I was a bit tired when finishing up this video lol!
Apparently you can transfer the files from the RODE if you connect the entire case! (Still bad that you can't transfer them individually).
The 18 hour battery life of the DJI is when recharging in between takes, the RODE actually gets 20 when doing the same!
Your review is honest, I hear the video using an Audio-Technica headphones with the RodeCaster Pro II, and the DJI mics sound weak compared to the Rode, indeed, the controls and package of the DJI rocks, but the main purpose is have a full audio, I hope Rode fix this issue in the future. BTW, Can you do a review with both mics using the same lavalier mic? That will remove the bias of the tiny mic on the device.
I had this thought. Is it possible that DJIs deadcat is thicker and blocking more sound then Rode deadcat, so DJI mic doesn’t sound as clear?
I wish you tested mics without deadcat 😊
I'll do a plus one on this. A test with a similar lavalier would be great. Despite the other advantages, I will not get the DJI Mic 2 if they sound like they do in your test.
Same here. To say the Rode Software is a downside, had never used it. The update process, the time sync with all devices and all the other features are great. And the sound quality of the dji is realy bad. With noice cancelation on still not usable. Ok, for persons who love robot voices its ok.
Hi Peter, I remember you did a tutorial a while ago about the cool landing effect in your office where a bit of smoke comes up. Which video did you break down this editing technique on? I can't find it
Great review Peter, I concur with you and totally agree on the dead cat on mic storage, that's a pain!
I own the DJI mic 1 and now the DJI mic 2 which arrived yesterday. I must admit listening to you inside the car and your dad when he was in range, I personally preferred the Rode sound more. I think it was warmer.
I tested my DJI mic 2 yesterday with Bluetooth direct to my iPhone 15 pro Max (recording with the black magic app) without the receiver and then with the receiver. I noticed the sound quality via wireless over Bluetooth was not as good as connected to the reciever. I would love you to do something on a video about this and hear your thoughts in case I am missing something/doing it wrong.
The noise canceling is very impressive on the mic 2.
Cheers Chris
Wow! So Bluetooth was better than connecting to the receiver?
Hi, just to be clear, bluetooth on iphone was better than with the receiver ?
@@Intelblaze No sorry I have changed what I had typed. It wasn't as good via. bluetooth as it was with the receiver directly connected to the iPhone. I use the receiver all the time when recording. I have noticed a few issues with the usbc connector on my device. It is very easy to slightly move the USBc mount when pushing it into the phone and not notice this has happened. I now keep my eye on the screen to show the icon that appears to signify it connected. Its the one with the square within the square near the top left.

I love how your dad enjoys supporting your journey! I do the same with my old man
ordered with your link, thank you Peter! Glad I held out on buying to help you!
This is the most thorough review I have ever seen. WOW. You definitely did the most in the best of ways.
I will be purchasing from your link as soon as I make top my mind and watch this again.
I haven't even finished watching but I felt like chiming in by saying it's fun and charming when your father makes an appearance. The driving intro totally worked to demonstrate some differences, well done. Love your stuff
I think DJIM2 noise cancelling system is impressive. It doesn't have skipping sound in Peter's voice like Rode WP has when he blows the blower to his face. Even when the noise cancellation is turned off, the recorded sound is still more usable than Rode WP. But I agree, in a more controlled environment, the Rode WP sounds fuller and better. So back to what we're going to make with this kind of mics, with ease of use, great UI, transferring files easiness, DJIM2 is more practical. We can just EQ the sound to make it sounds like Rode WP.
Agreed. I guess the severity of the environmental noise, is indicative of the noise cancelling results.
That last line 💪🏽 says it all.
As long as the signal is clear on the DJI Mic 2 it won’t take much to beef up the audio.
If I were to buy one of the two today, it would probably be the DJI Mic 2, although its sound isn't as good as the Rode mic, the ease of simply plugging in a cable and being able to pick up the audio from the microphone, without needing separate software is a very good feature
I am gonna buy the dji mic 2 myself, and return the wirless go ii i have, but the wireless go ii also shows up like a usb drive without any additional software, so that's not a win for the dji.
