      @@Ariel_emerald Hmmm... If it's between Sony A7S III and Panasonic S1H I'd get the Sony - better low light while still able to record RAW externally, no matter the lower resolution. In fact if You have lenses sharp enough the difference when export to 4k is neglegable. Same normal HDMI port for both but more acurate colors from the Sony (my personal opinion). Also better flexibility with framerates when recor internally.

    It really is SUCH a massive difference... the spatial representation is very special. It somehow feels 3D to my eyes... like you can just reach into the image.
    Whereas with sigmas/cheaper modern lenses there is just sharpness verses bokeh/blurriness there is something more going on here. You can sense the minute distance change from her nose to her cheeks, but it does that across the entire image. I get a similar sense from zeiss and other expensive lenses.

    Just got my Elmarit 24,28,35,90 and Summicron 50 from 1970-76, I'm in love with them. Great micro contrast, the fall off is as good as Cooke. Nothing too sharp and nothing too shallow. Those vintage Zeiss got more 3D pop but their roll off are really awful which make them look more like photos, and they dont have the color/apeture consistency.

    The first video I knew was shot with Leica R was the award winning Dove Real Beauty Sketches commercial, shot by Ed David, who used a RED MX. Ed has a set of Leica R's and often uses them in projects. The combination of sharpness with vintage low contrast and neutral colour is remarkable. Since then, I've wanted Leica R lenses. Still haven't got them, but I'm working on it.
    As for camera vs lenses, I think I agree. Unless you're regularly booking jobs that pay considerable money, a 5k+ camera isn't worth it. You're better off building rental fees into the budget if the client wants RED or Arri, or a C300 II. Put your money into gear that will last across cameras, like lenses, lighting, tripods/grip, mics/recorders, etc.

    “Leica-R 35mm” could be an elmarit, a summicron or summilux! I use leica-r lenses even for pornos, the 80mm being the gem.

    • @nikolaskaratzastv

      Are there any differences between elmarits, summicron and summilux?

    • @KS0stli
      @KS0stli Před 3 lety

      @@nikolaskaratzastv Besides of course being f/2.8, 2 and 4, respectively, the summicron-R 35mm has pretty wild field curvature, that is, out-of-focus corners behind the subject getting gradually more in focus. The elmarit-R 35mm is much flatter in that regard.
      I still prefer the speed and rendering of the summicron 35mm (version 2) over the elmarit 35mm (v3) though. (Be aware that there are different versions of many Leica-R lenses with the same focal length, and that these sometimes differ quite radically). The FC of the summicron gives a tad more separation and depth than the WO aperture would imply, so it may even in part be that's it because of FC I like the rendering better. ;-)
      I haven't used the lux-R 35mm personally, so take the following observations regarding the lux with a grain of salt (BTW, it seems there's only one version of this lens), but it obviously renders quite differently from the summicron and the elmarit. Beautiful rendering however, more dreamy and less accute than its little sisters even at smaller apertures, or so it seems from the photos I've seen.
      YMMV, so I would advise you to review images online before making any decision.

    I recently invested in a pair of DZOFilm Pictor Zooms. Haven’t gotten to use them yet, but they’re supposed to have a semi-vintage, not too sharp look with nice bokeh, etc. They have some imperfections, but that’s sort of what I want. These cover 20-125mm, but I may get a super wide prime someday if 20 mm on a super 35 crop isn’t enough.
    Anyway, congrats on a cool set of lenses!

    Great progression Matteo :) I`ve been following you for some time and it`s always great to see progress on your channel. I have 3 questions, I know you use them with Pro Mist (1/4 I guess.. was it also the case of these shots?), and how would you compare that to Schneider Hollywood Black Magic? I found that one quite popular, but more and more ppl shooting Pro Mist these day. And the second question, I know you stated in different threat about some metabones limitations. Is it a big one? Or is it passable to adapt those to BMPCC4K, GH5S or X-T4 (I assume you use dummy adapter for your X-T4 shoots?). I about to pull the trigger on the first two 50&90 and here comes my 3rd question... debating little bit on the look differences between 32xx (1983) and 35xx (1990) , but had no chance compare myself side-by-side hence if you can enlighten me with any personal experience between the two, that would be appreciated. Many thanks for any hints and info, take care and looking forward to see some more beautiful work on this channel!! :)

    Adoro le lenti vintage, le lenti moderne hanno troppi trattamenti antiriflesso, così in controluce producono un fastidioso puntino di flare anziche un bagliore ad arcobaleno su tutto il fotogramma.
    Inoltre le lenti moderne hanno quella fastidiosa ghiera del fuoco senza finecorsa impossibile tenere il fuoco a mano, sono troppo taglienti nella nitidezza e ci costringono a montare poi un filtro promist, un paradosso.❤️🎥

    Matteo, if i were to only be able to purchase one of these lenses now what focal length do you recommend I get first? Great video thanks!

      The 35mm F2 is a good pick, but it really depends from your style...this is the 28/35/50mm focal lengths debate when you have to pick only one lens.

      @@LucaBono.Studio The FC on that is wild though. But whether that matters of course depends on intended usage. With FF I would never go for such a wide lens as a only one. Remember, a cinema “normal lens” is more a 75mm FF equivalent than a 50mm. (We don't want our footage to look iphonish, now do we? ;-)

      My favourite from all the Leica R lineup is the 35mm.

    What happens to the quality when you just buy a mount to convert it to Ef?

      Nothing they just replace the back mount

    Did you get them from Mark and then send them to Duclos or were they modded in the first place?

    I love the look of these lenses, but I've been leaning toward building a cine-modded Contax Zeiss set. Do you have an opinion on those lenses vs the Leica Rs?

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 Před 4 lety

      The general consensus is that Contax Zeiss have a more contrasty, modern look compared with Leica R, and they seem to have a cooler cast. There are shooters who swear by either. Contax Zeiss lenses are a bit less expensive and easier to acquire than Leica R, but still have great build and image quality.

    I totally agree, that's great advice. Micro Four Thirds is the best mount for getting good, affordable lenses for. Thats Sigma 18-35mm is ugly af tho.
