The Spitfire is not just a better fighter and all round aircraft in its time it was streets ahead of anything else and the mustang never became anything till it got the Spitfire engine fitted to it.

I agree Spitfires were superior in all but one aspect... Mustang's had a much greater range... Mk lX spits would beat a Mustang in nearly everything else. However my favourite is still the Mosquito

Sad that you have to use a sim, but if you want to make your experience immersive, improvements in VR have really made sims feel realistic. X plane 11 and 12 have support for it and so does msfs.

Pilot, mountaineer, and now simmer. Next thing You'll be buying an airport or racetrack.

Point Cook is an aware base meaning it is barely an air base and only a p-51 mustang is kept there by the 100th squadron [and 4 AAFC planes] :)

Hiyazz Stef, from Eastern Canada! I know where you are coming from. I lost my pilot's medical (private and commercial) back in Jan., 2003 due 2 moderate brain injuries received from a bad wintery auto accident that almost killed me. Now, I suffered an acute clot-based stroke on the evening of Mon., Feb. 12, 2024, that has affected my right peripheral vision in both eyes but mainly my right dominant eye, and, has affected my balance somewhat. I figure now my chances of ever getting my pilot's medical back is extremely slim. I miss flying very much. I am daily reminded of what I enjoyed doing, since I live a 15 minute walk from the airport at home. I still have bouts of depression, stress, anxiety and such, mainly from the stroke. Keeping active in other activites, like work around the house, phyical exercise and hobbies, does help a lot. Thanks for sharing in what you when through and how you manage it. Thanks for the video. I hadn't noticed the "Route Planning" button in Windy before (which is skipped over in the video -- that's what brings up the VFR/IFR/etc menu). However, the really useful "weather during the flight" stuff is blurred out... you have to pay for "Premium" Windy to get it. Likewise 10-day forecasts. :(

Seems like a lot of in-cockpit admin! Makes me glad to have learnt to fly on the west coast of Canada; took off from an international so plenty of big boy airport practice for when you need it, but if you don't want to talk to anyone for a bit, you can nip off to the mountains and you don't have to talk to anyone. The landing procedure puzzled me though. I thought you just pulled the landing handle in a Cirrus. 😜

very well said mate, I haven't flown a plane for 40 years but lately have been thinking about trying again. 6 years ago I had an aortic dissection and was medically retired, I have only just come to terms with that, like you I'm a lucky bastard. all the best mate.

I thought you were already back fully fit to fly mate, all the best buddy. I had a 3 month medical suspension here in the UK recently- thankfully it was Winter and the Wx was dog-water! Best feeling ever getting the medical back, straight to the airfield I went!

Stefan, can I just remind you that in X-plane there is a lot you can do to tinker with control sensitivity. Also, spend some of what you are saving on avgas on the best controls you can find. I expect you know all that anyway. Look forward to seeing you at the real thing soon! PS - a bit of rest has left you looking a bit younger somehow.

Dude, MSFS with a Pimax 5K or 8K or even the new Crystal and you'll love it, makes flying a sim so much like the real thing.