A fairly recent Rode firmware update makes it possible to download the audio from a file management app like finder or a windows alternative.
Huge respect for your dad ❤ and the way you testified both mic is seriously amazing..
The rode had the better audio for sure, but for content creators looking for easy to use features such as Bluetooth connectivity and simply getting your files from the transmitter on to the computer without having to use a dedicated software, the DJI Mic 2 feels like the way to go. Also, loved the leaf blower segment, great essential testing tool. 👌🏾
Amazing review man. In my opinion, the best reality would be to have the DJI to sound like the Rode STRAIGHT OUT OF THE MIC. Everyting else the DJI wins. Honestly I think the noise cancellation is far from good. I prefer deal with post production where I will have full control over DeNoise and PE so it's not a selling point for me. But at the end of the day DJI is still the best. About the sound being better on Rode, I guess with some good presets I can achieve the same results, having the best tech that DJI offers.
As a moto vlogger, the wireless connection to the Action 4 without the need for the receiver is a great upgrade on the Mic 1 🤙
How is this not the industry standard yet? Its so annoying using adapters, or the Media Mod case and cables everywhere.
Can you use 2 MICs with the Action 4, or only 1 without the receiver?
@@shootthechit You can only connect 1 mic wirelessly to the Action 4. To connect both you still need the receiver unfortunately. But at least you can connect 1 mic wirelessly to any bluetooth device, such as your phone.
Yea thats still really cool that you can connect 1 mic at least. Gives you incentive to buy into the DJI ecosystem

I've fallen short or motivation lately for being creative with my crafts and I love your inspiration as always Peter! Thank you
Dude, your dad is awesome. I wish I’d had a good dad when I was young. Cherish every moment you have with each other. It appears you are and that is just great. Oh, and this review is perfect. The Rode does sound fuller than the DJI. Is that something that could be adjusted in settings?
Your dad is a legend!! Great comparison, mate!
Great review!!! Does the NEW DJI Mic 2 split the audio files after 30 minutes of recording time?
I would love to watch a nature documentary with your pops doing the voice over!
That would be cool lol
Thanks for the review!
Last year I had a 3 week, one man band documentary shoot where I tried to use my Rode wireless GoII that I bought under a year ago. Just days before production I found out the batteries had died! tried contacting Rode support for a replacement but they were reluctant to; they wanted me to go through a lengthy firmware update process, which didn’t do anything in the end, just took a lot of time off of pre production, and plus my warrantee expired. so tossed my rode in the can and I quickly bought the DJI Mic 1 as a replacement. (This was just a month before the release of Rode wireless pro) DJI M1 was great. Touch screen, magnet mount, charging box, file transfer etc. So I know a bit of the DJI system ease of use, versatility and reliability. The mic2 now has 32 bit float! Just that one missing feature I wanted! The wheel looks slick to have too. I would seldomly use noise cancellation, but it’s good to have.
From your video I can really hear that the rode sounds much richer with the voice and I would prefer it. I only use these mics when I don’t have a proper Sound recordist and going run and gun. So I might not mind the lower quality. Just need a reliable system so that I don’t have to worry about audio and concentrate on the visuals. I have a bad impression of rode after the support of the older mics as well.
Btw, for the DJI mic2, How fixable is the audio in post? Can you enrich the sound in post a bit?
Might get a pair for the next project! Alway good to have a bunch of these, so I can mic more people up.
Thanks again!
Had the same issues with the inbuilt battery. Can totally understand your decision
Great review!!
Thanks for this movie!! You helped me to choose new mic. What camera and camera mount did you use to make this movie?
Your dad needs his own show man 😄❤️
Great comparison. Living in a similar environment as you here in Canada it would be interesting to see how the function in the cold weather.
