    In the netherlands these fish go for about € 3,00 Usually 5 for € 15,00. I have them in a 30L heavily panted nano tank and they are breeding and fry is growing up. I don't feed any special foods, just fine flakes and that works well.

    Cool video on one of my favourite species.Thanks. You are the wrong way round though about their classification. They used to be considered as Rasbora but have since been reclassified as a Danionins, hence "Danio Margaritatus". Can't believe how pricey they are over there. They cost £3.50 to £4.50 over here in the UK.

    • @DIYMick
      @DIYMick Před 2 lety

      could be a few reasons. 1) you are taking too long to harvest the eggs and they are getting eaten. 2) they are in a planted tank and there lots of other places to spawn instead of the moss trap? 3) they may be too young still. I also have found that natural morning light triggers their spawning. When I get eggs it's in the morning. If there aren't any there before say 11am, i won't get them that day. They are typically daily spawners though. Some groups seem to do better than others...haven't worked out why

      They are mostly opportunistic middle feeders. They are a carnivorous specie so they prefer food that is moving (it triggers their hunting instinct).
      If the food is floating or goes to the bottom they are way less likely to go for it.
      These fish are very carefull, if they fear to go in some areas of your aquarium it's because they dont feel safe.

      they've come down a lot though. Most places in my area (south east) are under $20. I know of one place selling for $30 each though. Where are you?

    Good gawd man! That's expensive.
    Even now with 18% inflation and super high prices they are only like $7-$12 a piece.
    Normally like $5-$10

    Why do my danios hide when the light comes on

  • @ollie8314
    @ollie8314 Před 2 lety

    I have a group of 8 in a heavily planted 20g with other small community fish. I wasn't able to sex them at the store but for the first few weeks I figured out I had about 4 males, 4 females. Now a few months later, I am pretty sure that number is 5 males 3 females. It is definitely male heavy in the tank, and I doubt that is ideal since the males are absolutely bonkers, always showing off and sparring with each other. In my experience in a planted tank with a small group and other fish out and about they aren't shy at all. With the sex ratio I have they are far from that, and are the busiest and most active fish in the tank.

    Are they truly compatible with shrimp? Cheers

    • @phill1074
      @phill1074 Před 2 lety

      Yes and no. They will not bother adult shrimp. But they will eat baby shrimp. I have a planted tank (5 blue dream shrimp and 6 cpd’s) and my shrimp colony grew.

    • @cherylcalifornia125
      @cherylcalifornia125 Před 2 lety

      I’d say, yes. I have at least 11 cpd’s and about 9 chili rasbora’s (hard to count at times for they hide and are fast) with my colony of Neocaridina shrimp. I have adult, adolescent, babies, and berried shrimp in my tank. I feel like my shrimp could care less when they see my shrimp. I’ve seen shrimp probably as young as a week old.

    Great video as always! Keep it up, Nick! Also the other day I came up with a video idea, and I was wondering if you would like to have a small clip of you featured in my video. The video is about the worst mistakes fish CZcamsrs have made. All I would need would be a c]videoof you telling the story of your worst fishkeeping mistake. You can say no and I really don't care I just love your channel and I've been watching and regularly commenting on your videos (Under the name of peachy 313) If you would like to participate or want to say yes or no please reply to this comment and send me an email using the email in my about section on my channel! Keep it up, Nick!

    I had a colony of 13 of these at one point. Then the males got very, very aggressive. Slowly their numbers began to dwindle. Now have one giant male and two small females. A shame, because I really do love these fish.
