I found a way to fly again!

I received some positive health news this week so I decided to try and get some flight sim practise in to remind of how much I enjoy flying around Melbourne. I also need to practise flying a Cirrus SR22 G6 to have a refresher in the avionics and cockpit layout before a trip that's coming up. So today I'm firing up X-Plane 12 and doing some flight sim practise. ✈️ GET EXCLUSIVE FLYING CONTENT ✈️...

    If they would want to put an engine that’s producing less emission and is even more reliable then a Continental io 550 they should just put a ls engine in. The ls engines are more reliable and way cheaper to maintain.

    FYI, Stefan, DeltaHawk's new certified engine was flight tested on two testbeds: A Velocity V-Twin. A Cirrus SR-20. The company plans to have the 200hp version of their 4-cylinder 2-stroke jetfuel ready by the end of this year, then the 235hp model next year, and already said the 6-cylinder model is in development. Considering the answer you got from Stuart when you asked him, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a G8 a few years from now running one of those new 6-cylinders they're working on right now. You might actually see your unicorn. ;)

    @Stefan, can you please tell me why would you choose this one instead of DA42 as they are similar pricing? DA62 is not valid comparison. I like Cirrus full digital display, CAPS and so on...but in recent months DA42 with twin engine diesel motors.......only thing that Diamond does not have is CAPS but it has 2x more engines so......can you tell me your opinion?

    As pilots we love the evolution of improvements in technology. From the four bladed prop to the engine FADEC management system as well as the flight parameters corrections. Now, if we could only manage our ability to make as much money as our desires propel us! I for one as investing in Tesla and Palantir. I may not live long enough to buy my dream airplane, however, my descendants can!

    Hehe he talked you into believing that a million dollars for a 100k plane was reasonable :) The only real change of the G7 is that it lies to you that it's somehow like a visionjet now with no actual benefit to the change :)

  • @ericbuhrendorf
    @ericbuhrendorf Před 11 hodinami

    Not just why is it using a 20 year old engine but why does it still have mixture control and not FADEC if safety is truly the target?? Mixture management is easily one distraction that can be eliminated. Where’s autotrottle? Lastly… G3X touch screens is way better than touch screen controllers.

    As anyone here I’m a fan of flying & aviation. However, the complexity of even being able to afford a new aircraft let alone annual maintenance, repairs, holding/storage, landing fees, fuel, ongoing training & compliance just for a PPL, even a shared aircraft. These days most Australians can’t afford to pay rent let alone other expenses, I know as I alone work full time. Truly a privilege to those that have such an opportunity.

    The price of a new Cessna 172 was $12,500 in 1970. This SR22 G7 is $960,000 !!! That would be about $120,000 in 1970. Flying has now increased by 10 times the price over the last 50 years. Tech is supposed to make things cheaper!

    Important question (especially as I was an avionics engineer . And Murphy's Law.. Was always a guarding principle as an engineer...) How do you fly the aircraft, completely manually when you lose all automation, and power to the screens?

    • @Shaneepe1
      @Shaneepe1 Před 14 hodinami

      There are 2 alternators and two batteries on the plane. We are trained to handle emergencies as pilots and we just do without the automation and land safely. Also ga piston airplane can fly just fine without alternators or batteries since the engine is self powered by the magnetos

    Hey Stef, I've recently followed you're most recent tutorial on how to record in the cockpit and the audio. Although have released that because I am a student pilot currently at YSBK, I want to record the entire lesson, (typically around 1h) on a GoPro Hero 8. Although the GoPro is limited to 4gb videos. Is these any way to continuously record using an external hard drive or something similar? I've also realized that the headset audio randomly spikes in volume in random places, and is needed to be manually adjusted to -30db in Premiere Pro later on. Any advise on what I might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

    So, in other words, nothing has changed fundamentally. It is kind of becoming a decades-old Cessna approach to engineering-update colours, add a couple of bells and whistles and a pink ribbon, call it a new G, and bump up the price a bit. As you correctly pointed out, it is still the same old engine tech, and there is still no retractable option. DA50RG is a much more versatile and stylish aircraft of comparable performance.
