I was never lucky enough to have the cool risk taking teachers...I always got stuck with the super strict, stodgy old bastard teachers. But I got to hear all the laughter and commotion going on it the next classroom all the time, because it was quiet as a tomb in our classroom. Plus, I got to hear the stories about all the cool shit that happened from friends in that class.
I so wish I had a teacher like this. As I got older I realized how many things I am interested in and how well I could have done in those fields. Instead my teachers wasted years of my life convincing me if I didn’t want to do useless math everyday I wouldn’t amount to anything. Much respect to this guy.

If the floor had been freshly waxed the teacher could have ignited it. Had the bottle had a bit more oomph it could have gone into the ceiling space and started a fire. While it was a fun demonstration it was had the potential to have a much worse outcome. Should have been done outdoors in the middle of a big empty parking lot.
We had a really chill teacher that brought his electric guitar for the sound waves unit. He did 10 question quizzes on Fridays that you could write the answers on anything: One time someone handed in an orange peel with their answers and he still graded it. He was the legendary teacher that everyone told fond stories about. Fast forward five years, it turns out that he was sleeping with one of the students secretly for two years and got a warrant for dodging court. Be careful of the cool teachers, if they're relatable to 14 year olds, somethings probably not right.
And those are the teachers we need, ones that enjoy what they do and want to make people learn while having fun. Nothing beats seeing a reaction with own eyes than read it in a book.
I don't think it's tough to find a guy that enjoys playing with fire. Just hire more male science teachers. Then give them a budget and a fire extinguisher. Kids are going to learn while having the best year of chemistry and/or physics they could possibly have.
In 1975 or 76 I had a science teacher at Ramona High in Riverside. His name was Van Camp, and he was just like this. Then in 1983 I had him again, at Riverside City College. He had mellowed. We all still loved him and will always remember him.

Another during the chemistry portion had us go to swamps, collect methane bubbles in jars & light them in the lights-off classroom. And this was just middle school!

Pepsi bottle, make about a 1/4" inch hole in the cap, then take the (clean) bottle, put about 2 drops of gasoline (we used an empty eyedrop bottle) put the cap on, roll the bottle to coat the inside and mix the gas around. Then you lay the bottle on the ground, light a match, push on the bottle a bit, hold match the the hole in the cap, let off the bottle (draws in the flame) it'll go about 30-50 feet . Never had one explode or cause a fire if you use common sense.
Had a college professor who made his own liquid oxygen and put some in a bottle and showed how it could build pressure and pop the corks. Then he corked one bottle flipped it upside down and held it til the bottle flew up and did a similar amount of damage to a similar ceiling tile. Epic. College seems long ago now but that memory is crystal clear.

There's either isopropyl alcohol or acetone in the bottle both substances burn quickly on contact but they don't burn the object their on and it basically just propelled the bottle up it's completely safe if done correctly and really fun Note you have to fill the bottle 2/3 to 1/2 full with isopropyl alcohol swish it around to create fumes in the bottle then drain it only then is it safe to light and look up some other experiments like this and correct me if I'm wrong in this comment

Propane in a bottle, and acetone on the floor. At work we had 5 gal buckets to soak tools in. Some chêcked out a electric drill to stir resin, when he started the drill in the bucket, the room got white, socks caught fire, and the guy in the door way, got air time. Don't use acetone indoors without ventilation. . .

I loved that the H.S. I taught at would let me conduct experiments similar to this (outside)! Kids love being excited and involved in proving an experiment.👍

You won't. I was a science teacher and you will pay attention to the shiny lights and sounds but won't be able to explain what you saw. We would do stuff like this all the time but when we get to explain and show you how it works, you tune out of it.

Propane in a bottle, and acetone on the floor. At work we had 5 gal buckets to soak tools in. Some chêcked out a electric drill to stir resin, when he started the drill in the bucket, the room got white, socks caught fire, and the guy in the door way, got air time. Don't use acetone indoors without ventilation.
