- This video is a little panel question and answer session put on at an event with myself, a certified perinatal nurse and 4 other amazing compassionate women who are experts within the labor and delivery nurse, mother baby nurse and lactation spaces. Here's a list of the questions we answer:
3:09 - Who is present in the birth room?
5:07 - As a first time IVF mom should I schedule a c-section? Why do they push inducing?
8:17 - Are there any tips or tricks for preparation of someone's first VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean)
12:46 - What are the top three mistakes a spouse can make in the delivery room?
13:00 - What do you expect the doctor to ask about for baby at the first checkup?
16:14 - How can you help reduce varicose veins?
18:18 - What is in the epidural?
12:19 - My epidural with my last baby was so high I couldn't feel anything. How do I know when it gets to that point do I need to turn it down? Do I need to turn it off?
24:00 - Do you think you should try to get your epidural early and make the tweaks as needed or try to wait as long as possible to get the epidural?
28:05 - At what point is it too late for an epidural?
29:45 - Do you have tips for a natural VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) after a first traumatic c-section birth?
36:23 - Do you feel there was a difference in your recovery after your unmedicated birth vs your epidural birth?
38:22 - What does your first night postpartum look like? What are you (the nurse) doing? What does that look like?
41:25 - What is the correct muscle group to use for pushing?
44:04 - "I'm adopting and I'm wondering if you had tips for helping the mother before labor, during labor, and postpartum?"
48:25 - "Obviously babies come when they are ready. But what are the things that are ACTUALLY helpful? Not just like oh hey this person on Pinterest was like hey do this..."
54:32 - "For babies that are born in the NICU how do you, as a parent, prioritize bonding with them, spending time with them, stuff like that?"
57:58 - "Should I eat if I'm low risk during labor and I'm worried about throwing up because of a possible emergency c-section?"
1:08:03 - "Is it just unmedicated or epidural"
1:10:50 - "My water just broke! What do I do while at home to get contractions going? (she said she already called the hospital"
1:13:22 - "Thoughts on a foley bulb for induction"
1:15:26 - "I'm a support person. So aside from taking care of mama what's a good route of advice that you guys give?"
1:17:28 - "If you're planning on breastfeeding how soon after birth should you be trying to latch baby?

I’m due 11/14 and WOW this is amazing to hear all of your answers. Thank you all for combining your knowledge and experience and wisdom and putting this online for moms everywhere to see! Appreciate it so much!
I’m glad that they took the time out to have this as a first time mom almost 38 weeks they answered a lot of questions I had and makes me think of questions to ask my midwife/docat my appointment this week
Sarah, the gal who is whispering, is my spirit animal. I lost my voice w/ the flu for 2 days but even whisper talking left me coughing. So she's awesome!
She was so frustrated!! I went through and made sure to type her words out because she’s so so so knowledgeable and I didn’t want anyone to miss anything!!
@@mamanursetina this whole video was wonderful. Thank you, all 5 of you, for this
Love the "No Risk Free Choices" there is a peace that statement brings nomatter what you choose.
Am in Ireland currently still in hospital after a C Section for my first Pregnancy being discharged today morning.
Listening carefully and will watch it to the end. Sooooooooooooooo informative. Found my Society. Well Done Tina.
Had to be induced coz baby was nomal small and was already passed due date- Jumped to the C-Section after taking long in labor and was still 7cm dilated.
So me for the labour pains where I actually ended up having an epidural but still had to accept the C-Sec. *Better SAFE THAN SORRY* . Tried for some good time for the baby so never wanted anything to stand in the way. If you relate, you know what I mean.
Sorry Quite long, but happy to share.
Awwww! Congratulations. And thank you for such kind words!
@@mamanursetina thank you Tina. And thank you again for creating this space.
Amazing nurses and love how you guys are helpful to us . Thank you
Such a good video, really informative!I loved it especially the part about the nurses and staff being a good advocate for mom and supporting all her decisions. I took notes as well! Thank you to all the nurses for taking the time to do this, this Was really helpful to me! I’m 6months pregnant and so excited for baby to come :)
Thank you for this great information! I've been very focused on information in my preparations for birth; now, I think it's time to get my headspace ready! Thank you!
Thank you all for the amazing work you do! ❤
Thank you for sharing all this information!!!
I wish all nurses could be so educated and supportive in birth.
I think some health professionals don’t think about the lasting impact they can make on women and their birthing experience. I’ve unfortunately had so many bad experiences with nurses, which guided my decision to birth at home.
Hospitals are for sick people, not for birthing your baby.
We need more of these this was great!
So wonderful doing this with you amazing ladies!!!!
💕
Thanks for sharing this!
