15 Improvised Scenes In Euphoria Season 2

- Some of the most memorable scenes from Euphoria were actually a result of total improv! From the hilarious one-liners to the brutal arguments, Euphoria took advantage of just how skilled their actors were.
Rue’s fights with her family are next level. Both her aggressive and violent argument with her mom in the first season and with her mom and Gia in the second came from the actors themselves. These performers are close and trust each other enough to be able to let themselves go to those dark and angry places, knowing they are just acting and will take care of each other when the cameras stop rolling.
Maude Apatow is pretty perfectly cast as Lexi - especially when we see her in action backstage bringing her play to life. Many of her one-liners and even her confessional style writing were loosely based on the way the actress behaved when she was in high school and running a show! Though the stakes definitely weren’t as high then - and we doubt their budget was as big as this one!
One actress was pushed so far by their co-star, that they wound up yelling out curse words during a take, revved up by the sass they were being served. A newbie to the scene happens to be one of the best improv talents around, many of their best parts coming directly from the actor. Euphoria is next-level intense, so when certain actors get a script that they feel is missing a bit of heat, they’ll speak up. When this does happen - you can bet that new dialogue gets improvised by both the actors and the creator of the show!
Keeping the set open to the flow has made the show that much better, letting us appreciate just how great these actors are!

What did you think of the season finale?! 😳
No season finale?!
Euphoria' brings the curtain down with a heavy dose of melodrama
Intense 🤩
CRying throwing up on the floor i miss ashtray
Disappointing
Lexi’s mom is hilarious. Her reactions during the play felt so genuine. Hope to see more of her going forward
I heard they apparently were the actresses geniune reactions! but I'm not sure if that's accurate.
I literally screamed as she screamed😂😂😂
@@spcvial yeah that's right
the whole time i was reacting the EXACT same way, i was like thats my kinda gal🤣
They were! There’s a clip of them seeing the play for the first time
the scene in this last season where rue fights with her mom and sister after she comes home from that binge was heartbreaking. i had similar fights as a teen. when rue breaks down crying and she's like "i didnt mean to scare you, i'm so sorry" i just couldn't help but cry. i can't imagine what it was like for Sam knowing this show is based off of some things he went through
Is insane this scene was improv, it was gut wrenching
it blows my mind. my mom was an addict and i had tons of fights like that with her
@@misseselise3864 awww
So heartbreaking. I had to pause the episode and walk away from my laptop when that scene got to its peak because it damn near caused a panic attack tbh. It gave me flashbacks from when I was still in active addiction. The fight was so similar to the ones my mother and I had. That whole scene was so fucking gut wrenching, Zendaya and Leslie are insanely talented for that improv. They should both get an Emmy for that scene alone!
@@misseselise3864 Same here, except I was the addict in the situation. I didn't realize other people went through that stuff too until I saw that scene.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this whole season was improvised, god
it really did feel like he wrote some of it as they went, or like he changed things. It’s not the same as a show with the entire story from season 1
fr lmaoo
🤣🤣🤣🤣🥹
I think improv and letting the actors put more into the dialogue instead of following a strict script is what makes a show/movie good. You can tell when a show or something is super scripted, if just doesn’t feel as natural and isn’t a good movie to me. I love how much depth is in the shows and how amazing these actors are to be able to bring these characters to such high levels.
It felt like this whole season was improvised lmaoo
You ain’t lying
yeah it all just feels natural, especially when maddy speaks. it feels like she’s just saying whatever comes to mind in the moment
The intervention scene is the best I’ve seen on tv ever. It was improvised? Mind blown….
