IT'S DONE! First flight in my new cockpit

- The 4-month aircraft upgrade is done! How much did it cost, what does it do, and how does it perform on a test flight over Melbourne. See the new Garmin equipment in action on the ground and in the air. After 5 months in the hangar it's amazing to be flying EYZ again, I hope you enjoy the new cockpit as much as I know I'm going to.
Equipment installed are 2 x Garmin G500 TXi, a Garmin GI 275. This compliments the existing Garmin GTN650s that were already installed in this aircraft.

Never in my life prior to finding your channel Stef, would I have ever thought I'd miss seeing someone fly their aircraft, and derive such joy from seeing their return! The fact you speak "pilot speak" and also explain things to us laypeople in understandable terms, I feel I should almost be part paying for the fuel each flight. Truly a joy to join you on your journeys my friend.
That's such a nice comment, thank you. I'm not a natural born aviator, not from an aviation background, maybe that helps me talk about it in that way. I basically treat CZcams as me talking to my friends in the pub anyway :)
It’s amazing to see EYZ in the air again that cockpit redo was totally worth it!
Congrats Stef, The hard work that has led up to this point, oh my i cant imagine. Huge congatulations!
Thank you, I’m very humbled to be able to fly EYZ again. It’s been a long road, but it’s great to be back.
Douche bags.
EYZ is looking great! Thanks for the great reveal! great to see you back in the air!
Lovely to see the nose of my plane in one of your vids! Love your work Stef
You can’t fake the excitement you see in this video! It’s so nice to relate to how it feels to fly again after a while! Great stuff Stef!
Very slick!!! Enjoy it Stef
Great to see EYZ in the air! Love the upgrades!
Hi Stef. Great to see EYZ back and that cockpit is awesome. I bet you are pleased with the result.
So exciting! Absolutely love the upgrades, congratulations on the ambassadorship!
Yipee! Glad to see you back in the skies again.
kid with a. new toy , know the feeling all too well 😁
You're a class act, Stef!
Absolutely stunning. Congrats on the awesome upgrade 🙌
"I'm not going to make you wait." *endures 45 seconds of suspense* Dammit Stef!
Lol. Congrats dude. That cockpit is absolutely a work of art. I hope you and EYZ have may more wonderful adventures together.
Going to be soooooo worth it !
Great to see the genuine excitment you have for this build getting to this point. Looking forward to more flight videos in the next few months
Job well done Stef. New panel looks fantastic, and will make flying way easier and more enjoyable than ever. Thanks mate
Great to see you up again with the new displays! Good video!
Dash looking great 👍 well done, Stef!!! Looking forward to you next adventure in EYZ!!! Cheers
The new cockpit looks so sick! It’s been great seeing beginning to end. Thanks Stef, have a great day!
Must be a great feeling, to enjoy so much luxury! Enjoy it now (and hopefully on your not cancelled around the world trip 😀) Congrats!
Good to see you flying again Stef, always exciting to have new tech.
Congrats Stef looks awesome! Worth waiting for.
I absolutely love the new panel Stefan! It was most definitely worth the wait and I'm sure it was for you as well. You should get many years of service from it hopefully. As always thanks for sharing the great videos with us all and blessings to you and your family.
For the viewers....... Please Stef. Give us a rough cost to upgrade. Love ya vids and always keep a look out in the sky's for you.
grtz on getting back in the air.
Looks great! On a lighthearted note when my A&P hands me the bill for install I'll say: "Look I don't have the funds to pay, but on the bright-side these instruments will last me for years!"
Amazing! Thanks Stefan. I was inspired by your videos, i have my first Cessna 152 flight next week! I'm learning for PPL. Thanks Stefan
Congrats! You look so happy back in the air. I’ve taken a little break this year also, I can’t wait to get back to regular flights.
Hey Stef, the upgrade looks fantastic! It’ll be just what you need for that much delayed round the world flight!😉 You might need to look at the settings on your camera’s though, that flicker might get a bit annoying for some viewers on your longer flight vids.
