Nice tribute to a great artist also known as La Superba. Truly a voice for the ages.
As a matter of historical accuracy please note that her fabled substitution for Marilyn Horne occurred at Carnegie Hall during a concert version of Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti and not the Metropolitan Opera. If you want to experience the magic of that evening in 1965 it’s available in CZcams. Look up the aria “ Com’é bello “

She was Catalan, not Spanish. She was amazing. I was so lucky to see her so many times.

Catalunya is a province of Spain, sure, reluctantly. But if you had spoken to Montse or Pep Carreras, as I have, you will know that Montse considered herself Catalan, after she was legally able to do so.

@@miloowen1 Not really. All her life Caballè was proud of her Catalonian ancestry as she should have been but she would be the first one to disagree with statements such as “ she was not Spanish”. Only Putin fueled Catalonian separatists will make such comments. Please stop misleading the world.
( BTW, the correct term in English is Catalonian and not Catalan)

Elizabeth Garcia Assumptions are misleading. I've lived & worked in the operatic world, I've known personally a number of great artists, and have traveled to Spain and Catalunya for professional reasons any number of times. JJ Lungdoc Putin is a dictator, just as Franco was, to call the Catalan independence movement Putin sponsored is to be profoundly ignorant of Catalan history under Franco as well as modern politics. As we say in the former colonies, don't teach your granny to suck eggs. Visca Catalunya!

@@miloowen1 Looks like my comment stung you. Good!
Your comment about “ ignorance” is funny because you don’t know what I know. Talk about assumptions can be misleading as you said.
      BTW did I defend Franco?
      No way!
      End of this discussion.
I have made my point clear and see no reason to prolong discussion.
¡ Viva España and Catalonian people who do not follow Putin!