Cassie: “IM CRAZIER”
Also Cassie: Runs from Maddie and gets the shit smacked outta her😂
czcams.com/users/shortsaaCCtYtFt1U?feature=share
It’s accurate in a way ig. Cassie *is* definitely more mentally unstable than Maddy lol
one doesnt have to do with the other one, there are people who play your mind and pretend to be dead flies. I think cassie is worst that maddie
Kinda feels like Sam Levinson just threw out the script for season two
everyone is saying that because it was all over the place, but it was meant to be so especially because big things were coming
My understanding was that it’s like that because it’s told from the perspective of a drug addict and they are known to be unreliable, but also something’s just had absolutely no pay off, and some character arcs feel like complete dead ends now, we will see in two years I guess lol
@@kealiabigale almost all of season 2 was about cassie so you cant even give him the benefit of the doubt about rue being unreliable narrator like she wasnt even narrating anything this season
He did! There was a script pre-Covid shutdown and then he decided to rewrite it all except episode 5 (ironically the best episode of the season)
That's because he pretty much did. Javon and Angus had both of their scripts completely scrapped literally two days before filming. He cut almost all of Barbie's lines and scenes the day of filming. I wouldn't be surprised if he scrapped even more.
I think that the Improv made some of the scenes feel so real because their reactions are really real and they're experiencing that moment for the first time with us onset
euphoria is a masterpiece i love maddy fez lexi and rip ash
Definitely gonna be one of the iconic series like mean girls that will never be forgotten. (But like way better)
Ash isn’t dead
The scene where Zendaya held her scene partner, who played her mom, a piece of broken glass to the actress’s face, I was scared and disturbed that it was improv, not scripted!
when rue fights with her mom in S2 i was literally in tears cuz that's exactly how my mom and i used to fight
Sadly same
I am a mom now and if my child every acted like that that would snatch my soul
Sounds like the whole show is filmed there and then on the spot 😂 and everyone just improvising as the cameras roll
Knowing how Sam just shows up to set with a "vibe" and no specifics, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that the entire season was improvised. It would explain why so many questions remain unanswered; the cast simply couldn't remember the plot points they improvised.
Also, how does not telling Maude the plan make her freak out less than if you told her?
Probably because she would’ve started overthinking how to do the scene. Sometimes doing it on the spot seems so much more effortless and natural
Absolutely LOVE Suze. How could anyone NOT?? Her character she plays excellent.
tbh i need to see faye’s improv lines that didn’t make it right now
Soooooo basically there was absolutely no script for the season whatsoever?! 🥴😵💫😵😲
My fav was the rue & her mom fight scene ofc omg i was SOBBINGGG so bad
😭
i don’t think sam really let them take all that control considering kat was brushed under the rug after having an argument with the director over wanting her to develop an eating disorder
she stood her ground and he didn’t like that so he cut her screen time heavily
thats upsetting but im so glad its not part of the storyline !!!!!!!! so happy she did that
I mean one of the reasons Euphoria is a good show is because a lot of us can relate to what some of the characters go through whether it’s trauma or any mental disorders so I can see why Sam wanted to give her an eating disorder simply because it’s common and it would make people relate to her more
You guys know that Barbie (Kat) addressed the rumors and she confirm is fake?
you do realize .. kats actor is heavily racist right ?
@@kaii2588 is she? i was searching for it and only found the tumblr thing which is apparently debunked? im genuinely not sure tho
i love how you included kat, wished i would’ve saw more of her on s2 :(!
Barbie’s laugh at 6:13 😹🥺
Zendaya has been an amazing artist for years&a great role model. She deserves awards!!
I don't remember laughing once while watching the show tho 💀
Amazing video 👌
Scene 3 of Season 2 was amazing. Perfectly acted. EMMY WORTHY.
If you actually work on film and tv this show sounds like a nightmare. No pre planning is why you have these 16-18 hour camera days. Brutal. That’s not counting the couple hours before and after a lot of people work. Gross.
Edit: I’m not saying it doesn’t look good or it’s not a well done show… these things can be achieved without human beings having to work 20 hours a day. Everyday. For a few months. Not just once or twice like the Background complaining had to do. There are hundreds of people involved in making film and tv and the director and actors work the shortest hours.
can’t rush art. there’s a reason this show is top of all time. Those 16-18 hours days fucking worked.
The hours and improve is what created that authentic feel they were going for
@@alexmunch9275 when Dustin Hoffmann admitted that he too had not slept for 72 hours to achieve emotional verisimilitude. “My dear boy,” replied Sir Laurence Olivier smoothly, “why don’t you just try acting?”
