- Ah, the good ole days of Tech TV...Remember "Fresh Gear" ?
Several months after the successful launch of the Gameboy Advance; Nintendo had big plans to improve on its previous add-on for the Gameboy Pocket called GameBoy Camera. The Gameboy Advance "Game Eye" would've been the successor to its predecessor. Game Eye would not only allow you to store your own pics you'd take; but also allow you to incorporate your own images into Gamecube / GBA games!
At the time "Game Eye" was considered a prototype with plans
to release it in Japan. Well sadly Game Eye never came to mass
market, at all.
The same can be said about the the official Nintendo Gamecube
LCD screen. No officialinformation has been given as to why the portable LCD screen never released for Gamecube. But 3rd party accessory developers like Interact jumped on the idea complete with a 90-minute battery back-up docking station to make the Gamecube console fully portable! - Hry
One of the gadgets foreshadows the Mii series.
The Game Eye idea was influenced by the Game Boy Camera, and later influenced the built-in cameras of the Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL and the upcoming Nintendo 3DS.
This just shows you how fast things changed with the price drop of LCD's and how phones change so rapidly. Thanks for posting!
Mobile games were just starting to get big then... now they're oversaturating the market with idiotic paid microtransactions.
But... but... but you'll be able to _download _*_MORE_*_ levels from the web_
BurnRoddy shut up xD
To be honest, if it weren't for the phones oversaturating on the market, we wouldn't have the Nintendo Switch and also thanks to the mobile tech world, technology has improved so much aswell as the fact that gaming laptops have become a norm and more affordable than they used to be back in the days.
Very awesome, and retro. I remember those LCD screens everywhere.
Old tech is just as interesting as future tech. Life was more simple back then :3
Those little screens are actually more useful than I thought (least for the time). CRTs are huge so for lan parties those must've been a life saver
true xD
i never saw tech tv before, but if all this stuff is from tech tv, now i understand why people always said g4 sucked.
It always struck me as ironic that the GBA had virtually no competitors yet it sold considerably less than the original Game Boy and DS, which competed with the Sega Game Gear and PSP respectively. Nonetheless, it's still my favourite handheld to date.
So much has changed in such a small amount of time . . .
0:19 oh yeah.
Audio is a little out of sync, but I don't hear that skipping anymore.
Thanks for re-posting!
I wish the Game Eye came out
What's the Game Eye @Helloz World?
It was like a mii prototype that let you have customized people do wierd stuff i think lol
hard to believe how far we have come from then
0:19 METROID FUSION!! This is probably the first time that we see the navigation room in an early state!
Omg...........those phones!!!! I just wanna go back in time & throw our modern phones in their faces!!!!!!
phones are the same now
*****
Now that I look at it...... Your kinda right but I was talking both graphics and technology wise.
i was joking
@bodyboarder3452
The one Nintendo was showing off was actually quite different. That one they didn't tell anybody at the time was a 3D LCD that would display certain games in 3D without the need of glasses.
2:50 So that was the real vision of the Gamecube with its handle. Everyone carrying their gamecubes around with built in screens and batteries.
InterAct Acessories I miss you dudes.
I love this.
To think a lot of us lived to see these lcd screen add-ons evolve into the Nintendo Switch where the screen alone is the console.
Look how much tech has changed in 10 years lol
i love looking back to not so distant past!
2:50
"and youre ready to game on the go..."
i may be an old school gamer, but i still prefered to play a GBA on the go, its WAY smaller than that XD
Now we have PSPs and NDSs so i guess weve managed to make those PS2s and gamecubes a bit smaller :) Good ol' times...
worm cam!
this is soo cool
I feel so old...
The early 00's were the dying days of what was left of the 90's.
Yeah, a very sad time. :(
FACTS!
oooo colour screen cell phones!!! I can't wait!!
so interesting !
Used to love Fresh Gear. Sumi Das works for a local FOX NEWS station. I saw her reporting on I think New Orleans Hurricane Katrina.
One other Techtv girl is not the CBS The Early Show. I forgot her name she was on Tech Live and then she went to CNN and now on CBS The Early Show.
@Nintendomanwill - That's funny. I was at E3 2002 and I shot footage of that
portable Gamecube LCD screen. There was nothing to indicate the screen having
stereoscopic 3-D features. It was just Nintendo's VERY OWN portable screen
similar to the Sony's VERY OWN PSone portable screen.
@Groooveraider, where can I find that video of your GC LCD footage? I've been looking for footage on that thing for AGES, but so far I've had no luck. :( In an Iwata asks interview, Mr. Satorusan confirmed that a GameCube peripheral would plug in to allow stereoscopic support. The GameCube itself (All models) are capable of rendering it, but need the LCD peripheral to produce it. It was stated in many cases "It would plug into your TV" but I don't take this literally, but rather figuratively. I believe it was capable of connecting to your TV through the A/V cables, S-Video etc. since he said the GameCube had circuitry that could process 3D already. I believe that the LCD peripheral containing the necessary crystal would connect to something much more significant.
That woman's name is Panther??? Cool!
@Grooveraider It could display glasses free 3D. Check out Iwata Asks sections at nintendo's website. Go to Vol. 2: Nintendo 3DS Hardware Concept then click on Luigi's Mansion 3D that never was.
wow, tbt for sure !!!
Penguins On The Moon 🐧
"The 9210 communicator" 😅
i used an E-reader, it was an amusing gimmick
Wow Gameloft. they go WAY back.

On 2:53 if you slightly below the top right corner you see Rayman.
Hahaha that portable skateboard cellphone game wasnt that bad I remember it downloading free or something of my parents phone away back.
lol, lcd's on game consoles I remember that. ^_^ Those were all the rage in the early 2000's Of course with the Wii U, it now a thing of the past...for nintendo anyway(unless they change their mind the following gen).
i had the gc screen ! it broke several times,. pos the yellow rca part lol
At 1:02 that is disturbing....
The blonde at the 00:20 mark is super fine.
0:43 never seen this before
I didn't know gameloft was around back then
Matt Killam Yeah, they were from the most popular companies that made original qualitative games for mobile phones. Unfortunately most of their smartphone games today are either soulles rip-offs of popular console games or generic casual f2p games.
@c0al i had it for the gamecube and it never worked it always had a weird image, and i got a second replacement one and it also didn't work -.-
@ChibiFighter yeah techtv was good.
