    Carrera Crosscity E Electric Folding Bike
    The Carrera Crosscity Electric Bike is perfect if you’re looking for a reliable solution for your daily commute or fancy a bit of leisure riding with an electric boost. With a 313Wh battery offering up to 30 miles of power assistance on a single charge, this bike will more than cover the average commute. The battery feeds its power through a stable rear hub motor that can propel you to speeds of up to 15.5mph. Plus, because the battery is integrated into the bike, the Carrera Crosscity E has such a sleek, balanced design that many people won’t even know it’s an electric bike.
    The light folding frame comes with a kick stand, mudguards, and rear carrier, for added practicality on the go. 8-speed Shimano Acera gears mean you can smoothly manage the power, and V-brakes offer controlled stopping when you need it. Completing this small but perfectly formed little bike are double wall alloy rims and Kenda tyres. You’ll have everything you need to take on the urban jungle with the Carrera Crosscity E. Rest assured, this model also comes with a 2-year warranty on all electrical components.
    Motor:
    The Carrera Crosscity is built around a Shengei 36V 250W rear hub electric motor system, seamlessly integrated into the rear wheel. The system is equipped with a Speed sensor, which automatically engages the motor once you begin pedalling to provide power assistance to your ride. As required by law, the motor will automatically stop assisting you once you achieve a speed of 15.5mph.
    Battery:
    With a hidden internal Samsung Li-Ion battery, weight is balanced providing an improved ride quality, over those with rear-mounted batteries. The battery is protected from the elements on the Carrera Crosscity. With a battery capacity of 313Wh / 8.7Ah and a range of up to 30miles per charge the Crosscity is very capable on the daily commute or leisure ride. As standard on all Carrera E-bikes, the Crosscity comes with an integrated smart control system that protects the battery from overheating, short circuiting or overcharging. The battery re-charges in just 6 hours, and comes with a full 2-year / 500 charge warranty.
    Note - the total travel distance will depend on the capacity of the battery, rider and luggage weight, power mode setting and riding style.
    Head-Unit:
    The electric motor of the Crosscity is controlled via a multi-function LED display -offering Low, Medium or High levels of power-assist. The display / control unit includes an integrated push button to switch between the 3 assistance levels, alongside the power On/Off button. The display is located on the left side of the handlebar and its compact size reduces the risk of damage when in use.
    Note: Maximum Rider Weight Including Luggage: 100kg
    Frame / Components:
    Frame: Lightweight folding aluminium
    Gears: 8-speed Shimano Acera
    Brakes: V-Brakes
    Wheels: Double wall 20” alloy rims with Kenda tyres
    Folded Dimensions: L93cm W40cm H74cm

    Enjoyed your video, i replaced the seat for a comfort one. Raised the handle bars and saddle and kept the tires pumped up to the max, to avoid punctures. Not a single puncture luckily, and i ride everyday for over 15 miles. I have owned it for a year and really like it, it's simple - humble and super useful and small, easy to maintain. I purchased a pretty fancy e mtb during my ownership, rode it a few times and missed the little crosscity so much that i decided to return the e mtb and haven't looked back

      Hi! I have a question... The safety catch on the folding/lock mechanism keeps popping out for me when I go over a bump or have been riding for a while. Wondering if you've ever had this issue? It disconnects for me mid ride and can be really annoying at times as the bike wants to fold, battery disconnects and I ultimately have to stop or try to reconnect mid ride.

    Thanks for this walk around. As you say, Carrera products never seem to get reviewed, only the more expensive brands like Brompton and Gocycle It’s good to read that some long term users haven’t had any reliability issues with this bike as that’s a make or break issue with any e-bike. The new Mycle Compact seems to be its main competitor.

    I bought the crosscity today and the usb port in the battery was missing, Halfords guy stated that they have changed the design of the battery. I was annoyed with this and handed the bike back to them before refunding me they said they would get me a new battery with the usb port on it. I was happy with that and now waiting for the new battery. My first ride took me over 20 miles and I still had three bars left on the charge. I did not force the bike as it was brand new and my first ever ride. I found the seat very very uncomfortable and I may purchase some sort of comfy saddle. With no suspension it it is a very rough ride going over bumps with no suspension. I have purchased the gel filled tyres which protects the tyres from punctures. As a first bike I enjoyed it and it is ideal for commuting. I paid £999.00. The video is spot on and it is as stated. 28th August 2022.

      Mine didn’t have the usb port either.
      Totally agree with you here 😆
      It’s a decent a nippy ride but the technology is evolving rapidly.
      You can probably get a lot better nowadays for the price

    Good layman's review, which is what I wanted. I was thinking about a folding bike but was a bit concerned about stability with the 20" wheel. I'm now leaning towards a standard size bike with larger wheels.