Great test! Sound quality speaks in favor of the Rode. Convenience and bluetooth function - DJI, hands down. Sound quality can be managed in post. For my applications, the DJI’s bluetooth functions are of greater significance than the Rode’s quality. With that, I just ordered the DJI Mic 2 today. 😊
Brother your review and comparison is amazing and it's important that I say that your father is so cool. His good attitude and commentary while testing the mic was perfect, he's also got an epic voice.
Thanks for all you do brother!
Great comparison Peter. Nice son/father project 🙂
I agree with you about the sound of the Rode... wish Rode could fix some of the other elements.... but as for the DJI noise cancellation.... it sounds too digital for me and I would not use it, except if I would have to film in the middle of an hurricane...
Cheers from LA.
Wow, I have much to consider and think about!
Your dad has a very good job, the support is real.
Hi Peter, I remember you did a tutorial a while ago about the cool landing effect in your office where a bit of smoke comes up. Which video did you break down this editing technique on? I can't find it
Awesome comparison 👏 I currently have the Rode II but will buy the DJI Mic 2 next time based on this review.
I just bought the DJI Mic’s, however it looks like the RODE has better sounding quality, Not sure If I’m going to keep the DJI since I want the best quality possible
Cool video Peter, thank you. Curious, what do you use as a camera mount inside the car. Im assuming you may be using the zv-e1. Still love my Rode Wireless Pro but the DJI Mic 2 will be my go-to mic now. Can't wait to use it with my Pocket 3.
3:01 why is dji mic's 14h internal recording better than the 40h on rode?
I had this thought. Is it possible that DJIs deadcat is blocking more sound then Rode deadcat, so DJI mic doesn’t sound as clear?
Great test of the microphones. Very comprehensive test. Don't know which one to switch to yet. But today has the rod big mic. Just wondering one thing you got to keep the front arch on the car. But what say bilprovningen about those orange lights?
I’m allowed to have the lights, but I can’t have them turned on while driving on open roads 🤷🏻
always love your Dads involvement its great! I really like the sound of the Rode better.....I wish the DJI sounded as good and it would be a no brainer. When buying a mic, 1st priority is sound in my opinion. But I love the size of the DJI system. Luckily I am not paying to upgrade from the version 1 LOL I don't have to make those choices now.....however being the fellow gear-head I am....Very much enjoyed the video as always.
Lovely reviewPeter. I am about ordering one of these 2 systems. In my opinion DJI has great versatility but the sound of the Rode is way better... hard to choice!
Would LOVE a tutorial on how you made the text effect to show "180 Meters." Awesome video, easy subscribe
I spoke to DJI's internal chat support 2 days ago asking if the Mic 2 would ever be available as I was unable to buy the creator combo in the uk when it released. I was told "I'm really sorry but the Mic 2 is not and will not be available unless you get the creator combo. It will never be available to purchase seperately" 😕😣
Does this work with gopro, I'm having trouble finding a mic for my GoPro. I do have the media mod. Any recommendations?
Hej Peter!
Does the DJI noise cancelation work when you are using a lav?
Interesting results, would love to see a side by side comparison of the new DJI Lavalier Mic with the dji mic 2 vs the Rode Lavaliers that come with the Wireless Pro and maybe even combine the Rode standard laveliers with the Dji mic 2 just to see what the difference between that would be! 🤔
I 100% agree
I have a bunch of lavs... everything from low end to Countryman, Tram, Sanken, and DPA. The Rode in combo with the lavalier II really surprised me in a good way. No experience with the new DJI yet.
great video!
a few questions. 1. Can 32-bit sound be recorded into the camera? via a transmitter. when using Rode? When using DJi mic v2? 2. If I use the same lavalier microphone, will the Rode have an audio advantage? 3. Does noise canceling work with the lavalier microphone? ps. Don't forget that the Rode comes with two lavalier microphones and that's cool. Thanks for answers!
