- Lyrics:
If you leave me now, youll take away the biggest part of me
No baby please dont go
If you leave me now, youll take away the very heart of me
No baby please dont go
A love like ours is love thats hard to find
How could we let it slip away
Weve come too far to leave it all behind
How could we end it all this way
When tomorrow comes well both regret
Things we said today
A love like ours is love thats hard to find
How could we let it slip away
Weve come too far to leave it all behind
How could we end it all this way
When tomorrow comes well both regret
Things we said today
If you leave me now, youll take away the biggest part of me
No baby please dont go
Oh girl, just got to have you by my side
No baby, please dont go
Oh mama, I just got to have your lovin, yeah
Weve come too far to leave it all behind - Hudba

Lovely song
I was 20 years old and my first love said she wanted to see other people. This song came out the same week. It was excruciating. After pining away for her and exercising for a full year I walked into a bar and saw a gorgeous brunette. She gave me two great kids and is asleep beside me 45 years later.
Beautiful, man!!
Love when ppl share these kind of stories that intertwine with the track I’m listening to. I can imagine all the emotions, music is a powerful thing.
well ya better wake that chick UP and have some fun !
Have a good life my good sir 🫡👍
I bet the first one is regretting that decision all these years later. We are dumb as teenagers, We thought, we knew it all... We had no clue .. Haha
Don't care what anyone says, the 70's produced the best music ever!
Without a doubt!
@@cindyw7270 Por favor, apoyen a mis músicos, como el amor que les he dado, les deseo siempre felicidad.
Yes the best ever
The 70's were cool, but the 80's were better

Was 15 when this beautiful song hit the airwaves... It is march 2024 now and still enjoying as it sent me back to my teens. 😢
Like many the 60s, 70s, 80s were the best years for songs and artists. The variety there for everyone. Something that this generation is in need of.❤️
These songs brings tears of joy and sorrow at the same time . Back when music had a heart and soul
exactly!❤
I was 17 when this song came on the radio. I'm so grateful to have spent my teenage years in the 70s. Would love to return!! Such a great time.
И я ТОЖЕ в начале 1970-х была 11-12-летней девочкой.
Meine Teenagejahre waren auch in den 70zigern Wir hatten eine sehr gute Zeit! Erinnerung an Fly, Robin, Fly
I'm sure glad to have lived in our era of great music. Also much better minds
I also was 17! The best of times.
Me too
one of the best things about 64 years old,is the fact that i lived my teenage years in the 70's that is priceless and I am grateful!!!
Michele Lomartire I just saw this post although I have listened to this a million times and I'm 48. I wish I could have been a teenager during that time. You are so spot on.! This is Priceless 😃
I will be 58 this year and I am thankful every day that I grew up with this music.
Same here
Hello Michelle. We are of the same generation..66 years old. These times were the best times of my live. !!!!
Reminds me of a family vacation, in Bailey Island, Maine Summer of ‘77. Girlfriend down in Boston area had just broken up with me. Reading books on a deck overlooking the Harpswell Sound and bummin’ out.
This was the song played at my High School Homecoming Dance that I had taken a beautiful girl name Mimi. Hearing this song always reminded me of her and just last month while visiting my mothers grave I noticed Mimi's gravestone just 2 graves away from my mothers. I was shocked at her untimely death and heart broken to see she had passed away and buried so close to my mother. Mimi had passed away 11 years ago while my mother had passed away 20 years ago. Even though we had not seen each other since High School I always thought of her and will always think of her when I hear this song.
you're a good man we owe you respect sorry for your loss
Sorry for your losses♥️🙏🏽
May they Rest In Peace🙏🏽♥️
😢😢
Awww man😞
This song has always fascinated me. Not because of the lyrics, but how the instruments are used so subtle and simple, yet so perfectly. An instrumental masterpiece.
I agree!
I believe it's a perfect song! Nothing can be added to improve it's beauty. Takes you somewhere else everytime, and has enough interesting chords to keep you in the vibe.
Yes the use of a rhythm guitar in a world of electric guitars was inspired
Their manager and producer won an Emmy for the arrangement. I think Pete should have won one as the writer and composer not to mention performer.
Especially the trombone.
Possibly one of the most perfect songs ever crafted. Timeless.
It really is just fantastic. The melodies intertwined within the arrangement. The subtle use of brass, the incredibly immersive lyrics that just take you away. Let alone the melody/hook that is just one of those truly catchy songs. So much emotion within it.
Magical ❤the memories are magic too
Love this song. Still my fave 47 years later.

