsh environments. For my uses I don't have anything really abrasive affecting the screen, unless you count lots of cat air. A cover is a great idea if you need it.
It was fun seeing your reaction to having your first iPad of any kind. I’m surprised you didn’t comment about the screen. Try watching some 4K HDR movies, videos, or HDTV on that thing and let us know what you think. I’ve had iPads since the first, and I’ve found I don’t use them for anything other than reading and viewing media. Having one on my pre-Covid relatively long train commute with nothing but the most basic cover Apple offered was the setup for me. I’d rather use a Mac laptop to do anything else that I do. I can see how if you do any sort of drawing the Pencil/iPad combination could best any other option, but otherwise, Air laptops are plenty small and light comparatively, and much more productive for me personally. We know you’ll try gaming, and I’m absolutely interested in your follow up on that application of it! Have fun!
There’s always something special about experiencing a new Apple product for the first time. That OLED screen is gorgeous and I can really appreciate it after viewing some HDR content. This iPad will be a media consumption beast. I’m in the same camp as you on the Mac. I can already tell there’s a lot of powerful things I can’t do on here compared to the Mac. I’m really excited to explore it more, push it to its limits (including gaming 😁), and share out a review.
swipe app up to close
That works, thank you!
I wish this was the one or two terabyte model, it has the fully unlocked chip
There’s def a use case for that full chip. Personally, I don’t see myself making use of it. I’ll have to use it more to get a better understanding of its capabilities.
@@TaylorBrauer i play cod mobile a lot would like to play on that iPad with M4 It would be crazy
@@eduardo_guzman11 You have good tastes. CoD is so much fun. I’ll def consider that for my review to see how well it performs on the binned M4.
Great set up, congrats, Taylor! The apps are already "quit" even though you see them in the App selection window. To completely shut it down, simply "flick" the app upwards but there's really no need as iPadOS is good with memory/resource management. One thing I'd wish better for the KB is a slot to put the pencil. As is, if you toss the KB+iPad in your bag the pencil would come off. Does the kb add a lot of weight?
Thank you! Ah, I see what you mean about flicking the apps up to close. Really good point about the pencil. It’d def fly off in a bag. Compared to the iPad itself the keyboard adds a lot of weight. I still wouldn’t call it heavy though.
Hey, super confused here. Why wouldn't I be able to plug my PS5 into the monitor and use my gaming headset for audio?
You can use your headset like you normally would by connecting it to the PS5. The headset wouldn’t connect to the monitor. Most console headsets use a device to interface between the headset and the PS5. In my case that’s the wireless hub for the Steelseries Artis Pros and the Mix amp for the Astro A40s. It’s probably different for the headset you have.
@@TaylorBrauer So in my case, I am using Sony pulse headset so it has the receiver plugged into the playstation. I assume this would work fine in my case? And any other audio when using the monitor I could connect via bluetooth headset?
@@jkrisko34 yeah, that should still work. Same for bluetooth audio.
Very useful videos on Dell
Thank you!!
hello! probably a random question but can you list the monitors you used in this video?
For sure! It's the Alienware AW2721D. It's a bit older and there's a new model that supports 360Hz.
Can you review the difference of the new firmware, M2B105?
Probably not a whole video but it improves the soundbar compatibility for those having issues. I had a small issue with soundbars in my console video. This probably addresses that.
Have you tried to test the VRR? With the latest FW, is there noticeable flickering with VRR ON especially dark regions?
I haven't experienced any flicker, no.
Is it worthy for a refurbish at $800?
If it were me, I’d def jump on that deal. That’s insane!
@@TaylorBrauer is there any burn-in issue after months of usage? Do they have burn-in compensation in this model? The 3 year burn-in warranty is that still applicable to the 90 days warranty from the refurbished unit? Thanks
@@videoreborn I've had zero burn in issues with my monitor and I use it heavily on the daily. I would think the 3 year warranty would carry over to the refurbished monitor but I would contact Dell and confirm before you make a purchase. That warranty is very valuable.
@@videorebornwarranty carries over from the manufacturer date.
@@DrakonR is the burn-in having a separate warranty than the 90 days for the refurbished model?
