I have great pain when attacking Mic 1 transmitter to the cold shoe. Glad they finally solved it!
Pretty stoked about 32bit float! Ordered mine yesterday.
Does mic on have this?
What an awesomely thorough review! Love all the close up shots and the ASMR of the clicks and such 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Glad you enjoyed!
Great timing for this video as i was lookong for new mics
well done, great walk through and close ups
Thanks for clarifying 32 bit is only in the transmitter at the start of the vid! Giving us the info we need right away.
Welcome
Excellent video, thanks for this very thorough review
Great video bro! Gonna try them out
Cheers Fella!
99.9K subs!! Literally on the cusp of that 100K Nice one Chris!
Let’s gooooooooo
Done!
Good comprehensive look at the DJI system. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the in-depth comparison. So helpful. Made my decision easier.
Thank for this review brother I recently bought the Dji mic 1 . Now I should have taught for the update
Great video, thanks a lot!!
Chris of helpful hiss! Thanks for your thorough comments on this new DJI Mic 2. To me, taking each point together makes a much more compelling whole, and your points are many.
And liked the video ending - *clack!* Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice work, been waiting for this release! How are these with lav mics plugged in... any interference or noise?
Great review
Thanks!
Thanks for this video. I recently (week ago) bought DJI MIC 1 with 2 transmiters and I was a bit upset that new set just appeared but after seeing yout video I don't see that I am missing anything important for me so I will stay happily with my DJI MIC1. Especially thank you for the comparison tests at the end!
Glad I could help!
I bought dji Mic 1 couple days ago, can just return it.
@@WeatherGuruOSRSright? I’m thinking about it. Just a 100 dollar price difference for a jump in quality and features
@@WeatherGuruOSRS I know but one thing is that dji mic 2 is more expensive and second I don't see so much difference
Hey Chris, I liked how you mentioned the locking/screw function of Rode, for that actually I found out that DJI has a "clip" or wire-holding mechanism in the transmitter's collar clip (I don't remember what you call the clip for shirts and stuff). So you can just slide the Lav/mic in there and that kinda helps keep the wire in place.
Chris, I also have the Sony fx3, but I have the DJI Mic version 1. Are the settings for the fx3 0 on the transmitters, 1 on the camera recording volume, and 9 on the receiver gain like the Sony a7siii?
Please let me know mate 🤙🏽
Nice review, thanks :) been waiting for the release for weeks now.
I have a question, if you dont mind - when you pair the transmitter via Bluetooth (with dji pocket 3 or some other device), and then try to pair back with the original receiver manually (by pressing the linking button) - does it remember the receiver or you have to manually link it via menu again?
I want to use the same two mics with a camera and dji osmo 3 as well, and quickly switch between the two. Not sure if this is possible.
Thanks :)
thxxx for this!
I almost always use V1 with the dead cat on the mic pack and with the pack under their shirt and the magnet being the only thing people see. The LED are then against the persons skin or shirt.
The new one will then potentially shine through the shirt since it shines out to the side.
The pouch being way bigger is also a little bummer, but it may allow to keep your lav mics in with it.
Bigger screen is great though
The hotshoe clamp design I used to grip onto a cable sometimes a few inches away from the camera to extend the range.
The old one locked in place, the new one doesn't lock?
Honestly they may have improved it, but they also made it less functional IMHO.
I like the auto on function, but not auto off I hate putting a lav on talent and then having them go to sleep before talent is actually ready to go.
I like the Bluetooth to phone! Thats super cool!
Hi Chris, on the Mic 2 there is a little slot under the clip you can pass the Lav cable through. So it can't pull out.
Pro tip. Don't allow any natural light in when filming videos like i did in this one, exposure is a mess haha.
My own thin opinion: the natural light makes some beautiful effects! Wow, actually!
Just used your BHphoto affiliate link and ordered a set!
Excited for 32bit float.
Just gotta soften it a little I think, but its kind of refreshing to see natural light
I honestly love it. It's actually different and works.
@@Glen.Danielsenagreed
Great video! Is it possible or even useful to connect a shotgun mic to the DJI system?
On the 2 the LAV has the 90 degree plug and the transmitters have a slot / groove under the back clip to hold the wire to help keep it from being accidentally unplugged.
great video
nice explanation
from your audio test , i actually prefer the older ones , has a bit more bass/deep sounding.
Each to their own!