Peter Cetera’s voice is incredible…..just shoots through the soul.❤
Yes it does
I so agree
Does have a calming affect.
His guitar sounds pretty good too!
There's a Russian group that does Chicago covers, dare I say it but could arguably be even better.
This 1976 hit doesn't age much. This is TIMELESS until 2021 and still counting!
The best music is timeless, the message might fade but the rhythms never will
I get what you’re saying but this song is pretty old 45 years
@@ianelder1648 Yeah, time waits for no one, time and time again; I do think it's important to remember the past, but if it's bad, don't dwell on it, at least that's what I think:-). Chicago here, well, I DEFINITELY think that's good!
They played this track from Chicago in discos in the 80s, many a slow dance was had by this. Timeless song.
Watching it now.💖💖💖
Here in 2022. Great music never dies 🙏🏿
I was 4 years old when this came out. My parents were going through a divorce. My dad was in the basement, crying like a baby and playing this over and over. Till this day he doesn't know I saw him at one the lowest most heartbreaking moments of his life. I love both my parents but I'm glad he eventually found someone who he didn't have to play this for again. He just listens to it now because, again, great music never dies 🙏🏿
Exactement..belle chanson .

If this song was released today, it could easily break the record of the longest stay at number 1
No matter what era, this diamond of a song is purely timeless.
Indeed
+mattyhasselhoff Totally agree. Like the saying goes, they just make music like this nowadays.
It may not happen Bae. Remember Peter Cetera in his own way "Was" Chicago. In the 1980's under David Foster's Tutelage, they had hit after hit, from Hard To Say I'm Sorry, You're The Inspiration, and it got to be Peter Cetera & Chicago. They still did well with songs like "Look Away" but to some fans the magic ended to a degree when Peter left.
Yes! Thanks so much for reminding me. David Foster is so amazing. I remember around 2001 when I was watching POPSTARS and boy the Man didn't "Play". He was demanding, a perfectionist, he knew who had it and who didn't. I remember when he played The Piano and he gave the Contestants A "Girl You Better Not Waste My Time" Look.
Oh my God I know right
40 years later and it sounds just as good as it did then. The 70's were the greatest decade for music!
racingdodger55 greatest decade for everything
70s 80s 90s greatest Decades and even the early 2000s
I grew up in the 70’s having the best of music from all groups not like today, and I’m taking a lot away from them because the oldies background singers were also good enough to be lead singers.
Not really, where I come from (New York City) there was a Plague in the 70's called disco..though I have come to like some of it now : /

I was 11 when this came out and remember first hearing this out in a store with my mum she smiled at me as I said I loved this song shes passed on now but memories of that day will stay with me forever best days of my life I wish I could go back life was better in the 70s ! 😢❤😪🙏
I'm by myself.....anyone🥵🥺
I was 6 years old when this charted. It moved me then the same way it moves me today. I became a HUGE Chicago fan in the mid 80's during their ' comeback ', but the Greatest Hits II cassette with this song got the most attention. During my crazy single 20's, I played this as my late night guilty pleasure, drunk ,alone, sing along . Married with a career into my 30's, I took advantage of technology and downloaded every Chicago album, through 18, onto my ipod(!) , enjoying every period of their incredible catalog of progressive jazz/prog rock to .....disco?...
Something about this song, though, always makes me stop and start singing. My wife of 22 happily married years wonders why such a melancholy song would make me so emotionally HAPPY.
It's just the SONG.... It's perfect
I was 12 when this came out now I'm 53 wow what a change in music God bless the 1970s
me too. Same age as yourself. When this song played, I broke up with my g/f. This song brings me right back to the time. Like a time machine.
56 here. I danced with my first girlfriend in Jr. High to this song. And just a couple of days ago I sang this song to my girlfriend before she had to fly back to the UK to tend to her ailing mother. Her and I are going to find a way to stay together even though we are 4500 miles apart.
While I like modern music the 70's spoke volumes about how to express your true feeling to the one you love.
It isn't music anymore. I wasn't alive in the 70s but the 70s and 80s were very much alive and kicking during my childhood. This is real music.

It's one of those songs. In my adolescence I thought it was OK. Listening to it again after more than 40 years, I realise it is a masterpiece.
Wonder why you weren't able to grasp that in your youth
If the emotion didn't get you first time, you missed the whole point. You must have been one of those rare creatures - a well-balanced and happy teenager. This song killed me, I was just 13, starting boarding school and missing home
i am 60 and cant believe where the time went ?? i look back and think we had so much great music x
Hi Rachel 💐💐
Music from the 70's and the 80's touched your heart, allowed you to express your love to your soulmate, and had meaning behind their lyrics! Music today doesn't even get close to what and how we felt and enjoyed during those times.
Some of it does, less, but some does if you’re willing to look
well said.
Love. This song so much love the lead singer sex on legs

