- It’s a combo platter tonight for Dirty Dining. A buffet restaurant that wasn’t making the grade and a dollar store that’ll give you the heeby-jeebies. Darcy Spears reports.
At least this guy come out clean and honest compared to the other chefs and managers I've seen.
Yeah, I was gonna say, the owner/manager here is super contrite and seems to at least understand that he needs to acknowledge the problem at least on camera.
Like, a really really low bar to clear, kinda common sense really, but so many managers and owners on this series don't seem to understand. I've worked in kitchens before, it's all sensible and pretty easy to comply with. This man at least seems to understand that there were problems and unlike other managers and owners in this series, he doesn't dismiss them or try and dispute that they had quality control issues.
He seems like a genuine guy, unlike most other who just try and kick out the reporters

props to this man for owning up and making an effort to learn and improve, all those order mgrs and owners in other videos that refuse to talk and close the door on the reporter should have their business license revoked immediately, if you run a business that violates health and safety codes you owe the community an explanation or else be shut down, the govt needs to do better here, its no laughing matter

We order Chinese food from a take out in downtown Toronto…we have for 10 years. Its really good food! Ive got a sensitive stomach but have never felt ill from this place…these stories freak me out!
The grading system needs to be a Federal law.
It seems like so many Chinese restaurants and buffets have food violations...:-(

Chinese restaurants always cut corners when it comes to cleanliness... the employees their hire usually don’t do very good cleaning and the owners somehow are ok with it because their themselves doesn’t really know what’s cleanliness..stay away from those small Chinese restaurants especially those Asian buffets..
Evade taxes too, also knew a guy that had to pay back food stamps, although famiIy owned grocery store, hire iIIegal and use cash.
This is the only news series I watch religiously.
Every local news broadcast should just be Dirty Diners, Halls of Shames, and how many people got shot today.
Any business that hides their grade card purposely or by mistake should be shut down immediately.

These non-compliance are very common even among caucasian owned restaurants, the TV stations just discriminate and make public coverage on chinese shops, u won't be surpised they are the same or worst inspection finding in these western shops. However chinese restaurants do have more such bad hygiene pratices. But the problem is TV stations arent showing other restaurants, its too biased.

My late father was a meter reader for the electric utility in Toronto, Canada. This was "back in the days" when all meters were inside and in basements. He ALWAYS had horror stories about the filth and unsanitary conditions of Chinese restaurants, especially the ones in the downtown area. He saw, over the years, dead rats and mice, live rats, mice and insects crawling over crates of vegetables, "tons" of rat and mouse sh*t on floors, overflowing toilets and even a few dead cats. He always assumed that the dead cats were next day's Chef's Special. True story, my friends.

@@alexm566 - That’s a scripted TV show. Chinese restaurants are notoriously bad. It isn’t even racist. Many people on the asian-American community will warn you the same exact thing.

Here's another story. Years ago, while attending Community College in Toronto, I drove taxi on Friday and Saturday nights. (It was safe back then.) One evening, I received a radio dispatch to pick up a take out order at a Chinese restaurant on Danforth Avenue. While waiting at the side kitchen door for the order, I saw two kitchen workers using a pail, situated beside a crate of vegetables, as a urinal. There was lots of "splashing" onto the vegetables. When done, they just "gave it a shake," zipped up and went back to cooking without hand washing. I left without the order and contacted my dispatcher. I found out the following week that he had called the customer and she was grateful that I left without the order. When I called the City Health Department on Monday to tell them what I saw, the person with whom I spoke told me that over 80% of the calls they received about filthy restaurants are Chinese eateries.
Glad they are on it.
I dont even understand why people open restaurants….. customers complaints, the amount of headaches with employees, equipment maintenance, cleaning maintenance, supplies issues, store maintenance, marketing, advertising, food spoilage, for very very slim and small margins for people just to complain, its better to not do this kind of business.

@@Heynmffc Of course it is. But all the violations are covered in the course. If they didn't take it seriously (or had somebody else take the course for others) they wouldn't have retained anything from it.

What exactly is the temperature "danger zone" for *cooked* food?
between 4-60 degrees celcius, below 4 and bacteria growth is significant delayed and over 60 is like where the bacteria start to die, you are meant to keep food out of the danger zone if it's going to be there for like 2-4 hours or something, idk do some research

They have a Serve Safe certificate on the wall so somebody there has to know something. Here in Arizona it's the gold standard for sanitation training. From my German cultural perspective I would hire a vetted teenager to come in a couple of days a week to just clean and organize and make it worth their while. It would be money well spent considering the headaches this guy is dealing with running a filthy kitchen.

No coincidence. This series does plenty of episodes on non-Chinese restaurants. This vid is just recommended because of racist comments popping up in the last few weeks, bumping them up the algorithm.
Yep, a lot of Indian restaurants I've been to in the US are just as bad and maybe even worse. Of course, there are good ones too. Just do your research and you should be fine.