I'm happy when I saw your dad enjoying playing with your new toys
Tnq
Thank you for the great review Peter! I also much prefer the sound coming from the Rode as it sounds fuller and with bass. But then I'm wondering if the DJI mic 2 could be EQ to sound fuller in post to salvage it? Otherwise the sound quality is quite a bummer considering how good everything else is for the dji mic 2. The dji mic 2 just sounds too boxed in and lacks bass, feels very weird and artificial.
Your dad checking the mics was the cutest thing ever!
this is the best test I found. I will go for the DJI, because like you said everything except the sound, which is not bad, with a little EQ, you can basically make it sound easily like the Rode. Thanks for the test
for me it's the Rode. Also their history of adding features and maintaining firmware is very solid. Just got my Wireless GO II updated to 2.5.0 on April 18th. I am sticking with them after many good experiences.
How do you have the camera mounted? I don’t see any vibration
Thanks Peter! The ONLY reason I'm hesitant to get the DJI is because the Rode is just so obviously better in sound quality, specifically by retaining the low end. Have you experimented at all with applying a low-end boost within FCP to the DJI audio files to see if that helps with the overall fullness of sound?
I use the Mic 2 regularly and you can do a lot with the editing in post
@@thebetterbuy that's great to hear, thank you for letting me know!
How long they last on one charge? Without using case
the wirless go ii from rode show up like usb drives when you plug them in, why did they change that? :o
Noice cancelling is god damn impressive..nice video broski.
I hope this time is better than the first one and maybe I can replace my zoom lavalier mic…
Information is good ❤
I'm loving all these reviews, especially from someone in the UK as the DJI launched last week (Jan 17th 2024). Great job with this one, thank you. You've just confused my opinion between the RODE and the DJI and I'm still not sure which one to buy 🤣🤣🤣
Noise cancellation: definitely useful in YOUR review, maybe not so much in others'. NC can be hit and miss with mics and I think you've nailed it here. Some videos I watched already on the DJI Mic 2 demonstrate a notable loss in audio quality, however, your review does not seem to show that and the quality remains.
I do like the form format of the RODE over the DJI but still not sure whether I like the clear housing on the DJI - I'm never a fan of seeing the working components of a product, but that's just a personal opinion for me, others may like that.
The range tests on any of these MICs are pointless IMO. How many people using these products would actually record audio THAT far from their video? Really?
Another interesting point raised in a different video: DO YOU NEED 32-BIT FLOAT? NO! If you don't know what your doing with sound or you are giving it to someone who does, this is one of the features a lot of people will be like "I need this!"... but do they actually need it?
In summary from what I've found, and you highlight this at the end of your review, the RODE sound is slightly richer & fuller over the DJI so I guess if you are someone using the mic primarily indoors for reviews or general influencing videos, this may be the one for you. If however you are wanting a mic to use outside, the NC of the DJI might better suit you, especially if you are likely using it in an environment with a lot of background sound such as traffic or wind.
Price-wise, I've just looked up pricing and it seems since the launch of the DJI Mic 2 last week, RODE have dropped their price considerable for the Pro from £399 to £315 (Amazon) to sit more in line with the DJI Mic 2 £309 (Amazon), making the choice even harder.
Peter your dad is a legend. Treasure him ❤.
Your dad's voice is great for documentary.
In my opinion, the DJI MIC 2 kicks the RODE WIRELESS PRO's butt. Although I have to say that the only thing that I still find superior about the RODE WIRELESS PRO is the strength of the sound and the sound that feels more bodied. This difference has been very noticeable when you are in the study commenting on your final conclusions. The DJI microphone seems like you are twice as far away, I can't explain it better. I have a question about how it could be mounted on an insta360. I have a 1 inch insta360 one rs and the website sells a stand to attach the RODE WIRELESS PRO microphone, but I don't know if DJI has stands made for that 360 camera. By the way, your dad seems like a fantastic person! I laughed non-stop at the leaf blower test lol Great video as always Peter!
Peter where can i get background music for making videos
I prefer the rode audio. Didn't like the noise cancelling.