Love this!! Thanks ❤
i'm an OR nurse currently pregnant with my first & i'm oddly excited to experience birth! god willing, natural & unmedicated 🤞
Good for you. I just had my sixth at home unmedicated, it was a thrill and blessing.
I personally loved it so I get it ♥️ congrats!!
Just had my second at home, no assistance, birth is so easy and beautiful!😊
This was awesome! I feel more empowered for my pregnancy.
🙌🏻🙌🏻
This is great! 5x mom here headed into 41weeks with a planned tolac/vba3c (had twins 1st). These providers do exist mommas!! My care team consists of dual midwives, MFM (maternal fetal medicine), and an overseeing OBGYN. Make sure you ADVOCATE 🙌🏼 nothing in health is ever risk free, there is usually always options 😊
This is amazing!! Congratulations!
Love this and all you videos! Please tell Sarah to link her stuff to youtube too. I dont have TikTok but I love her vibe and want to see her videos!! Definitely recommended Bridget Teylor, I did her whole program online and did my Induction naturally thanks to her and all you guys!
She’s amazing. You can find her on TT, Facebook and Instagram!!
What a great video!
I felt guilty the first time i really needed sleep, and requested her to be taken to the nursery. Also my roommate had just given birth but baby was still held for some reason and she was weeping all night for not having the baby with her after birth, she just wanted her baby around, so that made me guilty but at the end of the day i was like mama- This is your life, do what is best for you. You can only pray for her and let the staff do their work than trying to carry a burden not yours yet you have more to deal with as well.
💯
Never ever feel guilty for doing what you need to do for yourself. If you need a break from baby to sleep or just decompress or whatever reason at all, do it. If you need to keep baby with you every second, do it. Take all the help offered to you or don't take any. Just because others do things differently, doesn't mean your way is wrong!
❤❤❤
@@heleninglis9961 that's right. Thank you so much. Will keep the last statement for my next show. "Just because others are doing things different doesn't mean your way is wrong."
With my first daighter, 16 years ago, I didn't have her go to the nurses station at all and I was EXHAUSTED. I just had my son 3 weeks ago, and had.to stay (he was 5 weeks early) 4 nights. Starting first night, I had them take him for 2 hours per night, so I was guaranteed 2 full, uninterrupted hours of sleep, and it was a game-changer! Do NOT bully yourself for wanting to take an uninterrupted shower or for taking a nap! Let the nurses love on your baby and get some rest! ❤
Im from a small town where at my local hospital the L&D is also the mom baby nurse. My second was high risk so I had her a bigger hospital and I was shocked that they had the 2 separated. 30 mins after giving birth I was a totally different floor of the hospital.
My youngest is 19 & eldest is 20, i wish I'd heard all this before id had them. Especially about breast feeding. I was told baby should feed roughly every 4 hours, about 3 ounces each feed! I couldn't cope & started stressing. Baby wanted feeding constantly so i thought I was doing something wrong. Then my nipple started blistering & bleeding. I tried so hard & was heartbroken when i couldn't continue. Literally cried for days, i felt like a failure as a mother. My daughter only stopped fussing for the 1st time in 3 days after i gave her a bottle of formula
So painful. Had to just wake my baby up for the feed coz my breasts where about to burst
😩😩😩
I'm 42, and my mom couldn't keep up with the recommended feedings back then either, and I was also heartbroken to use formula. My oldest is 16, and she was a natural at nursing, and I was an oversupplier, so we had no problems, but I can understand now how scary it is to worry about supply! I had my youngest 3 weeks ago, and over the 16-year gap, my hormones have obviously changed, and my supply is much less this time. I still produce plenty, but because it's not as much as last time, I had a few moments of panic this time, worrying that my supply wasn't going to be enough! It also didn't help that my insurance pump was trash, and my supply went way down because I was trying so hard to use the trash pump and couldn't empty my breasts fully! I'm sorry you struggled, but a fed baby is a happy and healthy baby, so I hope you've had a chance to heal! ❤
I feel the lady who lost her voice so much, I get laryngitis so easily when I’m sick and lose my voice so severely 😭 kudos to her bc I would be so irritated with myself not being able to speak
I love this. ❤
Thank you, it was so fun!
I can't stop binging your content, but then I kick myself, because I have to wait for the next video to come out. Thanks for showcasing some other creators with medical backgrounds for me to watch while on standby. I don't have children yet, but I am informing myself on all things baby for the day that I do.
Awwww love that!!
Me too! I feel like it'll help me to be low stress when I get there
I'm not sure if this has been asked.. but are gift baskets for your labor & delivery doctors & nurses accepted? Would be interested in ideas for this to try & plan a gift basket, if able to.
Such a great video

Can you make a video on Formula feeding and which formula you suggest most??
