For those that are not aware, he mentioned you can access the original Pac-Man on this cabinet too. Here is the code to do so.
From the "Press Start" screen, move the joystick in this pattern. U, U, U, D, D, D, L, R, L, R, L. If done correctly you will hear the free man chime and the red ghost monster will turn pink. Finally, press start.
There is also another code to toggle the speed chip temporarily. If the operator turned it off on default, entering the code will turn it on. If the operator turned it on, entering this code will turn it off. L, R, L, R, U, U, U, FIRE. If done correctly, you will hear the eaten fruit sound.

$300-500 would be fair broad market value for that repair. $100 an hour for the technician, and the rest for parts and overhead. Billing a college brings it up to $1500. We have to get those kid's money back; but jokes aside, that would be fair value in that sector of the market. ;)

      @TheLomdr Před rokem

@@mercuryvapoury Yeah, I get that, though of course many games (mostly of the redemption variety) don't have a power switch, so they get unplugged instead. As for why a place might leave an Out of Order machine on the floor, they either don't have the space in the tech room/zone (if they have one) or it's not worth the hassle to cart a machine off the floor to replace a single part that's on order. If I was an owner/manager, I'm not sending my guys out to remove a 242 pound Pinbot machine just so the tech can replace the right flipper switch or button housing, for example.

YESS! Arcade machine repair! I love these even if they're short. I also love pinball repairs if they're the newer modern kinds but i like all the videos you do. I think a repair like this is $250 easy, could go up some too maybe even $300. CRTs are like niche fragile things that are complex and dangerous to work on, you should be paid well for it! I don't think a 25 inch hurts Galaga and Ms. Pacman but I think the 19 is just better, imo. I use continues a lot because i don't really think it's "cheating", how is a built-in game feature that costs money cheating? It's just about having fun imo. Anyway, great video! Ms Packman looked a bit curved or stretched in the corners when you pointed it out before you played. You gotta use the tractor beam in Galaga, c'mon now!!!! The code is even implanted into the machine itself i have always thought about what it would be like to own one of these reunion cabinets in real life hopefully they don't cost a lot or are super expensive and since these are from and where made in 2001 I'm sure that the price for these machines have gone up but still though it would be nice to own one of these in real life

Great repair job. The best I've ever managed on the arcade rendition of Galaga was level 33, and I definitely had to use the double shot. You'd have to be insanely good to survive the later levels with the single shot, since there will be so many enemies left in formation.
I think the 25 inch monitor is neutral/helps for Galaga, and slightly hurts Ms. Pac-Man.
I don't continue on score attack games like these two, but I would on something like Rolling Thunder, where there are levels to go through and more of the game to see.

interesting fact. Namco was not happy about Mrs. Pac-Man because it was done by a outside company named GCC. when Midway put out Jr. Pac-Man Namco got pissed off again because it was done by GCC. prompted Namco to cut tied with Bally Midway.
when this cab came out. one of the guys from GCC saw one while on vacation or something and was like. where is my damn cut on this? GCC busted Namco's ass over royalty of the Classic Of 81' coin up version. they had to made a new deal. 2 decades later. Bandi Namco had a meltdown when GCC gave the royalty rights to Mrs. Pac-Man to AtGames. both AtGames and BN sued each other but both suits got thrown out of court.

Interesting behavior. Ms. Pac-Man moves far too fast, which reminds me of the speed she moved at in the episode of Game Center CX where Arino plays Ms. Pac-Man in a launderette. The original arcade game from 1981 does not have that speed. Probably Namco didn't know about the original hardware since it was actually made by Bally-Midway. "Push Start to Continue" is also new... used to be three lives (+ bonus) and game over, no exceptions. Also, the high score seems to have a battery backup, since I know neither of you guys scored 630750!

Ron, I respect you, man. But watching you play Galaga almost gave me a headache. Back in the day, teenage me would have considered himself a master at that game. Dual ship, rapidly smashing that fire button as fast as possible, mowing through those enemies most times before they could even fly into formation. Dodging and weaving enemies and shots with ease including zooming over top of the blue bees when they did that loop. And getting a Perfect on every one of the challenge stages. That was routine for me. No hacks needed. Note: Old me hasn't played a "real" Galaga cabinet for years, and I don't include playing it on that Multicade when I visited your shop a couple of years ago. But if I load it up on MAME on my PC I can still rock it though not quite as good. I need that short 2 way joystick to get the best feel for controlling the ship. Playing a Multicade with that larger 8 way does not feel right.
The "bulls***" about the high score is that those players were not good enough to get 999990 then kill off their ships so that no one could get anything higher and they could reign supreme at the top. At least until someone reset the high score list.
    For the questions:
Cost: Not much in labor and depends upon how much that flyback costs, I suppose. $300-400?
Larger monitor: Screw that and give me the original. I played one of those "World's Largest Pacman/Galaga" games once and only made it to around level 40ish because I could not see everything. I was getting a little frustrated with it. Totally agree. You need to see which enemies are coming and where they launch from to process your next move.
Continue: Just a money grabber. No "real" Galaga player would ever consider a continue.
And no, I'm not an arrogant jerk about how good I was at the game. I'm just commenting that way for a bit of fun. Though teenage me was a little bit beyond smug at how well he could play it.

With space games and Pac Man and the like with the dark background, the burn in isn't so bad, as long as the monitor isn't cranked up too high.

I have that exact machine and the screen stopped working a while ago. The place i bought it from wants an estimated $600.00 to fix. By fix, they said they would replace the crt with a new flat monitor. I paid $700 for the machine itself. Do you think its worth doing that. Any advise would be helpful.

There is a setting in the test menu on this game to make her eat fast or regular speed.

No hour meter on arcade games, they do have a coin counter tho so it will give you a good idea unless its been on freeplay

I know you don't want to hear this, but you're not that great a player. What I would do differently is... Well, I'd play MUCH worse than you, and make you look good by comparison! ;-) See what I did there?