Amazing, indeed!
Actually he could have used auto tune here.
I am 47 and when I look at this crazy world now I feel sorry for the young people of this generation. We were so much at ease and free when I was a kid. We could run, play and ride bikes and did not have to worry about getting kidnapped. The whole neighborhood stood together and watched all the kids when they roamed. Such a wonderful time. It is a little sad for me when I listen to the music because so many people I loved, friends and family, are now gone. Just 24 hours to be young and care free again. I remember my parents and the extended family being so young and dancing to these songs.
Very true Sherry....
Beautiful Sherry
Yes, I'm 51 and feel the same way. I was 10 years old when this came out, and life was so simple and fun back then.
Yeahh! We didn't have all the eletronics that have turned this new generation so indoor ...tasteless for good music and the world was much much more peaceful.. despite the Cold War .... Vietnam War
it does take a community to raise a child.
I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.
After Peter left Chicago they have NEVER had a replacement singer as good as Peter !!!
Really?! You have an very unique taste though 😂
Replace Peter with Terry and your statement is more accurate

I'm a millennial, this song was before my time, but i love it. It reminds me of the most precious thing i ever had in my life.. My mom. She use to sing it all the time. So this song stays in my heart where she remains eternally.

I'm so glad I was born in 1958. I wouldn't change a thing.
September of 1958 for me and I agree.
I was. Kid in the 70s and a teenager in the 80s. Chicago was a great band. 70s & 80s were the best decades for music 🎶.
I’m 59. I did all me high school in the 70s. If I have to choose a decade to spend my teenage years again, it will be 70s over and over a million times.
Class of 74 here, couldn’t agree more
Graduated from high school in 1981, so I experienced the best of the 70s, and 80s. Those two decades had a lot of great music. I definitely feel sorry, for these Millennials.
Me too! I was class of 86 but the 70’s was the best decade

Do it, brougham!!! Give us that gift!!!
This song has made me cry since I was a little girl. I vaguely remember hearing it on the radio as a preschooler, when we lived in a two-bedroom apartment in the projects. My one memory of this song was when my brother and sister’ dad took my mom and us to her father’s gravesite, and she couldn’t find it. Then we drove around the neighborhood…My mom is gone, their dad is gone, and the neighborhood has changed so much. It’s just sad how the older you get the more people you lose
Ughhh, That voice!!! This surely is a timeless hit. I can never just listen to it once. I have to have it on repeat for a while and just let it sink in. Peter Ceteras voice captivates you. Definitely one of my top 10 best of all time. I'm 51 now and glad to have been alive during it's release. ❤

Music does not get any better than this, wow
My favorite Chicago song. Peter has great vocals for this song.
Agreed!!
If he really wrote it, a complex chordal arrangement. Of course, beautiful vocal. Writing pussy whipped apology songs can make one a lot of money, and get you a lot of tail. John Lennon caught on to this when he wrote, “Woman”. The guitar gods are skillful, but when I look out at their crowds, it is all men. I would rather play to women whose panties are soaking from my songs. There might be a treat for me later too.
Peter has great vocals for any song.

Over 40 years ago but I remember this like it was yesterday - some performances just stay with you. Peter Cetera, so expressive and watchable - lovely hair too! Beautiful, heart-rending song with a sublime orchestral blend, yet managing a focus on the guitars - a real masterpiece. Sheer class 💜🇬🇧
Great version! Cetera killing it! Hard song to sing too!
Having spent the weekend away with my then boyfriend in 1976, going home, this song came on the radio and at the time, I thought I was losing him to a former girlfriend. Two nights later, I told him that if he chose to leave me, he was making the biggest mistake he could possibly make. Instead, he proposed. We got married March 18, 1977 before he was depoyed to Israel on UN Peacekeeping duty. We would have been married 45 years this year. I lost him to lung cancer, February 2, 2015, 44 days short of our 38th anniversary. Oh how I miss him.

I am here❤
Always loved this song, although i was born in 1979. Music from the seventies is the best ❤️
I was three years old when this came on the t.v. and i can still remember to this day that what riveted me to the spot, was the presence of all the other instrumentalists. I can also remember walking and sitting right next to the speaker, as to ( in my mind) hear all the instruments better & how they blended in with the vocal. That held me in good stead in later years when i worked with music ( my own and other people's) and with other musicians.
It remained one of my favourite songs for years, and even when i became old enough to realise it's a plea and quite an angst laden lyric, the music never failed to move me. That remains to this day.
Tenho 63 anos, Vivi tudo isso, simplesmente fantástico. Agradeço a Deus por ter vivido tudo isso. 🙏🙏
So many parts of the is song are beautiful.
The strings, the brass exclamations, the lyrics.
Such a distinctive voice. Love Cetera and Chicago!
This is a beautiful song. Thank God we had the 70s. I was teenager then and I loved this music. My parents called it noise.
But what a lovely "noise!"
The BEST ...MY.GOD!!!!!.
THIS IS THE WORLD SHOULD BE...LOVE LOVE ALL THE WAY❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