Love this ❤❤❤
Love you!
I needed this 5 days ago, they induced at 38 weeks and I didn’t want to because I felt we were doing well and wanted to let my body naturally go into labor but they felt my barely high blood pressure was enough to warrant it. I wish I had known the brain acronym. My baby ended up being 5lbs and my blood pressure was on the lower end during the entire labor. Baby did well entire labor and then delivered and ended up in NICU, they didn’t even suction him. Feeling so defeated and guilty that I did stand my ground and refuse induction. I did stand my ground on going unmedicated and had him unmedicated but the whole experience was frustrating. 😢😢😢
Oh no I’m so sorry you’re feeling that way! 😔
@@mamanursetina our boy is here and healthy going home today so I don’t want to complain. Grateful for your education!!!!
This is so frustrating. So glad you got to go home with babers.
Can you please do planned c-section birth plan?
I have never heard of IVF pregnancies needing to be induced. My daughter is an IVF baby and I had a completely normal birth. I went in to birth naturally at 37+6 days. My OB did tell us IVF babies do have a tendency to come a little early which was true for us.
Ah that’s interesting. I’m willing to be this might be provider dependant. Hopefully they just decide to come a touch earlier on their own! 🙌🏻♥️
@@mamanursetina yes that is true! I have heard that providers tend be more careful with IVF pregnancies just because it is pregnancy that took so much time and effort. Perhaps it has something to do with that. I am glad that I ended up having a completely natural birth!
I was so afraid of eating pineapple for my first 6 months of pregnancy. Then one day i gave in because I just didnt buy that it would cause spontaneous labor. I ended up eating an entire pineapple over the course of about 6 hours.
A week later i bought another pineapple, planning to pace myself. I ate two rings of pineapple and had a really sudden allergic reaction! I've never had a pineapple allergy before. But i seem to be developing similar food allergies as my mom and she cant eat raw pineapple. So my pineapple scarfing pregnancy craving days are sadly over as quickly as they started 😭
I’ve been proscribed letrozol for infertility I just did my first dose for first month on it. And I’m crampy is it normal for someone who is using letrozol as a ovulation indication to feel cramps
You would have to chat with your provider, I am not too familiar with fertility meds
My daughter just got pregnant her 1st cycle on letrozol. Sometimes that is an early indication of pregnancy and normal. Check with your doctor.
Do you usually feel cramps with ovulation? I do, monthly, so I'd say it's probably a sign that the medicine is working on your ovaries, at the very least! But, like MNT said, talk to your doc for solid answers 😊😊 best of luck, hon!
I’m pregnant and I asked my OBGYN to order nitric oxide for my birthing.
so distracting for the presenters to be checking their phones :-/ otherwise great to have these gatherings thank you
1st off I Love this! But the way how they deserted the fake baby after showing babies come out of the vagina 😂
Whoever is agreeing and responding every single time someone talks please stop 😭 it’s an open panel, not a conversation
Why is that girl on the left on her phone the whole time? It was quite distracting and seemed disrespectful. Unless she was communicating with a patient or her medical team
I was thinking the same thing. The two nurses on the left had their phones in sight of the camera and within reach the entire time. It definitely took away from the presentation. Very distracting. They could've put their phones away for an hour and 20 mins instead of texting and taking photos.
If there was a true emergency with a patient, there would be another on-call nurse in their practice that could've handled it.
She could have something going on. Try not to judge.
They had Instagram and Facebook lives going on so that people could ask questions there too if they couldn’t be at the event. I’m sorry it was distracting 😔
Didn’t even notice, but basically was using it as a podcast
Maybe she’s on call?
The whispering is soooo annoying 😅
She lost her voice as mentioned. She was annoyed too ☺️
It’s funny how nurses actually have no knowledge about a natural physiological birth. So sad.
What kind of a weird comment is this?! Is there a reason why after watching the knowledge of this many seasoned nurses trying to do better for their patients you would come to THAT conclusion?
@@mamanursetinaseems like this person just commented their feelings without watching or comprehending the video.
The optics of this panel is not great as far as diversity goes. Great nurses with great answers but this is just something to think about when considering a diverse audience of pregnant women ☺️
Absolutely agree. This was an event put on by a company and the Q+A was part of her scheduling. We did another one the following day that included a doula and a black mother who is known on socials as being an advocate for black moms in the US ♥️ I absolutely hear you on this one!
I see plenty of diversity in their birthing experiences, the amount of hands on experience in their job, their field of expertise, diversity of ages, etc.
It's sad that diversity means race to you.
@GuisellePhillips no one said anything about race except you and mama nurse Tina.
Original poster could have been referring to midwives, duolas, and etc
