      I have a quick question, I replaced my PCV valve today and it worked perfectly and fixed my engine problems for about 10minutes but then suddenly my Bronco went straight back into the same sluggish mode that it was in before I replaced it. Why do you think it did this? Should I have replaced where the valve connected to the intake? (1986 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer 302 EFI)

      these symptoms sound right for some problems ive been having, on bmw 2008 x3 3.0L, i understand it has in the past had a recall on the pcv valve, im worried the replacement was done wrong as in the US many mechanics (even at bmw dealerships) tend to do things totally wrong on these cars. do you know offhand if my vehicle pcv valve is built into the valve cover or separate part i can check?

    I had a crack in the PCV hose on my HK Barina that I missed for a couple months - causing an initially very subtle but increasingly rough/high idle that would eventually either stall or get stuck at around at 1.5k rpm and lose acceleration altogether until the engine was switched off and on after a 5s wait. This video was a great help.

    I bought a car that was blowing a light white mist through the oil dip stick when I tried to check the oil.(while the car is running/on)
    Also light oil mist pushing up through the oil cap/oil refill cap when I take it off.(again while the engine is running.
    I for sure though the piston ring seals/ head gasket was blown (but no white or cloudy oil in dip stick).
    I bought the vehicle anyways thinking I had to change the motor.
    It turned out to be just the pcv value was stuck and it was all I had to change for less than $25.
    Bought the vehicle for $1000.
    The vehicle is still going for $5-6k.
    Man I hot lucky.

    My 2008 Honda crv 2.4l had issues with a lean bank 1 and ran rouph at a stop and fuel mileage was horrible. I found a collapsed PCV hose and changed the hose and PCC valve. The car long and short term fuel trims went back to normal withing 10 percent of each other and fuel mileage improved with smooth idling. If Pcv valve is closed it increases crank case pressures and could cause oil leaks out of the rear crank bearings, oil pan head covers and sludge up your engine. Small part big problems. Check it and make sure it's working properly. And please don't vent to atmosphere. It's better to have engine burn it clean then to pollute air even more. I also had to clean my throttle body because the dirty air clogged everything up. I had just bought this car used and must have been like this for a while. All good now. Thx

    I think best to prevent the PCV Valve from getting clogged up . Is to have routine oil changes every 5-6000 miles with a new filter . And to use a detergent based engine flush such as AmsOil or Liqui-Moly each time .

    I had anti-freeze constantly bubbling up and getting all over my cylinder covers in my Crosstrek. I've taken it to a mechanic, and they told me that the PCV valve was busted and had sucked oil into everything, and the oil had caused a lot of tubing to crack and break. Estimated cost of repairs would be ~$1000 (all while saying there's no guarantee it would fix the issue). They also told me this could have been caused by an oil pan leak (Subaru gonna Subaru), and they gave me the estimate of $6000 to fix that.
    I'm thinking on just having the PCV valve and tubing replaced because that seems to be the most likely candidate of what caused the issue (and on a vehicle w/ 127K miles on it, I don't think the PCV valve had ever been changed). And if the oil pan is leaking, it must be a small leak, because I don't see oil on the ground, so it can leak a little while longer for as much as I care.

    Good video, thankyou. I have a 2005 LEXUS IS200 that my daughter drives. 190,000kms. When cold start in the morning I see a small amount of light grey or white smoke at the exhaust for maybe 7secs only. The engine has begin to use oil, we have added 1L in about 6weeks of daily commuting 50km round trip. I am thinking Valve seals but another suggestion was the PCV on the IS200. Your examples do not match my case however I am interested to get your opinion/guidance. We are in SEQLD, Australia with Summer temps in the 25-35deg C.
    Naturally I prefer the PCV to be the problem as replacing the valve seals is a harder job than on old cars. Cheers

    I don’t have any symptoms of a blown PCV except oil loss about a quart every 3K miles. Also oil is black at about 3K miles.
    I think I should replace the PCV as a preventative measure. What is your opinion?

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 Před 9 měsíci +1

      2011 shouldn't have a pcv valve because it uses a special breather that's in the drivers side valve cover that separates the oil from the blow by fumes and there is a upgraded valve cover for it that you can buy for it because there was a tsb on this from 08 models up that were having issues of to much blow by clogging up the throttle bodies on these engines . Also if your AFM auto fuel management system is still turned on that shuts cylinders down to conserve fuel and get better fuel mileage these engines had problems of those cylinders 7&8 I think it was where when they are shut down to much oil gets sprayed from the sprayer in the oil pan that sprays those cylinders and what happens is it's too much oil and after a while this oil turns into carbon that gets into the oil control ring lands on the pistons and what happens is the oil control rings get stuck in the ring lands instead of being pulled out to the cylinder walls by the cross hatch marks from the honing process when the engine is built at the factory and the honing process is what pulls the compression rings and oil control rings out of the ring lands into the cylinder walls so it builds compression. So once those oil control rings are stuck in those ring lands you get more blow by and oil consumption because the oil rings aren't doing their job of scraping excess oil off of the cylinder walls on its way back down . Try the valve cover and if I were you buy a Diablo sport tuner that lets you turn the AFM off or a Range disabler that turns the AFM off that plugs into the OBD port on your drives side just under the dash . I was have the same issue and did the upgraded valve cover and shut the AFM off and less oil consumption and the trucks instant fuel economy gauge in the dash says I'm getting only a 1.5 mile less fuel mileage with all 8 cylinders working . The other thing is if you leave the AFM on eventually you will have lifters that will fail because when the VLOM that's under the intake valley pan turn on and then cuts the cylinders back those lifters aren't being lubricated and they will fail and can do engine damage to a point that the engine is junk and either has to be rebuilt or a different good running or new crate engine installed . There was a lawsuit against GM on this but the judge tossed it out and probably was paid off from GM to do so under the table and a lot of people were having major issues with these engines . This covered the 2008-2012 models but now there is another lawsuit that is for the 2012-2021 trucks with the 5.3 engine that are having the exact same problem but if the people's lawyers win this they will be the ones that get most of the lawsuit money and the people who wrote their names down to add to the lawsuit they won't get enough money from the lawsuit to even fix their engines or have them replaced by GM . The only way GM did any repairs on these engines is it the truck was still under its 5 year 50,000 mile warranty or if the person who bought the truck had bought the extended warranty and GM would honor that but nothing past these . They make AFM delete kits that come with a new cam and roller lifters and lifter boxes plus the head gaskets and pushrods and needed plugs to plug the oil ports off from the VLOM so the engine runs with out the AFM runs on all 8 but after this is done you need to send the computer into have the AFM shut off internally or use the Diablo sport tuner or the Range disabler but once done these engines actually run much better than they did from the factory and make more power . GM also made a oil diverter that shuts that oil sprayer off and takes that oil and sprays it towards the oil pan sump where it should be and found out that spraying all that extra oil in the bottom of the engine specifically at cyl 7&8 that wasn't a good idea because it was causing the mentioned extra oil consumption and blow by because of the stuck oil rings .