By the way, the text and graphs on the video, are from Motion array or something like that?
Great video. Always fun to watch
Text and graphic is from MotionVFX and the plugin mChannel Cyber! Link in the description (best plugin)
@@PeterLindgren1 not available for Premiere?
I got a cheap wireless lav with a lumix g7 camera and when I mount the receiver to the horse shot mount I get this interference coming through the recording . Would u happen to know if its due to the camera or the cheap wireless lav
I agree that the Rode sounds significantly better. Ultimately, that’s what it comes down to for me. I appreciate the video. Very informative!
the auto gain is most important feature.. the noice cancellation on DJI is interesting but Rode seems a better sound in this example.
I agree with you from the beginning; the Rode sounds better, more “full” if you will..
Noticed it right away..
The noise cancelation on the DJI I don’t like, it makes it sound….. strange….. fake….. stripped….? Can’t really describe it..
“Compressed” would be a good word here! I agree.
Hey Peter, just wanted to drop by and thank you for the DJI MIC 2 vs RODE WIRELESS PRO showdown! 🎤 Your video helped me decide, and I'm proudly rocking the DJI - got it as a bonus with my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 combo! 📸💰 Can't wait for the day I'm as famous as you and can test the RODE like a true mic maestro! 🌟🎙
Your father is awesome. I like his voice. 🎉
And what about the lavalier microphones? I like that it can be locked in the rode's transmitters, I think than that and the best sound quality could be the deal breaker. DJI of course have a better interface and range, but I don't change settings often, nor do I record subjects too far from the camera (and the local recording can help with that anyway). I just can't decide on one, I do like dji for outdoor filming but prefer rodes for a control environment and also for their integration with other rode products, like their rodecaster
We’ve only used the DJI dual wireless for our channel, which is mainly out and about.
It’s been a bit difficult to get a good sound without clipping; it seems very sensitive. Maybe we’ll try the Rode
Your Dad cracked me up. Great Tester!
For pro users... DJI. Better interface and it's easier to use on run'n'gun scenarios. As a pro, you'll never use a built-in mic, it's so amateur to not use lav while filming. With 32bit float, you can do everything in post to make it sound amazing. The only downside is the lack of a timecode but I can live with it :) To sum up, Rode is for vloging and casual usage, and DJI is for pro work.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the DJI transmitters lack locking 3.5mm connectors? This would make it a deal breaker for pros. Yesterday I used the Rode system with my Sanken Cos11d lav mic because it has locking connectors (on a high-budget shoot). My advice for pros would be to get the Rode system, sell the stock lavs it comes with and use your professional lav mics with it.
@@keller2279 correct, but there are pros and cons. I can’t imagine I don’t have control over the sound. With DJI it’s easier to control gain because of touch interface and wheel and I don’t have to connect receiver to pc/phone to change settings. I know Rode has „smart sound/gain” system that make sure audio is always good but… can you really rely on it same as on Autofocus? On the other side Rode has locking connectors and timecode. I’ve always place my lav recorders on chest/belly belt/strap under clothing. Lav never disconnected.
@@mstudiofilmowe You make good points about the benefits of the DJI system, but for pros who want the best sounding audio, you simply have to be able to plug in your professional lav mics. I'm not sure I could plug Sanken mics into the DJI transmitters, but please let me know if I'm mistaken.
Rode sound capture is considerably better. Pro work and casual work aside, this is a mic system. The sound is embarrassing compared to Rode straight out of the mic.
@@L0NGRNGE no the lav definitely doesn’t sound nearly as good. I returned it. It’s 1000 times better in form factor and usage, but the most important part of a microphone is the sound quality in my opinion and it’s not even close to the rode wireless pro.
Your review is the most thorough and fun I've ever seen. You're also adorable. Thank you for this! DJI for sure (which makes so much sense) would be better for on site, excursions, nature docs, etc. The rode pro works best for my project because it's in studio, not much range is required. At the end of the day, if you're looking for the best audio quality, you can't sacrifice that for the ease of an accessible menu/interface.