    • @barelyamused
      @barelyamused  Před 2 lety

      I needed the convenience of folding the bike as I sometimes get a lift to/from work and it’s useful to be able to have the ability to fold and put it in a car boot.
      If it wasn’t for that reason I would definitely have purchased a full size bike.

      @@barelyamused Ordered an Eskute Wayfarer this evening. I've already got a Thule towing ball mounted carrier so a folding bike wasn't a necessity. I only want it for recreational cycling with my wife on cycle paths in Devon and Cornwall so will suit me perfectly. Health issues have stopped me for the last year or so on my old bike so electric will get me back out there again. Thanks for helping me with my decision.

    You can’t go fast because of the small wheels and that is also why it feels twitchy, I ride a BMX, a road bike and a 29er and they are feel and ride different.
    I like this little folding bike, I’ve been looking at it for years to get one for a laugh but the mrs says I have too many bikes 😂
    Faster I’ve gone one the BMX, around 25mpg, 29ner around 35mph and the road bike I’ve done 46mph
    Good video 👍

      Small wheels make absolutely zero difference to the top speed of a bike. The top speed is regulated by the gearing, not the wheels. Indeed, small-wheeled bikes are often faster, and especially faster accelerating than larger-wheeled bikes. Alex Moulton invented his Moulton bikes (with small wheels) and they were so quick that the rules were changed to exclude small-wheeled bikes from races.
      I used to have a Brompton bike with small wheels and I didn't know I was being chased by two policemen on mountain bikes because I had run a red light (at 7am). I had no idea they were trying to catch me (they only finally caught up with me because I stopped at the next major junction before setting off again - if I had known they were behind me, there would have been no way they would have caught me).

      I can probably ride faster but I just don’t feel safe on it going too fast.
      The bike is steady and I know I’m contradicting myself here but I just feel overall unstable on it

    Hi, thanks for your video! I just bought one of these bikes. I’m having some problems with the battery. Just wondering if yours do the same. When I leave it overnight, next morning i can’t turn it on by just pressing the button on the little dash thingy! I’ve got to press the button near the battery off and on again. Is that the same with yours?

    • @barelyamused
      @barelyamused  Před 11 měsíci

      I normally turn it off via the battery whenever I’m not going to use it for a while, so I wouldn’t notice that. (If it was the case for me)

    • @barelyamused
      @barelyamused  Před 11 měsíci

      Depends on the assistance level you use. But normal use would probably get me around 30miles per charge.
      Obviously depends on rider weight etc

    I've had my Carrera Crosscity E for just under 3 and a half years now - back in 2018 it was selling for £700 and at that price it was just about holding its own with the competition at the time. Now (Dec 2021) priced at £1000 in my opinion it is HOPELESSLY OUTCLASSED even within its own brand stablemates - no display, torque sensor or disc brakes make it a hard pill to swallow nowadays.
    Saying all that having a pannier rack, mudguards and kickstand fitted as standard plus having a low centre of gravity means that it is an excellent bike for shopping and carrying luggage around - I even hitch my Burley Travoy bike trailer laidened with the weekly supermarket shopping and it pushes up the hills without complaining.

    I wish I never bought this bike it's been faulty constantly and reading some of the reviews on Halfords it shows a potential death trap with battery's stopping suddenly in traffic and wheels and chains breaking and slipping off happened to me once with a truck behind and the chain snapped on high gear.

  • @masterleatel

    It's not slower because of the gears it actually has a quite respectable gear range it's the size of the wheels. I have had both and swapped this for a emtb. Smaller wheels smaller speed. There's not much around CZcams about this bike so would appreciate whatever there is to be atleast accurate. Many thanks for the video anyway, hope the bike works out better for you than it did for me. Also the battery level is "deceptive" because it measures voltage level rather than remaining capacity, this is the same for most ebikes and if you want something a bit more accurate you are going to have to do some research and most probably shell out a few more quid than the budget range as there are companies implementing solutions to mitigate this problem. No battery re-gen because it's a wheel hub motor, jheeze you really have done no research at all about this bike quite curious about what gave you the confidence to decide to tell people the what for on CZcams, if it's a layman's explanation I would understand but you actually seem like your trying to sound like you know what your talking about

    • @barelyamused
      @barelyamused  Před 2 lety +3

      I’m not claiming to be an expert on anything. It’s a basic layman’s explanation, I’m sure that’s pretty clear to anyone watching. Like it would be nice to see a video from someone who really knows what they’re talking about when it comes to this bike.
