You're right, 100% agreed. I'm the biggest MJ fan, and a fan of Kobe as well because he reminds me so much of MJ. But there's something special about Kobe.

how many easy buckets did shaq get because of kobe drawing attention to the perimeter. people have always sided with shaq and disclosed that it was the other way around; shad would free the perimeter. all i ever saw was kobe demanding double teams 90% of the time and giving shaq 3 to 5 easy buckets per game. kobe was the man and he couldn't handle it.

shaq opening the floor has always been a myth. this is how i remember laker games from this era. kobe demanding a double team on the perimeter and giving shaq easy buckets under the basket when he didn't feel like killing a pair of defenders. who benefited from who?

Shaq averaged 38-19-5 at 62 percent in the 2000 finals against the pacers rick smiths who was a good 7 footer ..... First off, BeefPapa said it... Kobe getting doubled all game gave Shaq a ton of open space to work with in the paint. That was a reality for the majority of their era. So who was benefitting who?
Kobe dismantles and escapes the double team, gets cut off at the baseline but passes out of it, and makes a great off ball cut to get a bucket.
Kobe's greatness came from his hustle and heart, not only during the clutch moments, but making tough plays halfway through the second quarter of a easy W playoff game. He busted his ass even when it didn't matter.
Apply that to your own life and run with it. All my basketball lovers out there, these highlights are gold. Never stop watching em
I guess we are going to ignore how much the Spurs twin towers, Duncan and Robinson constantly double teamed Shaq and we’re allowed to get away with murder on defense by being very physical, hacking him, hooking their arms into him as evidence in the 1999 Spurs championship dvd. Meanwhile everytime Shaq breathed on Duncan, Duncan would flop and the refs gave him the Lebron, Tom Brady treatment.

if not for san antonio getting much better as a team that season,they would have got those 4th ring in a row..with the addition of parker,ginobili,stephen jackson,kerr,devin brown..the spurs rooster became deeper..

Ive been rewatching every Laker playoff runs from 2000 and Kobe looks WAY better this year than he did in 2000-02 and he was already crazy good and elite then too super clutch from 2000-02 as well. But this year he is looks way more skilled and polished, much better footwork and shooter too and even looks alot more athletic believe it or not. Scary.

@kanguesso Maybe you should watch the entire playoffs again because Kobe destroyed everyone (except maybe the thunder, but he was hurt). Pau was great as well. Kobe averaged 29.2 ppg (on 46% shooting), 6 rpg, and 5.5 apg he was simply amazing. Pau averaged 19.6 ppg, 11.1rpg, and 3.5apg also very good for a power forward. If you're saying Kobe wasn't consistent there must be something wrong with your memory.

If he looked a little slower, it had nothing to do with him being "past his prime" but more to do with the fact that he's played 2 seasons and 2 summers with no rest. Don't forget, Jordan in his 30's was much more polished than Jordan in his 20's. I think Kobe's best years have yet to come.

@moneymarc03 Yes i agree with you 100%. Multiple factors do have to be taken into consideration when analyzing stats and numbers. People will eventually hand all the credit to Kobe for winning the 2010 championships without realizing that the most consistent player in the finals was Pau Gasol. He literally took Garnett out of the Series with his aggressive play. You can actually make a strong case that Gasol could and should have been awarded finals MVP.

kobe had youth, athleticism and explosiveness on his side back then. Even that kobe was not as athletic, fast or explosive than MJ or LBJ. Playing with a prime shaq is so much easier for everybody. All you had to do was dump the ball down low and you had an automatic assist. I don't how kobe didn't average a Triple double for every year he played with a prime shaq.

@LmOnAy You're right, Gasol does have his softness issues at times and Odom up until recently was known as Mr. inconsistent. However, Kobe needs to sometimes even force feed Gasol because when he goes for 20 and up, they win big time. Just like the other day against the Suns in game 2 gasol went for 29 and 10 and they obliterated the Suns again. The bottom line is kobe has TOO GOOD of a team around him for him to even need to score more than 25 in any given night.

@moneymarc03 Dude i don't think you were watching the same series. It's not just about game 7. Kobe shot a dismal 24% from the field in game 7 and a horrible 34% in the whole series. Sure, he carried his team mates in game 5 but he was carried in game 3 and game 7. Watch those series again. Pau Gasol destroyed Garnett in game 1, 2, 3 and 7 with rebounds alone. Gasol was the best player and most consistent player in the ENTIRE POST SEASON, Not just in the finals.

@LmOnAy Of course Gasol is healthy because of Kobe. He doesn't get to take many shots to begin with. He sits there on the low post and doesn't see the ball that often. It's only logical for teams not to double team him. Would you double team a player who rarely touches the ball? Gasol complained about that a few weeks ago. In 9 quarters of games on the road, kobe had taken 67 shots alone. And they were losing. 67 shots? NO ONE with that kind of talent around him should take that many shots.

Yep, he had more lift back then. Changed it around 09-10 i believe.
I think he really changed his whole game, the moment he changed his number. That was after the knee surgery in the '06 offseason. Just look at highlights like the 81 point game or the '06 series against the suns and compare it to (for example) that 52 point game against utah in early '06-'07. His game looked completely different.
@kanguesso Kobe completely took ray allen out by simply making him defned him and tire him out. It was i think because of Kobe that ray allen shot just horribly in the series. His legs were simply tired.

Pau took it to Garnett who punk'd him in '08 and Artest took Pierce out who punk'd the lakers in '08 and how valuable was fisher to lakers? @LmOnAy I watch most of the laker games. I am not gonna sit here and say i watch them ALL. But, you can't argue with NUMBERS all the time. The Lakers are like 33-4 when Gasol scores at least 20-25 points and grabs 13 rebounds. However, the Lakers' record when ALL MIGHTY kobe goes 40 and up is not so impressive. Wanna know why? because when he goes for 40 or more, that means he's JACKING IT UP BIG TIME and the other guys are just bystanders. It takes them out of rhythm and they often lose.