It’s crazy how many reviewers, don’t mention about timecode capabilities, it’s a big plus for the Rode
There’s rubber on the top of the case to keep mics stay in place while charging.
Hi, is it safe to rename the “NO NAME” to my liking when the dji mic 2 is connected to my computer? I’m afraid it might affect the tx or rx when I’m updating the firmware. Sorry if it’s a stupid question but I just want to play safe, please advise. Thank you!
Shouldnt be an issue as far as I know!
Why didn't you use low pass on the Rode pro mic
Thank you
I would have thought the auto gain assist in the rode is a point for rode
the charts dji mic 2 and rode wireless are a bit biased, hey? How come 40hrs is less than 14?
Personally I think the NC feature of DJI is way too aggressive and makes it sound too processed. I'd prefer to do noise removal in post tbh, more control and the ability to shape it as I want instead of what DJI wants. :) Also I think the capsule in the rode sounds better, the DJI is a bit too thin.
Great video as always! Too bad you're not in the middle of sweden. :D
your father is a legend and a superstar at the same time. make more videos with him. 🖖
Whoa, I’m first this time! Cooool!
3:00 wait, how does DJI get the point here for internal recording?
Your bars are wrong. If Rode has more then double the internal recording time, why is the bar for DJI higher? Confused
What is the story behind the hat you are wearing? I am sure it has some kind of significant meaning but I just stumbled upon your videos and really liked the hat. Was wondering if it was from a foundation of sorts.
Hands down, DJI mic 2. Fixing to order it. 🎉🎉🎉
I knew DJI mic 2 was coming but didnt thought so soon , week ago bought Hollyland Lark Max , really nice microphone but i still dont know that 32 bit is really that important i always set proper gain. glad Hollyland doesnt have a reflective surface , carry pouch bag is better i feel interms of protection
Rode Pro sounds grate! But DJI mic 2 - wins for fast use.
Both of them has timecode?
I'm not sure if this was addressed in the video, but it seems that the DJI system doesn't have locking 3.5mm connectors on the transmitters. This isn't a big deal for most of the types of people buying it, but is a complete deal breaker for professionals who want to use their pro lav mics with it. I bought the Rode system, sold the stock lavs it comes with, and use my Sanken Cos 11d lav mics with it. Works beautifully and sounds much better than stock lavs.
DJI hands down my fav! Yeah the Rode has slightly better sound but the DJI has much better useability and you can eq the DJI in post in like 5 seconds. Also if you were really looking for super high quality sound you wouldn't be using either of them lol
You can transfer sound files from the rode wireless pro when you connect it to a MacBook. I transfer sound files from my rode wireless pro all the time without rode central app. I can’t delete the files from the receiver or change the settings on the receivers without rode central app though to delete files it has to be done in app. Plus you get 40 hr 32 bit float internal recording per receiver on the rode I’ll be sticking to rode for now no need to upgrade. Thanks for the video.
Yes, apparently it needs to be in the case!
Why no testing lavalier that comes with rodey
DJI Bluetooth working with Macbook Pro is insanely unstable and in my case just impossible to use. It worked a few days ago and now can't even do voice-over. also failed me during the meeting, and nothing fixes it.
Your Dad is King. I rather the DJI because of its features. Will definitely be upgrading from the DJI Mic 1 . Great Video and for a minute there I thought you was going to say that the cops noticed who you were lol
Cannot believe DJI beat in all ways the big name mic, but considering DJI other products, I believe DJI can make better product because better technology. Also very fair and solid video, noise cancelling of DJI is good and necessary for mic I guess.
My wireless go, i hate the interface and button pushing. I accidentally muted the audio while filming a wedding and that messed up their private vows.
do more of this short story while driving
Design matters … DJI will easily appeal more to the mass market through ease of use in my opinion! Like others I prefer the sound of the Rode, but buy DJI now. Thanks for the vid! 🙏
Somehow I have problems understanding the Rode...