@@chrisbrockhurst It's rather convenient to hide behind the veil of 'each to their own' when faced with a comment that actually has some technical merit, isn't it? The original statement about preferring the older audio equipment due to its richer bass and deeper sound is rooted in an appreciation of audio quality, not mere subjectivity. Dismissing this with a casual, almost flippant remark, reflects a lack of understanding or, worse, a refusal to engage in a meaningful discussion about sound quality. It's easy to play it safe with non-committal phrases, but it takes a bit more courage and knowledge to truly dive into the nuances of what makes one sound system objectively better than another. So, before you trot out another cliché, maybe consider listening a bit more closely, both to the audio and to the people who actually know what they're talking about.
I sadly agree: love all the new features but the internal mic on the transmitters does sound better on the old ones. Weird. Why would DJI do that?
Essential upgrades for version 2 👌
Yep
Glad I bought the individual transmitter to go with my Pocket 3 this morning, out of stock now
Wow. People obv going mad for it
@@chrisbrockhurst probably like me, I had original DJI mics so I mistakenly didn’t get creator combo, all those bought one I would think
Do you know if they fixed the issue with the recordings on the transmitters skipping a few seconds after recording for more than a few minutes at a time? I’ve been hosed by the gen 1 version whenever trying to use the backup recordings that are saved on the transmitter. DJI didn’t know what was causing this and they even replaced it, but still the same issue with the replacement.
do you have to keep taking the top shoe bit on and off in order to charge it? or can u just leave it on there and just need to charge the transmitters?
Thanks for the info. Some nice upgrades. Feel like some software changes could in theory work on v1 with a firmware update but overall I think v2 is very good step forward. I'd love to be able to dock & charge my transmitters without taking the deads cats off in future iterations, I've lost a few cats so now I leave them on and hold the lid semi closed with some elastic bands lol. Other than that I think the dji mics are my fav wireless mics from the ones I've tried.
The auto on and off is a very welcome update!
Yep
For iPhone, will there be a phone upgrade to allow using the native Camera app instead of a third-party? Or, is that the limitation of how Apple iOS works?
Have you treid them on a room full of people and about 30 metters from the receiver? Does the audio drops like crazy like the old dji mic
I bought the DJI pocket 3 without the combo when it came out and I’m glad I waited for the stand alone Mic 2. It has extra features that the one that came in the combo didn’t have. I think that it’s the perfect companion for the pocket 3 cause now two people can have a mic and it’s more discreet while filming in public. Where I live people will kick you out of a place if you have a camera.
Same!
Hi, I would like to use the DJI Mic 2 for motovlogging, but I have a question. Do I just pair the transmitter (mic) with my Insta360 X4, and that's it, or do I also need to connect the DJI receiver to the X4? I read that you get worse audio quality without the receiver. Also, with the transmitter inside the helmet, would it be better to connect a lavalier mic to it? Thanks
thank you very much for this !!
finally stepping into buying a mic 😂
Glad I could help!
I don't think you mentioned this but using the lightning connector you can now record in stereo / split track. For some unknown reason the original could not.
Is the hot shoe still loose when using the receiver on a cage?
This is really helpful to see you go through so much BUT i had a big isssue with the dji mic 1 that wasnt quite touched on in this video... I remember the iphone and android adapter had this issue where if i pressed it in TOO far, then it wouldn't pick up audio. Sometimes fumbling around with the receiver, it adapter would get pushed and not intake audio, curious to see if that is case now
Interesting. Have never heard of this one before, sounds like faulty hardware. I have two of the mic 1 and neither have that issue
Thank you for this video. I want to buy a microphone. If I can't afford Dji 2, which one would you recommend between Rode go2 and Dji 1? Is the DGI 1 worth buying?
FYI: for the 3.5mm locking there is an extra channel runner underneath the rear clip (Right toward the hinge) that a lepel mic cable is supposed to run through to keep it from being pulled out. It seems they did that for faster attachment maybe? I'm not sure, but it's an alternative to the locking screw function of Rode. I don't see why they couldn't have added both on there, but at least it's something.
Only found this out today. Seems like an easy work around, will have to test this in the real world
which one is better for live streaming... this new mic 2 from DJI or SHURE MV51?
Great review. Bummer that they didn't add a locking trs jack. That was one of the main complaints people had about version 1 and that gives the Rode Wireless Pro a really big advantage. I have the Wireless Pro and while this update is nice, I am still glad I chose the Rode Wireless Pro, it seems like the superior system.
There is a holder for the mic cable inside the clip
Where do place the receiver if you are using the 3.5 cable?
Does it work with action 4 without the need for the receiver?
Hey does it have the CANON M50 (not mark ii) in the camera settings?
Does the receiver have the settings for GoPros?
Thanks for doing this! Hard to decide i should upgrade or not... now I feel like i shouldn't upgrade yet😅
did you compare connection types? do bluetooth connection has lags? professional audio do not choose bluetooth connection because of more latency and more interference.