      @@peteloomis8456 wow thank you so much for this deep explanation. Well said and thank you for your time. I’d like to turn off the VLOM but the dealership warns against it. Also, I am a bit confused about the Diablo system. If I do that will I have to replace the rollers and plugs and all? Or are you saying that the actual modifications cause further problems and to just do themDiablo only?

    I recently discovered the valve on the Toyota Camry with the 2AR engine is not exactly in a user-friendly spot. It can be done unless your power steering unit is in the way, which makes the job more complicated.

    This is just the video I was looking for! I have a 2007 Audi A6 C6 with a 3.0 TDI. For a while there has been an odd unburnt fuel smell at the back of the car when warm and idling (not when cold, no smell or smoke when cold) or when has been sitting in traffic, only a puff of smoke. Does not consume oil, no check engine light. Noticed where one pipe leaves rocker cover and feeds back in at turbo, both areas now have a light misting of oil (sweating not soaking everything) has felt OK for most part, pulls hard and smooth, returns good gas mileage, starts fine, idles fine, but about three times felt the slightest fraction of a second hesitation. Can I ask does this sound like a stuck open PCV valve from what you have said, or a failing one. Car is on 180,000 miles. No excessive oil puddle inside intake area where breather feeds back into intake. - I have a funny feeling the PCV valve will be burried in the V on these engines :) Any thoughts would be great as a starting point, great video thanks ! Ben.

They can and do go bad because the spring inside gets weak and opens up to early or stays open . I've even seen where that valve at the bottom actually wears out from opening and closing so much from years of service and when it wears out it basically sucking blow by past the valve right into the intake and burned through the exhaust like what was shown on here . I've been working on old cars for 40 years and have seen all kinds of problems related to PVC valve issues . Old cars that were before emissions just used a valve cover breather that either pushed on or was turned or twisted on that had a filter of sorts inside but it had a hose barb that the hose attached to or a pipe that ran down the side of the engine and the blow by would be let out into the atmosphere and when the engines got worn out badly of course blow by is much worse and oil will actually start to drip out of the hose or pipe onto the road which if enough cars are doing this it causes damage to the tar roads and guys on motorcycles can go down because of the oil that causes loss of control and slipping tires especially in high traffic areas and cities .

    Or you can cap off the intake side and remove the PCV and vent it to atmosphere with a small filter in place and not have to ever worry about it ever again.

      Yes, that would work. But on the downside, you'll have the fumes from the engine coming into the cabin throught the ventilation. And, in some places, it's not road legal to have this setup.

    For the simplest type of PCV valve it may cost you under $50 for one that costs $0.50 to make. If you are lucky to have a car designed by the superb German engineers, as the BMW in the example, it may cost hundreds of dollars for a part that costs $8 to make, but will also cost you a few hundreds dollars for a German car "specialist" to find it.
    It is worth point out typical German car specialist garage usually has a name with ends with Auto Werks.

    My sons 2006 Honda CR-V seems to have more smoke from tail pipe than others. I’ve replaced the pcv valve but nothing changed. It does have higher mileage at 181k and clearly it burns oil because we have to keep an eye on the level. I tested the cylinders and they are all 165psi and above. Still trying to understand why he’s burning oil or why there’s a bit of smoke until the car really warms up a lot. Weird. Most tell me it’s a Honda don’t worry but my other Honda doesn’t do that.

      It is burning oil. That is the cause of the smoking tailpipe. Just keep checking oil level, top off when needed and the car will run for years like that. Just keep the oil level where it should be.

So now they told me It seen that I got a head gasket leak and that what cause the issue on the first place. The car it's 2014 with only 75000 miles so it's neither to old or with high mileage.

    • @kennymac2921
      @kennymac2921 Před 6 měsíci

      It wouldn’t run very well at all if there is no valve mechanism. I’d assume that someone has previously blocked off the hose where it connects at the inlet manifold. They have either run a secondary hose elsewhere to relieve crank case pressure or the hose is venting into the atmosphere somewhere.
      Do you tend to have oil leaks going on?
      When crank case pressure build and isn’t running out of a PCV valve that can open then it’s the engine seals being put under pressure creating leaks.
