The Wolf of Wall Street - Jordan Gets Caught

- Thought I'd post this scene on CZcams. It's towards the end of the film where Jordan has to wear a wire and he lets his associate Donnie know what he's doing. This eventually leads him to get caught by the FBI. Enjoy!

I can't believe Jordan was smart enough to literally take over Wall Street but too dumb to burn an incriminating piece of paper.
No he wasnt dumb. He just trusted the wrong people. Everyone loved Jordan. But as soon as he couldnt make them any money anymore they fucked him over
MR timminon Then Jordan should’ve known that since he was EXACTLY the same type of person. He should’ve known in that situation not to fully trust anyone.
MR timminon wait who fucked him over?

Donnie betrayed jordan???.
Damn this is a sad scene. You can see in Jordan‘s eyes how much he cares about Donnie and you can see in Donnie‘s eyes how sad he is that he’s done what he has done.
Lol No they are sad that they are caught, not for what they’ve done lol
@@petermj1098 no, meaning that Donnie is sad at what he’s done as in ratting out his best friend. Hence the “I’m going to hell” when they were in the storm. He wasn’t repenting being a stealing degenerate. He was afraid of going to hell for being a Judas.

All the fucker had to do was write: "I'm wearing a wire. Eat this note."
no donny sold him out so that wouldn't have worked
RandRWargaming How do you figure? If Jordan had the prudence to insist on the note's destruction and Donnie refused to eat it, then Jordan would've been suspicious and destroyed it himself.
except that the wire would have picked up the sound of paper being crunched in his mouth so he would have had to be away from donnie for him to get rid of it at which time he would haave done the same thing that he did
RandRWargaming lol The sound of paper being crunched wouldn't prove anything. The evidence would be gone.
Donnie was a rat. There's always a rat, question is who catches the rat first.
Believe it or not, in the book, belford was a bigger scumbag than in the movie
Daniel afg I wouldn't say it glorified him. Scorsese trusted that the audience would come to their own conclusion about Belford.
Yet people even when they know the full story still look up to him. I mean did you see the crowd at the end of the movie? I feel like deep down everyone is just as shitty as Belfort but never got the chance to show that to people cuss they never got fame and money like Belfort did.
TheLaughIndustry I think you're right , we are all jordan bellford but he had the balls to take 2 of the 3 keys to success and twist it.
1. Be first.
2. Be smarter.
3. Cheat.
It's a great film.
He was caught because he wasn't clever, big or connected enough in how he steals from people.
It had nothing to do with morals.
None of those CEOs and managers that destroyed the economy in 2007-2009 ever got in trouble except a brown person and a couple small fish.
Don't ever think they catch these guys because they care about morals.
It's a show, a distraction. This is a full blown plutocracy.

Jordan looked out for him and Donnie out of all people, screwed him over. No honor among thieves
+2Good2BeTrue45 It makes me wonder if teh FBI had an "in" on Donnie also. Like At the same time Jordan was being questioned, they had Donnie also.

I loved this movie but I hate the fact that it glorified such a scumbag. This movie launched a new career for Belfort.
+radiationbacon People don't think rationally when money is involved. It's an animalistic instinct, just take as much as you can before you get stopped. It's a snowball effect really.
CoDWiiPS3Gameplay honestly I agree. After watching interviews with the guy I believe he's an alright guy, but got introduced into the wrong people and quoting him "slowely pushed over my line of ethics". But I'm 100% agreement with you, he lost control, especially considering the heavy amounts of drugs he did. It was definitely a snowball effect
+radiationbacon you basically justify and excuse his behavior. He's a scumbag. No excuses needed. He basically robbed a lot of people from their life savings and went crazy with greed doing it. Stop trying to humanize his behavior.
And for any of you that say he paid his victims, I highly doubt his victims have gotten back much more than pennies on the dollar from what he stole.
But I'm sure if they made a movie of Bernie Nadoff being played by someone like Jack Nicholson, you guys would all find ways to excuse his actions.
+FrankReynolds, Paddys Pub, CEO I'm honestly not trying to justify his actions. but just trying to explain what I think happened. He had no excuse for what he did. he did some really fucked up shit. I agree. I'm just trying to give my 2 cents on how he got into that scenario in the first place. but yeah, i agree with you
radiationbacon I just don't buy into him being an "alright guy" today. A big reason why he was able to swindle so much money in his hay day was because of his personality. He seemed to be a real charismatic guy. Be wary of those types of people. They are very persuasive and can make you believe just about anything.
Some things:
Donnie does indeed betray them all. In an early copy of the script, it is heavily implied. Due to some editing, it's a lot more subtle. In the yacht sinking scene, Donnie half confesses but is interrupted by "the ludes".
Secondly, he's deleting in anticipation of the FBI coming in and isn't being taken away like the others. His hands are in his head while this happens. He knows what's going on. If he wasn't in on it, he would have been yelling and screaming like the others. Now obviously in a real situation he would have already cleared his stuff before they even came, but to show him doing it before they come in shows he knew before hand: the result is the same.
Third, the note was in their office. Not some restaurant as some people mistake. It shouldn't have gone anywhere, not even the trash can. It's probably intact because Donnie said he would take care of it: obviously, we can't confirm this, but the fact remains that the note is in pristine condition when presented.
Also, the note itself isn't enough to incriminate Jordan. They have no proof he wrote it, nor if it was related to him at all. The only way it could be proof is if someone submitted it. The only person who could do such a thing was Donnie.
Lastly: in real life (and in the books), the note didn't really matter. They practically let it slide.
Your list makes no sense. If he was in with the FBI, he would have nothing to delete at that time, he would already have deleted it or handed it over. He was only deleting it now because he was informed by Jordan.
If he wanted to give the note, he would have clean his shit before doing it.
If he knew about it when Jordan told him not to incriminate himself, he would have to be a good actor to act the way he did, which would be out of character for his character. If the script writers wanted to imply he was in it, than that makes the scene terribly directed.
huh. that's interesting

