How We Shear Llamas Standing

  • How we shear a llama ; a few tips and tricks! This is a llama from a rescue that is not handled often. Most llamas we shear are not touchable or halter broken. This guy spends all his time in the pasture and this was our first encounter. As a side note, we use this with all camelids we shear and never use sedation. This can be very dangerous work and we do not recommend trying this without the guidance and supervision of an experienced mentor.

This is similar to a particular dog groomer whose channel I watch in that they both understand the animal's body language, know from prior experience what's going to happen when they process a particular part of the animal (like its legs), and do their best to build trust with the animal. So they're both good at what they do, whether it's grooming a huge Alaskan Malamute dog or a skittish llama.

Missed you Katie and Darien !! Hope you are doing well and I appreciate the newer, longer videos that educate, but I know they take so much longer to film and edit. Other sites seem to only focus on how fast the sheep and llamas are sheared. I know you are so capable of incredible shearing speed, but learning from you is so appreciated !! I am blessed with a horse, 2 dogs and 2 goats. So, thanks for the extra chat. I know you have to be fast movers with season coming up- take care with these awful temperatures. Be well !!