If I choose the sony preset for audio levels on the mic 2, what gain levels do I put on the camera?
Great question! I’m also interested in Chris’ answer. 👍🏻
love the upgrade but sad that the cold shoe still doesn't fit well into camera cages. also would have loved a locking jack and data transfer through the case like the rodes do
Really nice review
As an audio engineer i think version 1 sounds a bit better specially in the high end.
How does the DJI Mic 2 compare to the Rode Wireless Pro? I was about to order the Rode Wireless Pro, but am unsure of which to get now after the release of the DJI Mic 2. I shoot mainly weddings and vlogs. Thanks!
Would you recommend this mic over a rode wireless ii?
2 questions, Why did you buy a second DJI system? and secondly, if I buy a secondary DJI system can I use them simultaneously?
Which system would you recommend for 4 mics? Love these, but usually 4 of us golfing in our videos, so any thoughts/suggestions? I'll get these for general production but curious your thoughts for a 4 wireless mic system that matchess this ease and convenience, ideally
I tested this scenario with the V1 and it all works well recording locally to the transmitters built in backup but as soon as you need it directly into the camera they all fight each other for frequency bandwidth as they all operate on the 2.4Ghz frequency. So you'll have issues even with two sets of DJI Mics. Same with 1 DJI set and 1 Rode set. The best alternate solution for true wireless if you need it, would be 1 set of DJI Mics and something else on a different frequency like the Sennheisser AVX (Pro level gear and thus operates on the less crowded 5Ghz frequency) but is alot more expensive.
I just bought the single mic and receiver version for $219. Hoping I didn't make a mistake by not going for the full $349 combo, but I figured I can just charge everything up via USB-C, and didn't necessarily absolutely need the case or second mic. Thanks for the great review as always!
I bought the DJI mic one with 2 receivers for £219.. after watching the review I think £349 is expensive unless you need all the features and you use it professionally to make money. the best part was in this video the audio quality is not much different . yes it has 32 bit float but that is a very niche thing and for pro work mostly. love my dii mic 1
@@haroonvlogs5437Agreed 👍🏼
@@haroonvlogs5437Plus he mentioned where the lights are on the DJI mic, but the newer firmware allows you to dim it, or shut it off while recording or not. This dude is really cool, but he gets sponsored and paid to do some of these products that he gets to try for free, so hes always gonna make it seem like the "newest" thing is the best. Unless you're doing paid professional work, theres no need for the Mic 2. And if you were doing professional work i wouldnt even reccomend this, id reccomend the Rode Wireless Pro
@@JesusChristSaves. 100% . Most of this CZcams business is about sales and views. It’s good to watch CZcams but always remember “we are their product” it’s always “new” “shiny next thing” “the best ever” etc etc .
@@JesusChristSaves. I do paid professional work and I’m very impressed so far with this mic. From a pure sound perspective the Rode is better, but with a simple EQ the DJI can also sound great. The other convenience features are really helpful. I love that I can “lock” the transmitter once it’s recording so it can’t be accidentally turned off by a groom or officiant (I’ve had that happen before).
lol it was weird to my ears when u switched to the mics. Is there a way to make the base more on these mics? Or make it sound deeper
Does anyone know if I can just buy the Mic 2 transmitter if I have DJI mic 1 receiver and transmitter?
can you keep one paired to your pocket 3 and one paired to your receiver at the same time, so you can keep them both charged and use whichever one you need at the time? Will the Osmo pocket three receiver fit and/or charge in the charging case
I believe the answer to your first question is yes
Did they add locking screws for the transmitters?
Negative
No reason to spend my money upgrading. Im very happy with the version 1 Thanks
I actually love the DJI Mics (I have 2 sets as well even though both of them have had the internal recording glitch), but for weddings these seem worse in most ways. The design of the transmitter is odd and for the really rare times you have to have it showing, I just wouldn't use it. The magnet design is a bit loud now so putting the magnet on the outside is not an option without tape or something to cover the logos. 32 bit is great but no locking screws is a big shame. The v1s rarely peak for me so I don't think it's a good upgrade, but it seems they're targeting content creators more than pros here. Maybe a Mic 2 pro with the locking connector?
All valid points, I never really had issues with mine for weddings either so if it’s not broke don’t fix it I guess! 32bit float is just nice for that just in case scenario and redundancy is always a good thing.
@@chrisbrockhurst Yeah agreed, the 32 bit float is a very nice quality of life improvement, makes audio 1 less thing to worry about!
Yes the locking mic jack is better, But the DJI has a mic cord grip and channel under the Clip just for securing the mic cord.