EYZ back in the air! I am guessing that you left the protective film on the Garmin screens until the dash has the batman stripes done. Peeling the film off would make a good Instagram reel ..... a peel reel. And once again your video makes me miss living in Melbourne, where if you don't like the weather, you just wait 15 minutes.
Nice to see this content back again. The way you speak to ATC really helps me prepare for my career.
Looks good Stef
Heya Mate, congrats on the hard work on EYZ !!! Awesome to hear she's back in the air!
Plus, the Garmin tech looks awesome! Have fun!
Great work team and can't wait to have more EYZ content coming up! Congrats on the ambassadorship, they've got some really nice tech! Imagine if you'd gone RTW with the old panel and then got this installed. It's definitely going to help if and when that's in the pipeline again (and all trips in between!).
Awesome to see EYZ alive in her element again! :-)
I see you getting around a fair bit in this aircraft, work just up the taxi way. Looks awesome the upgrades
Congratulations! Glad to see that you are now benefitting from all the hard work that goes with running a CZcams channel! 🥳👍🏼 Having just started my own aviation channel I now appreciate that it’s not as easy as you make it look 😮
Hey stef cockpit looks amazing love the customization wonderful first flight once again in EYZ
Looks great. Hope you can sort the frame rate on the GoPro / refresh on the screens, the two refreshing at different rates was a little distracting.
Becoming a pilot needs an expensive investment, but the outcome I believe is a giant fun and experiences. Love to see such amazing people who had opportunity to fly for the airliner or just for their private plane. They deserved it! Btw Love this channel a lot ☺
Thanks Wahyudi, it's great to have you here on the channel.
Well done Stef, the new set-up looks fantastic ✈️👍
Good to see you back up in the sky.
I thought you were going to say EYZ is now fully electric :P Congrats Stef! Great job!! Hardwork pays off!!
This is something I need. Congratulations Stef, fantastic to see.
Super congrats Stefan! 😃😃 That is AWESOME 🤩🤩 Greetings from Buenos Aires 👋👋
I've missed this!
Finally, love it and I am looking forward to the upcoming flights
Yay! EYZ is in the air! I'm very happy for ya Stef :)
0:28 Oh cool, so you're giving anyone who really wants it a key to your airplane! Thanks man!
On a more serious note, I'd recommend you to check out some of DeviantOllam's videos about key duplication from photos and then remove that scene from the video.
Amazing Stef!!! Cannot wait to see more of EYZ on the Channel! Congrats mate and cheers
great to see you back in the air...
Welcome back to the skies Stef. New dash looks and functions amazing 🤩
Looks fantastic! Cheers for another great video
Brilliant!
A lovely aircraft before the upgrade, now an awesome aircraft, nice one Stef
Excellent, looking forward to seeing more of EYZ and Garmin. :)
Great Stef, love the look of the new set up!
congrats on the new panel upgrade, looks very nice.
Beautiful
Those upgrades are slick!
Congratulations, that looks great, i'm very envious!
Beautiful. That setup puts the G1000 txi suite to shame. Looking forward to getting the same setup someday. Hope you can find a different shutter speed that’s more compatible with the displays so we can enjoy them more on future flights.
Very cool setup nothing but the best. Safe travels
Dude congrats! That GI275 is sick…
Congratz!!!! She looks amazing!
Thankyou for sharing Stef. It looks absolutely amazing!
Yep. This week is definitely a lotto week 🤞
I got excited to see your excitement! Great step towards around the world!? Cheers.
Not gonna lie dude your new avionics makes the Perspective Plus G1000 in the SR22 I fly look ancient
Wearing the big boy pants now 😉😎👍👍
Hello Stef, I Wash looking forwards to see your new cockpit, it’s fantastic
You are lucky to fly again
I’m still waiting for my parachute…in France the delays are very long (8 months from now…) hope you enjoyed your stay in France, I would have loved to meet you !
It would be interesting if you and josh of aviation 101 shared your experiences both of your aircrafts have had similar life changing surgeries.
