Chris and Gar are part of my favorite Megadeth line-up. Peace Sells is their best album. People tend to praise Friedman and Menza more, but after Rust in Peace I feel Megadeth left the raw aggressiveness behind. Those early Megadeth albums are so raw, added with the jazz influence from Chris and Gar it was the perfect blend.

Thanks for the good interview guys. This is Andy from Fatal Opera. It was pretty awesome to have Chris and David play on The Raven. It is a great tribute to Gar and all of the old fans, including me. It's also cool that I was there when Gar recorded his drum tracks a few years ago. We actually considered several songs for the trio to play on but decided on The Raven. Mustaine was asked to contribute, but generously declined, it's all cool. As for a Fatal Opera tour, who knows. I'm up for it. I feel sorry for whoever has to play Gar's parts though. By the way, Chris also plays on another track with Gar called The Mask of Time that is on the Fatal Opera 3 album. For those who may not know, I put together a compilation of unreleased tracks with Gar playing drums earlier this year. Some of the songs are straight up demos and some are more produced. It is the last recordings of Gar Samuelson. David Ellefson and Chris Poland put the icing on the cake. It's good to be part of this history. I can attest to the fact that David and Chris are great musicians and good men. Peace.

At 29:00 Chris is talking about Rust in Peace, but the interviewer thinks he's talking about System Has Failed, an important distinction to make. Basically what happened was Dave re-released Rust in Peace with demos as bonus tracks and Chris played on the demos before Marty Friedman was hired, so some of the bonus material had Chris Polands playing from like 1989. Chris assumed he was going to get royalties for the demos when they were released and then got mad when he didn't. I'm sure Chris got paid for System Has Failed the way he was supposed to.

Awesome interview guys! If you talk to Chris again, we have to hear about Damn The Machine. One of the best albums ever made if you ask me. I’m lucky Music Warehouse put the three song promo cassette in my bag when I got Alive III in 1993.
Those are the three best songs on there but so many others were great as well. The Mission, Lonesome God, On With The Dream, among the finest Metal out there. Can’t believe those guys weren’t considered a bigger deal. At the time every kid was obsessed with Vulgar. That was a history-changing album, so, not even Countdown or The Black Album was considered the big deal once Vulgar hit.
Hopefully Damn The Machine gets the recognition they deserve one of these days.

I think all those bands had a healthy competition in those days. Megadeth started with slower more Sabbath style but fanmail asked them to be faster than Metallica and they increased the tempo to ridiculous speeds for their debut!
Metallica's and justice was them trying to be as progressive as possible for comepetion and holy wars was Dave trying to make a riff epic like master of puppets. The healthy competition is what made those bands deliver their best music!

I have to say that Chris is spot on!! Look we do everything for the fans however we have to get paid. And for Dave to say something like that to Chris! Is one of the stupidest fucking things he could’ve done because if it was him we all know how he would’ve acted. Unbelievable

También es típico que cuando participas de una super banda (sea cual sea esta) quieran sacar más dinero del que le toca.
A veces, las bandas tienen que cuidarse demasiado en esos temas, aunque creo que la peor era Slayer con Lombardo !

Chris seems like a really cool dude. No wonder he's not getting along with Mustaine. He should've been paid. Dave owes it to all those men who helped shape his band over the years. Those first two Megadeth albums were vital to the bands success, and they would be nowhere near as good without Chris. I find the guitar playing on Peace more interesting than Rust.

Mustaine mines guitarists for new material then dumps them when they are out of ideas- he's a musical vampire. What happened to him? He's becoming quite the disappointment. He treated Junior like he was trash, when his friend needed him the most. Recording over his bass parts? Really?!! Dave's greedy.

Metallica kicked Mustaine out for a reason, over the last 35 plus years we are seeing what they did in 1983. I respect Mustaine and love his music but other than the hat he is a tool . There’s a reason also the former members of Megadeth including Poland are now touring as kings of thrash, even chuck the drummer joined for a night or two. Megadeth lost me after youth album, peace sells is
      Their
      Best in my opinion

'We did the best we could with the budgets we had' - convenient that he forgets that they blew half the recording budget for Killing Is My Business on drugs, leaving them with much less to record it - which is why the production is so shit.

How TF was Chris Poland going to rejoin Megadeth in 1989 ? Dave Mustaine was recruiting Jeff Waters from Annihilator , and Dimebag Darrell from Pantera about that time . Marty Friedman was auditioning as well . 🙄🤔😳🙈🙉🙊💥🔥

    • @marcingolab6227
      @marcingolab6227 Před rokem +1

Thank fucking god Dimebag didn't join Megadeth! As a songwriter he was at least on par with Dave, as a guitarist he was better, and in Pantera he got to record with Anselmo who was and always will be a far superior singer than Mustaine. The metal world dodged a bullet in 1989.

@@marcingolab6227 I'm kind of bummed that Dave didn't pair with Jeff Waters in 1989 . Their sense of humour and Musical Influences would have been very similar . Their Riffs woud have been unbelievably complex . Jeff's solos would have been Phenominal paired with Dave's in Megadeth . Dave wanted bad asses in his band ? Jeff Waters was that .
