'A Loon' comes from the 'Strings' EP of 1994, and also featured on 4AD's Mail Order only video collection which came out in 2001. The original 'A Loon' was on Kristin's 'Hips and Makers' album - this is a rework with strings.

She looks absolutely insane when she performs... And I love it.
Good lord. Millions made by garbage musicians, and yet KH still underrated & under appreciated.
Kris is one of the least appreciated musicians on the planet. She is ours.
damn she's hauntingly gorgeous and sounds so beautiful love the changes midpoint
I'm such a fan of her music and skillmanship on guitar and writing but can is alright to point out how incredibly physically beautiful she is? God. THose eyes.
One of my favorite songs ever...this woman is a goddess
Those intense eyes, that sway. She's like a snake-charmer, almost hypnotic.
Almost?
Saw her in concert for "Hips and Makers". Just her on an acoustic guitar...it was one of the best shows I have ever seen.
Same.
This works because Of Kristin's voice over the strings, it was something different from her usual sytle, but it works stunningly the E.P is really fantastic, a brave and bold move into a new way of singing. I loved it when I first heard it and time hasn't faded it's brilliance
Kristin is amazing
She’s a funny woman in concert!
Talking about her kids pretending to juggle inanimate objects with their eyebrows.
Genius and humble.
🙌🏼🤍🕊️
Sweet to see Kristin and her boy.
I just saw this for the first time. love the original version. this, however, so pulled my heart strings...
I am a huge fan of K.H. thanks for posting this beautiful photography and sound.
One of my favorite songs of all time.
I will always love this song❤
Excellente Kristin!
Sweet this is partly in Amsterdam! So awesome the great Kristin Hersh was there *happy*
I just saw her last night in Cincy. Amazing as usual!
Makes my head spin so perfectly!
… and I thought "Your Ghost" was the best Kristin Hersh video!!!!! I was sooooo wrong!

What freak of nature gave this a thumbs down?
Three freaks now but never by me I love everything she does!!
It's repetetive. I have "Hips and Makers" on repeat often, but this is IMO not the best song on the album.
Funny that you call us "freaks" tho.
@@Peter-xs2mu It is repetitive in a way but what's being repeated is 3 different melodies going at once. That's what grabs me about it. I love it for how distinctive it is.
@@Peter-xs2mu I would say that I find the repetition to be an excellent sound writing device that Kristin is employing here. I don't disagree with you in your criticism, but it works here.
Someone who didn't like it. People don't have to like what YOU like. Get over yourself.
Sublime.......
I love Kristin and 4AD.
The strings are Awesome! Kristen is Awesome !
Why is she such a genius! (Let me count the ways)
Such a sweet video one of my favorites
This song are my thoughts. So true. So real.
Beautiful
AMAZING.
That voice, those eyes…..
i love this
I really like her music. She reminds me of Suzanne Vega, one of my all-time favorites.
WAY more soulful.
I love this song. I love Kristin ! ❤🩹
Hermosa
Loop! Station vibes
Amazing!
Talent. Beauty. All.
I’ve yet to see a kid it doesn’t just love jumping in puddles❤
This song sounds very unique to me.
This is Amsterdam, right? Btw, Kristin rules! Always has, always will.
yeah i remember thinking that, it is, her kid too?
PoshLifeforME Yup Amsterdam and her kid, beautiful video beautiful woman!
legend!
This is my world. Is this bad?
Brilliant.
brilliant
nice song
There's a "Scott Walker/John Cale quality" in this song.
Good observation.
Amsterdam is freedom,Yess
fuck she is beautiful!
Was the last part Amsterdam? Love this album, have the vinyl record still somewhere at my families place: The good old times we listened records after school and bought what we like or order, we want to pick it up few days later: Putting vinyl albums as art on your wall: All this spirit is gone ending me in only download stuff and go to concerts. The artists are the heroes and should get their pay, not the IP-maffia!
All of it is Amsterdam, the first part is filmed in Paradiso
I cut Davids hair in Seattle back in 1997.
A comment from lisa gerrard's live concert brought me here
venus in furs
If I could remix this a bit, I thought about moving the quiet part of the song to the beginning from 2:22 and put the beginning at 2:22 but add some wall of guitar sound in with the string section to add more of a rock edge. Song has some very cool vibes throughout. I just felt their was a little more to extract out of it. I really enjoyed it.
Philistine.
You just know that, along with at least half a dozen of Kristin's other songs, Steve Nicks wishes she'd written this one.
Kristen Hersh is spiritual and profound, Stevie Nicks is just sexy. Take profound over sexy if you are smart.
Not her best by a good stretch a little lonely so l like that aspect as l know all about the abstract emotions of loneliness when one reaches the crowd but the crowd dont exist. Call it taking the long road back.
Wicked scary how the script is the same for different people suffering with Bipolar disorder... I am one of them...
MDD works too
What is this song about?
lonapolonapolo insanity
KleineFichte Kristin's son. Notice the lyric "heirloom a loon". Listen again and think of the insanity of having a child.
obbssesseeddddd
This video breaches the Copyright of the "City of Amsterdam": How u dare Kristin!" ;) IP is bullsh
I heard that she said she had Schizophrenia and that she'd hear the music completely first and then write it down. Brian Wilson who it is said has Schitzo-Affective disorder would see music on musical staffs and then write down what he saw and use it in his compositions. I think people should stay very far away from Psychiatric labels and Psychiatry in general, but if they want to describe themselves that way, it's up to them. I raise this because I think Psychiatry never discusses the positives and benefits of thinking differently, and sees lateral or unusual thinking as only a negative or disease.
As for the the 2-part nature of the song: I love how the mood of being judged and misunderstood BY a "loon" or judged AS a "loon" (the lyrics can be read both ways) then how it segue-ways beautifully into the 2nd mood of warmth, guilelessness, child-likeness and gentleness as she returns to her own world where she now "likes that lunatic" (whether that be herself or someone else). It's an amazing shift in mood and metaphor that is rarely captured in music and words.
This song has nothing to do with schizophrenia, most creative people actually have bi polar, which cause depression, which is why you'll hear of people in music or arts etc will have some sort of depression or you don't hear from then for a time as the bi polar has spazed out and have to sort it out before they can do stuff again.
The whole song is about her son, which is why it's the way it is as the son will drive her crazy but then at other times she likes it being crazy to the point that it seems perfectly right.
Circa Aeon I haven't finished reading her autobiography yet, but I believe she was misdiagnosed as schizophrenic as a teen and later found out she was bipolar.
@@raveballs well that was supposed to be the corrected diagnosis but most recently she’s said it was neither of those things but PTSD connected disassociation which she explains is why she doesn’t remember writing or what any of her songs mean as she wasn’t present when she was writing them. she also has synesthesia following that awful bicycle accident she had as a teenager and since then it’s is how she sees music and creates.
Same with Philip K. Dick, skating that thin line between the chaos of madness and transcendental brilliance.
Is it possible to have too much Electro-shock treatment according to the psychiatrists? Is a safe dose really a safe dose? Who will be providing the feedback afterwards? I ask these questions because it happened tp a friend of mine named Kristen
jaja WTF, is she possessed !!??
