I mentioned in the video, but honestly all finish times (be it a 2 hour marathon or a 9 hour marathon), are fully respectable and every marathoner is amazing.
At the end of 2019, I had a 3:23 in the bag and was on the top of my game - then on the 1st Jan 2020 I got injured, then Covid happened, then more injury, then I just fell out of a training cycle. For my first big race back to be 30 mins above my PB was just sort of official confirmation that I'm not where I was 22 months ago, and when I was already vulnerable from the race it all just got on top of me.
Congrats to all finishers, good luck to Manchester/other runners and thanks for watching!

At around 2 minutes into the video, that's Olympian James Cracknell just running past you wearing number 50138.
That’s so so cool, I’ve listened to him on a few podcasts! Thanks for pointing it out!
@@AliceOnARun I only recognised him because I've seen him on TV on the SAS program recently.
Great job. The fact that you can actually talk, and video, and run is amazing. I’m trying to run my first marathon next year. Great job!!
Good luck with it! It’s a big journey but it’s great finishing your first one!
Great Vlog Alice. Congrats on finishing you ran really well. Great job! 😎🤘🏻
Thank you!! 😊
Congrats on a marathon finish...something to celebrate no matter the time! But, I do also know what it's like to be disappointed by a race, so the feelings are valid. Every race is a learning experience for the next time. Thanks for taking us on your journey through the London Marathon!!
Thanks Jane! I should have followed the advice in your pacing strategies video!
Glad to see you back uploading Alice, won't be long till you're back hitting PB's😁
Thanks James! It’s definitely going to be a journey!
Amazing running, Alice!! Well done. It's a fantastic time, even though I know it's not your PB. 👏👏👏
Thanks Sarah 🧡 see you Saturday!
Well done for finishing. I dream of getting a time like that one day but I understand it's all relative and I only compare my performance with me. So I get why you would be disappointed when you have done so much faster before. However finishing a marathon is ALWAYS something to be proud of and celebrate. Well done!!!
Yes, I definitely recognise it’s still a time to be proud of. It’s just more that I suspected I had got less fit but didn’t have the confirmation until now. Onward and upwards, thanks for watching!
Perseverance is a skill! Be proud of yourself, you’ve got absolutely no reason to hang your head. Congratulations, well done!!
Thanks so much for the kind words :)
Hey Alice - i dropped you an email about using this vid as part of our BBC London Marathon coverage this year! thanks so much. Phil
I am on a youtube video marathon about marathons lol I'm planning to do my first marathon only next year and every person who can do it is a hero for me. Great job young lady!
Good luck and enjoy training!
Congrats what a brilliant result
Thanks so much
Great job. The marathon can sometimes be an emotional roller coaster.
Haha too right 😅
I’m running my first marathon next weekend so thanks for the inspiration.. I think below 4 hours is an awesome time so be proud of yourself for your achievement 🌻
Thanks so much and absolutely best of luck for the marathon next weekend! Which one are you doing?
@@AliceOnARun thanks very much. Yorkshire marathon next Sunday! I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get there but finally managed to get some petrol today 😂😂
@@adamsosa that’s cool, I love York! Would love to do that one day
@@AliceOnARun managed 4 hours 8 mins and didn’t stop so happy with that for a first attempt. Now starting to train for a 50k trail run in December. Thanks for all the positive and useful content 👍🏻
That's a great time; even if not a PB it still requires a lot of training and fitness - try not to be too hard on yourself :-)
Onwards to training for the next race!
Yeah, I should be proud of it - it’s hard to compare to past times but so much has happened since then. Thanks James 😊
Well done, Alice. Please don’t beat yourself up too much about your time. Everyone has good and bad runs. Sunday was my first ever marathon and I made it round in 6:21. It was quite a bit slower than I’d hoped (I was doing fine up to about 15 miles but had to walk most of the way home) and was a bit upset about it yesterday. But it’s important to look for the positives: for me, it’s that I am fit enough to finish a marathon distance, I had only run 10 miles continuously before July, and I can learn from the experience to hopefully do better in future. Keep your chin up. You did great! Adam
Thanks so much Adam, and congrats on an amazing progression!! Only 10 miles at once before July, that’s crazy, you should really really be proud! Hope you keep running and you’ll definitely see your time come down, but it’s nothing to sniff at :)
Thanks Alice. I'll definitely keep running! My next goal is to tackle a few half marathons and see whether I can get below two hours. :)
@@adamhallgarth4662 ooh best of luck with it! Enjoy the journey
Well done for getting it done 💪
Thanks!! Would have walked the whole thing if need be to get to the end
I am doing my first half marathon in may in Colchester 10k I can’t wait
Thank you for the video I’m running in October 2022. I’m 53 and I’m hoping to Finnish in 6 hours - 4 hours is really good and you have done Amazing- was it hard to run with your go pro ?
Well done I done it for my first inn3.44 was so buzzing
Congratulations, that’s amazing!
I'm a bit late to the party Alice, but very well done. What a great time with all th walking, but as you say, when you have run quicker times it can feel disappointing. But you got it done. What's next?
Thanks 😊 I have Boston booked for April if covid restrictions allow
@@AliceOnARun excellent! THAT. IS. AN.AWESOME race!
I saw you at Mile 24, I tried to hand you a (zero percent) beer! Your pal Avi from Brunch Club!
Aaaah nice! I don’t think I could have understood a nuclear alert at mile 24 I was so past it, so don’t take it personally!
Where's your theme music??? Great to see this channel again. Missed it.
Haha, went in cold this time (much like the race...) Thanks Ben, hope to do a video about starting the parkrun soon
How do you ‘run late’ on marathon day?! 🤔 🤨
By living a 15 min walk away from the start area and getting intel from volunteers that you can arrive whenever 😉
@@AliceOnARun nice 👌
"I can't be bothered."
Few moments later: "I don't know what happened. I used to be good at running."
Well then get off your ass and get out there training! And put more effort in!
Thanks I’ll let my chronic injuries know