Have been waiting for this, finally I get to see more of the beautiful australia from your channel 😄
Yes! Lots of flying adventures in the remainder of 2022, but the first may not actually be in Australia…
Are we having an official unpeeling video? She looks superb with the upgrade you must be chuffed to have her back. When in close up the screens are stable on the wider cockpit camera the screens flicker is there a technical solution to this? Looking forward to seeing more flights soon.
Garmin seem to be upgrading all the aviation youtubers recently, great advertising.
Nice to see you airborne again.
$20,000 plus to put in the Garmins. With the promotion from Garmin, thats packing a lot of than that into the resale value into the aircraft.
Oh wow, the flight I spotted on flightradar? cool.
I'm not a real pilot (My dad was though, me, I am simulator and RC) but I have a Garmin watch and love it, it has been my favourite out of quite a number of watches over the years.
That panel though looks totally neat. Visually it looks so easy to look at and read than a noisy bunch of dials.
Love Garmin avionics in all 3 and soon to be 4th plane i fly.
P92 analogue gauges with GPSMAP496, SL-40, GTX328.
P2002 analogue with GNS430,gma347,GTX328.
P2008 mk1&2 with Glass 2x G3X touch,GMA 345, Garmin radio and transponder,2 GI 275 etc.
And soon
P2006T mk2 with full glass g1000 NXI suite etc.
Nice too see you back in the air! You must be so happy? 😎
Looks like a great setup :):) can’t wait to see more of it hiding away in the foreground of your vids when you take it up in the sky
As a guy that just had this done it cost 17,000 in labor and 12,000 in avionics
Nice Cockpit! love you work. Can you please do a video on the running cost of your plane?
Avionics look awesome! 💯🔥
Love it! Most impressive demo. That's impressive kit. Happy to be a fellow Garmin user - well, the micro-mini version of yours, which sits on the front of my bike . . . . !
I'm excited. I've already liked the video and am now making a comment but I haven't even hit play yet. I cant wait to see EYZ fly again.
Haha, thanks Andrew. I appreciate that.
Not been here for a while great panel upgrades looks great 👍 and great vlog you do it very well all the best Paul in the UK 🇬🇧
Thanks Paul
Almost there...all you need is a time scrolling feature ... And then you can name the processor HAL.
NICE.
Haha, well on long trips I do talk to EYZ, it's when it starts answering back that I need to worry!
@@StefanDrury soon, soon...
Awesome upgrade. Congrats on both the upgrade and becoming a Garmin ambassador 👍
Thank you, it's a very proud moment for me to be asked to work with Garmin. Would never have expected that 5 years ago when I started posting on CZcams.
@@StefanDrury Hard work pays off. Keep up the great work 👍
Looks great!!
Congratulation Stef & the new Garmin flight instruments are looking awesome!.
My only "worry" is the standby instrument redundant power source should you lose the main displays.
Now it's time to get more practice in, configure up the displays to have the moving map on the middle displays or exactly how you want them.
Does the Garmin come with TCAS so you know where reported ADS-B traffic is?.
As for the Red stripe, rather than waiting for a paint shop you could always look at say a thin strip of Red T-molding which they use on old arcade machines which is not just very durable & mounts via a centre groove routed into the panel & T-molding stuck down into the groove.
Can't wait to see more EYZ flights & a super, awesome achievement!
The GI275 as a stand by instrument has an installed internal battery that lasts for 60 minutes.
Great stuff Stef
Yay! 🙌
Good day for cubism. Would have said hi but you were with the family. Thanks again for the vid.
Ha, thank you Dan. That means a lot to me actually, hope you enjoyed it too. If you ever see me without family be sure to come say hello.
Nice. I have dual Dynon skyviews in my plane with integrated ADSB in/out, autopilot etc and with wifi can connect to my ipad with avplan to get in flight information plus I can download my flightplans etc. TL;DR I love technology as well.
Congrats, Stef! She's a beauty! I'd still love to fly together if you're ever in Scotland 😎
Beautiful panel, Stef. Congrats. One quick note: I saw that you used GPSS on the DFC90. You can just use NAV instead. I never use GPSS on my DFC90, neither do all the CSIPs I fly with.
No synthetic vision?