Exactly, this movie is so amazing because they show their highest moments and then their Lowest in a split of seconds
Nobody tells these stories as well as Martin Scorsese
A story of greatness or a story of tragedy are always great
I would have thought the FBI listening to the wire, would have picked up Donny's change of mood. There he is "It's great to have you back..." all excited and happy, then suddenly - once he reads the note - he goes monosyllabic and hardly saying a thing. That would surely have raised their suspicions that JB would have told him.
the FBI can suspect but that's not evidence, so it would't be able to be used to incriminate either of them
I never said it was evidence, but surely it would have at least made them suspect is all I am saying.
Royal Fool He already was a suspect. That's why Jordan is wearing a wire to collect evidence on him
Jack Windrammer
My point was though you would think they would have picked up Donnie's change of mood and therefore suspected that Jordan had informed him somehow about the wire.
Mind you, I am getting a bit too complex for what really is at best a "light" film.
Royal Fool They end up finding the note anyways so it's kind of a moot point

Good thing rich people don’t get punished, I guess.
I'm reading the comments on how Donnie was the one who ratted on Jordan first and it makes sense. Donnie's mood changed after seeing the note because he realized he really did betray a loyal friend. And seeing how Jordan was willing to risk himself for his best friend while Donnie was okay giving everyone and everything up made him realize what a shitty person he was. Just my thought

- Henry Hill (Goodfellas)
It's amazing how similar the parallels were between Jordan Belfort wearing a wire and Henry Hill dining with Jimmy Burke in The Goodfellas.
They come at you at your lowest point

@@ProbablyCheco Ion blame you tho shit that's why I stay to myself🤣
A lot of wire situations are involving people who can and will kill you if they know you have association with law enforcement especially law enforcement resourceful enough to set up a sting.
Donnie ratted on Jordan long before this. The whole boat in a thunderstorm scene is pretty brilliant script writing and revealed it. Donnie makes a halfway confession, the whole thing was a ruse to catch Jordan and now Donnie feels he is being punished for betraying Jordan. The agents needed him on the phone to gather proof. Just the way Jordan compliments how he was sold the pen at the dinner they created a "sense of urgency" to sell the trap. The agents used Donnies friend suddenly making a move against Jordan financially to gather that evidence.
There is no proof that Donnie fucked him over. If that was the case, the producers would have showed it in subsequent scenes. Jordan and Donnie probably forgot about the paper, or they didn’t expect FBI to search the premises. The producers wouldn’t have kept the audience in the dark. its open ended theres no proof of that
@@evoke97 I disagree. Donnie turned over the warning note Jordan passed himto the investigators. There is also a segment where Jordan is narrating how noone cracked and gave over information while interviewed. If you notice everyone but Donnie is shown in this montage.
@@casucasueq4479 im not saying you're wrong but theres no actual proof you're right either
@@evoke97 I suppose you are correct that its not just obviously given to the audience. Agreed. it could be found there or whatsoever
according to the book this movie is based off of, donnie didn't rat him out. they found the note when they raided his office.
In the script for the movie, Donnie slips the note into his pocket. When the FBI shows the note Belfort says in a voiceover, "Donnie Azoff, my partner. My best
friend." This scene was cut.
Yes i saw an interview with jordan and he said they combined several characters into one and it wasnt donnie (real name danny) who turned him in. They did find the note though that part is true
Me too, i just assumed they found it somehow.
The look DiCaprio gives him when he realizes he has to eat that yellowtail 😅
This is similar to the diner scene in Goodfellas. They’re both the moments before betrayal. In Goodfellas, Henry feels betrayed when he realises Jimmy was sending him off to get whacked while posing as his friend leading to Henry ratting him out. Here Donnie feels betrayed about Jordan wearing a wire and hence rats him out even though Jordan was just looking out for him. It’s a neat parallel between the two films.
He dodnt rat they found it
@@gabriel7932 no Donnie does indeed rat on Jordan. That’s why he was deleting files on the computer while the FBI raided Stratton Oakmont. He knew they were coming and was trying to appeal for a lighter sentence.

Now this right here is a true friend. He didn't give his friends up for anything.

My favourite movie of all time
instead of pressing enter and delete, i would have just put magnets on my harddrive or just destroy the computer
+Pointl Ess Yeah if you delete a file without replacing it with something else (about 7 times for good measure, per the NSA) , surely an FBI tech can find the original deleted files. But the FBI was already there. If he had tried to purposely destroy his computer, it would have added additional charges of Evidence Tampering and probably Obstruction of Justice.
Normal Magnets won't completely destroy a hard drive. Even an Electromagnet probably wouldn't. The one way the assure HD destruction is to put it in the microwave.
Let's say that a hacker fears that the police might one day bust in and they will have to quickly destroy all evidence. This is extreme, but the easiest homemade method is to get a obtain a small amount of Thermite and position it onto of your hard drive. Since Thermite is extremely stable, and will not start to react even at temperatures above 1000 degrees, it will not go off unless you mean it to.
So you buy a model rocket engine launcher, some Sparklers and hook the model rocket launcher to a rocket blast cap (hobby shops have these) and attach that to the business end of the Sparkler. Place the Sparkler in the Thermite, and if the Fuzz comes knocking you can hit one button (or turn a key and hit the button) and the Thermite will burn right through the Hard drive. (Note: this was for education and hypothetical purposes. I am not advocating that you do anything that I wrote about).