@@cupidsfckedupfairy then spend a few years in preproduction figuring it out, and don’t waste other peoples lives for your “art”
@@cupidsfckedupfairy The crew should not be asked to work dangerous hours because the director and showrunner are sloppy.
It felt all over the place because most of us actually watched the episodes as they came out each week. We’re used to binging and watching the whole season straight through.
A generation that's truly entitled and spoiled!
@@rlgnoles1 ok boomer

I love it
I’ve often wondered if a lot of scenes (not just these) are improvised. I know there’s a script and actors are supposed to feel a certain way, so I’m sure it brings out things that weren’t initially meant to be there.
It’s prob hard enough for 1 person to write an entire show by themselves and try to put themselves in other peoples brains…so by improvising, it could def show a POV that the author or director never thought of. It makes the scenes better imo.
lowkey madoka magicas story arc relates to rue and jules so well
Everyone praises that so many scenes were improvised but sometimes watching them it just feels messy and drawn out, like the scene loses its purpose. I miss the scripted season 1 vibe
fireeeee 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Good luck if you think Sam Levinson just randomly let actors do their thing. LOL.
Even with the script💀💀

9:25 "Any and all ideas are welcome with the Euphoria team" Unless you're the only plus sized person on the show and don't want to play the role of the insecure fat girl all over again, I guess. Poor Barbie. She expressed basic boundaries and Sam didn't care. So when she refused to do the scenes, he cut her out of the season entirely. All because she didn't want to be type-casted and turned into the stereotypic fat girl. The whole season suffered because Sam was salty.
They were all type-casted lol.
@@itsjess2859 and? That doesn't make it okay lmao?? Kat's whole arc in season one was feeling more comfortable in her body, and Sam wanted to take all of that back and turn her right back into the insecure fat girl role all over again. I'd say no too if I'd put all of that work into being good representation for plus sized people, only for it to be ripped away, all because Sam has no originality when it comes to plus size characters.
Y'all serious be doing the most ,shootout to the narrator and thumbnail creator
wowwwww. so cool
RIP THAT ASHTRAY AYYYYE
It’s funny how Nate shamed Cassie for “hooking with your best friend’s ex” yet…..didn’t he do the same thing to McKay? Sure Cassie was wrong for hooking up with Nate because he’s Maddy’s ex, but Nate is also in the wrong for hooking up with McKay’s ex….and Maddy’s best friend, who happens to be Cassie. So everyone solely wants to laugh at Cassie and go after her for that, but barely anyone goes after Nate? They were both in the wrong, yet Cassie takes pretty much most of the blame meanwhile Nate was toxic, manipulative, and abusive…..
Zendaya slayed it! She played her role as Rue really good.
Sam fr wrote out kat due to creative differences he doesn't allow collaborations
The dress was SUPPOSED TO DROP BRO
Anyone else confused to why Suki Waterhouse was seen in the sequence about Maude improving the “behind the scenes” look???
Was that suki Waterhouse at 3:56?
5:12 what were they trying to do or imply, honestly i’m confused 🤔
6:20 what season and episode was this?
Sounds like the production was really unprofessional tbh.
Sometimes that’s the price for creativity
More Barbie Ferrera please, thanks!!!
I dislike how they basically pushed her storyline and her love life to the side making her break up with Evan who she clearly liked. Tf
Her teenage breakup is very realistic esp since she made him jump thru hoops in Season 1 anyways.
I don't understand HOW she broke up with Ethan. Season 1 Kat would have owned that scenario, sat him down and told him the truth. I don't understand the regression in Kats pursuit of self love
@@justinejustice_league1857
Girl same!
The writer(s) is/are doing her character dirty. Not to mention, the actress looked hella uncomfortable during that scene.
She was my favorite in Season 1.
She didn't like the direction they were putting her character in (they were going to give her an eating disorder), so she didn't stay on set a lot. That's why she lacked a lot of scenes this season.
Plus, we see with each episode she's in in Season 2 that she just doesn't love him. She doesn't know why but even if he's wonderful to her, she doesn't reciprocate. It happens.
The way she handled it was terrible, however.
Pretty sure this whole season was improvised. Sams off the lines and the beef writing this show it’s sad