300th like . Good video . Hi from Scotland
Apparently a firmware update allows the status LEDs to be disabled on the V1. Is that correct?
can you put the MIC 1 onto insta360 flow gimbal without it being attached to phone
Can you pair via Bluetooth to a Gopro Hero 12 Black?
subbed!
Sorry, no at 17:53 that is *not* the capsule, that is just the screen cover. It's quite possible they are using the same capsule in the mic 1 and mic 2. In fact, the published specs don't specify the capsule diameter, but the specs they *do* publish show only minor differences in the sound input; it's possible they could be using the same capsule with different processing.
Nice from DJI and pretty nice though. But do you also know that you can dim the light on the mic 1 in the settings so it doesn't have to be that bright? Well, am enjoying my Mic 1 STILL. Also I like the bag for the Mic 1 MUCH MORE than Mic 2. Space is all that's important. But the Mic 2 isn't bad though .
Does the audio output of the transmitter have power protection + 48v phantom power? When I applied power to the first version of dji Mic phantom, the receiver board burned out. Nobody is discussing this, and this is an important problem!
Thanks for the video, LxWxH if it hasn't already been answered.
Just bought the first version, haven’t even unboxed it yet but want to use them in the next couple days what do I do? Keep them or return and wait for these? 😬
I’m on the same boat. I have it in hand rn was about to take the wrapper off. But had to come back for one more video to see if I’m convinced to upgrade.
Big question for both of you is if you need 32bit float and noise cancellation. Otherwise keep what you have
@@chrisbrockhurstdoes the 32 bit and noise cancellation make a big difference in your opinion?
You can export at 32 bit after editing
Thank you for the video Chris. One question, does the internal recording still record only on -20db?
I don't understand something. From what has been said it appears as if one can choose 32 bit over 24 bit. Where is the switch for that or how to do?
Then what sort of audio goes into the camera if the receiver is connected to it by a jack cable? 24 bit or could be even 16 bit if the preamp of the camera is old? What matters is the final audio recorded with the video file.
You just turn 32bit on or off. That’s the only option
I have the DJI V1 and is contemplating the upgrade to V2 specifically because I have the Pocket 3, which enables bluetooth X 2 on V2 only. However, during your comparison test, I actually feel the V1 sounds better (V2 sounds slightly higher pitched). Or is it just me? Anyone else? Cheers.
Can I use the dji mic 2 transmitter with the dji mic 1 reciever?
Nope
So close, only 300 more to go!
As an Osmo Pocket 3 owner, I feel a little screwed that DJI doesn't sell the Mic 2 as a single mic kit with the charging case. If you buy the single mic bundle, they give you a stupid little pouch and charging cable. Also, I wonder how many of the Mic 2's can connect to the Osmo Pocket 3 internally via bluetooth. Great video and I'm definitely getting the 2 mic set and I guess I'll have 3 mics all together. Weird and unthoughtful by DJI, but it is what it its I guess...
The standalone charging case is being released at the end of January and it includes the larger carrying case.
So a solution to those of us that purchased the single TX/RX kit.
@@rodc271 Right, I priced it out and it's actually a better value to buy the complete 2 mic bundle.
@@DiscoverSRQ True, I already had a single TX from the OSMO Pocket 3 Creator bundle which is why I went the single TX/RX route.
Did the video revert back to LOG at 1:31
Good catch. This is what happens when you shoot a video the day before a launch and hit export as the embargo is lifted haha
@@chrisbrockhurst don’t fret, the video is well done
The Logo on the magnet is such a huge dissapointment for those of us who don't want Branding in our content. And here comes the Sharpie.
Hello are you selling the DJI mic 2? Thanks
Nope
I like the plain black and compact design of the DJI 1s better, they look so sleek ✨😂
Awesome review I’m getting v2
Is DJI Mic 2 compatible with EOS R8. Have anyone tried such setup?
does the old mic has a noise cancellation?
Negative
Idk, to me the new mics looks cheaper, id say the first version looked more premium, but thats just the visual aspect, pouch is nice tho
So is the noise canceler bad ? Sounds bad. Will you say it ?
Btw, you have a fire beginning in your back.
Why not 32bit float into the receiver though? Would make things easier.
Can I use it as a standalone voice recorder?
Yeh. Transmitters work on their own too
Only down side is cant use with 360insta x3 you can see receiver
Can I charge DJI mic 2 in v1 case ?
Negative
The Ver 1 sounds much better, the Ver 2 is much more flat, which could be a good thing if you want to edit it in post
Did they make it so you can leave the dead cat on inside the case?
Nope
I really wish that DJI can make an adapter for the hotshoes of Sony. so no more wires, just direct.
version 1, sounded better for me.
