    This is the most concise tutorial on how to get started. I have had the Rode Wireless Pro for about two months, but have not felt confident about setting it up until I watched this--thank you!!! 😃

    There's no need to export from rode central if you plan on using 32bit recordings. Just pull the native files straight off the TXs.

    this is a MODEL tutorial. Great detail, no fluff and most importantly - gives you the big picture overview that most people forget (for example the bit on timecode - what a rabbit hole!)

  • @canphoto

    Great tutorial and review, a couple things I noted and wanted to add. Hopefully it'll help someone out there the way it helped me. = )
    Frame rate:
    If camera is recording at 60 or 120 FPS, set the Rode FPS setting to 30. If recording at 50 or 100 FPS, set the Rode FPS setting to 25.
    Timecode: (Just how I do it)
    Make sure you select the same frame rate as your camera, the main mode I use "Merged - Routing & Timercode". Turn on timecode and I use mode "Timecode 1". In Premiere Pro I drag the 32bit float file into the timeline below the internally recorded sound, select them both audio clips, right click, select "Synchronize" and they snap together to match.
    32-Bit Float is ONLY recorded on to the transmitters, the internal recording to your camera/card is not 32-bit float (depending on camera most likely 24-bit). So if you want 32-bit float (which is why you bought these) you always need to transfer and use the audio from the transmitters.
    Cheers.. = )

      Thanks for this comment, is the 32 bit audio file way larger than the 24?

    • @canphoto
      @canphoto Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@mikami9921 I haven’t made a size comparison, but the audio files are very small in general compared to the video that goes with it. So I wouldn’t think about size, more about the quality you get from 32. I’m far from an audio expert so I couldn’t tell you the specific difference between 24 and 32. I just record in 32 to make sure I get the best quality I can get out of these.
      There’s a huge jump in size with shooting raw or compress video in which you might need to consider size, but not so much with audio files. They’re MB, not GB. = )

      @canphoto thank you so much❤️❤️ These 32-bit audio file will be game changer for me because I heard they don't get distorted or muffled. When I usually record my voice, I suddenly raise it when yelling, and the result is always distorted

  • @eloaville
    @eloaville Před 7 měsíci +10

    Great tutorial, thanks! I noted that when you plug the receiver to a computer, you can actually change the gain mode preset based on your camera model. The Rode Central then sends you to a guide page to set up the camera gain levels properly. For instance, the gain mode preset was -6dB for the A7S III while you set the audio gain to 1 on camera.

      I was logging on to make that exact comment. I used the Rode Wireless Pro, armed with my knowledge from this video, in my first shoot a few days ago using the Rode preset. I found the in camera audio pretty hot. I then found the GH5 preset, my camera, and it drops the output by 12db. Should be much better.

  • @spelunkerd
    @spelunkerd Před 7 měsíci

    That's a comprehensive overview, thank you. It sounds like the advantage of the 32 bit float is as a second backup in case you mess up the camera gain, in which case you need to retrieve those original files recorded in each mic. Hopefully you still have those files when you get into post processing. I was under the impression those 32 bit files are exported, but with the camera as a middleman, not so. If you go through the extra effort of linking manually rather than collecting them in camera, you will find and store those 32 bit files on the computer. If you use channel 2 as a lower gain backup and use the camera to do the synchronization I'm guessing you will rarely need to find and link up those original 32 bit files.

    • @YeetMusic
      @YeetMusic Před 4 měsíci

      I actually use the 32bit alot, as the quality is so much better with more dynamic range that the audio recorded to camera. Also its super easy to replace and sync in davinci resolve. Its just amazing

    • @adrien_marsaud
      @adrien_marsaud Před 3 měsíci +1

      Good to know @@YeetMusic ! Could you share in a few words how you proceed with the change in Davinci ? Thanks so much.

    • @YeetMusic
      @YeetMusic Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Adrien, I don't use timecode just audio sync via waveforms, this works best on the latest studio version of Davinci. To do it you just drag your 32bit wav file into the timeline, then select both bits of audio (the on camera and 32bit version ) right click once selected and then scroll down to "Auto Align Clips" - Based on wave form. Then its done, you can now mute the other track. Then you will have to change the 32bit to play in stereo, to do this right click on it select clip attributes, then select audio, change it from mono to stereo and select the same channel output, ie embed channel 1 and your done. please note sometimes align by wave forms does not work but this is very rare if you have good recordings, you will just have to manually sync it. I hope this helps, Kind Regards @@adrien_marsaud

    • @YeetMusic
      @YeetMusic Před 3 měsíci +1

      You can also unlink the old audio, and delete it and link the new audio to the video to make it easier to edit once everything is done.

    • @YeetMusic
      @YeetMusic Před 3 měsíci +1

      also the 32bit file is cleaner when there is a lot of echo or reverb in the room, it really isolated the speakers voice. I don't know why this happens but I'm glad it does. I can make an example if you need to hear it.
