the sound of autechre scrolling through their sample library super fast

This is one of their most underrated albums, fun as hell to listen to.
yeh it's my 3rd favourite i can't believe more people can't hear it.
This is one of their best albums imo
Glad to hear you praise this one, absolutely my favourite of theirs from the 00s. I've heard people say it's their coldest, least organic listen, but I think the coldness of it gives the sparse, warm melodies a lot more room to breathe, it's a beautiful contrast. And we share the same fav tracks here!! Great stuff
That bit where the track opens up at about 5 and a half minutes into Ipacial Section... some of their best work. Totally agreed
@@surroundgatari Chills every time the thrumming-machine series of notes comes up. It's one of the most transcendent hold-still-with-eyes-closed, fully absorptive moments in their catalogue.
this is their best album imho classic album all around
It certainly is one of the top 3 - i love it.
i absolutely love listening you talk about autechre because you put things i've thought for years into words. love your channel
this one i really need to be in the mood for but when I am its is a straight 9/10 for me, it slams
Untilted is my all time favorite Autechre album. The complex layers of sound in some of the songs, and the way they gave a progression of notes to sounds that other groups would just repeat over and over is a mastery of music. It has moments that just hit me so hard, blasting into moments that jump at me but also entertain to such a degree. I feel like I could go on and on about this album. An under looked classic of electronic music, usually voted out of Autechre’s best by critics more interested in their more mainstream releases.
To me, this album is cold in a genius way. That mood makes every instrumental feel monumental to the track, and I'm usually swayed away from long track runtime but each track progresses very satisfyingly, adding a slight twist every 30 seconds to keep the current sounds from wearing on my sanity. It's really compelling, thank you for the review.
My favourite Æ album along with LP5.
One of my favourites. Maybe even my favourite, I don't know if I prefer it to Tri Repetae though.
really looking forward to your reviews of all the live recordings
sorry to disappoint you but I'm flat out not covering AE_LIVE. that's 28 hours of music and I do not have the patience for that much material from anyone
I tried to remember what Untilted sounded like, thought I did, then played some to confirm, yes, I still remember what this one sounds like. :) I like it. I didn't back then, I don't think. It might've been the point where I decided 11 or more listens is not unusual to get where 'chre is going with any new project they release. Made me go back and like LP5, for sure. I'd almost written 'chre off as too weird for me-- which is downright fucking funny, at this point in my fairly long life, lemmetellya-- but Untilted helped me catch up. I was all about Orbital at this point in life, though. And working 13 hour days to pay my debts off. Yep.
Still trying to process you saying you hated NTS. Dude. Just pick 1, 2, then 3 and treat them each as a double album. At least one of those HAS to strike you positively, I'd think. I'm crazy, so I treat it as an 8-hour album, play it all day when I play it. Even 4 finally started to please me, and I didn't think that was gonna happen. Or ignore it, life is all about choices...but I really love NTS. It is something I can relate to, as most of my tracks are live and 30-60 mins, making them hard to share to begin with. I like this way they changed our world again. 4 x 2....it's just so round and happy.
Whatever. :) Have a great weekend, dude.
when did I say I hated NTS? I mean yeah the length is way too much for me to ever want to revisit in its entirety all in one sitting, but there was definitely good stuff on all 4 sessions that I found worth keeping around, enough for me to consider the project as a whole okay. it's not bad, just easy to make fun of lol
@@TheWonkyAngle Maybe I misunderstood, but understand that I am all about the epic stuff...so that one just kinda wins so far. Nothing else in my collection is any competition *except* for the 2 x 12-hour Autechre mixes, which are beyond epic. Plus the 2x10 hr one, of course. HEY! If you or anyone reading is NOT subscribed to Autechre's Mixlr, you are goofy maybe. These events are super fun, just sayin'. And also to say that an 8-hour album is not actually all that surprising, knowing these others.... They like to challenge both themselves and the industry standard, most certainly have been since Anti- at least. What does one do when one has done so much? MORE.
I listened to the NTS Live Sessions on that link...uh, this link: www.nts.live/projects/autechre-nts-residency/ for many months before I could afford the actual product, just dropping in randomly and letting it play *more* than 8 hours, so I couldn't even count how many times I heard it before it felt amazing through and through (except one track). I plan to someday acquire it on vinyl and explore it that way. And feel how heavy it is. o_o
Untilted took me the longest to get around to fully listen to, but it was the most rewarding.
As I said to you on Twitter it’s my favourite ae album and one of my favourites of all time. Great review wonky I’m glad you enjoyed it:)
saw (sic) them live for the first time when they toured this record. i was blown away by the way the performance sounded...a hurricane of sound but everything was perfectly balanced.
This is such a great review. Imagine if you didn't know a thing about Autechre and heard these descriptions.
cool review . really love that album. it's cold and metallic. and feels shorter. and underated 😊
One of my absolute favorites. Music for the thinking man.
Future Classical
Great and surprising review. Draft was my favorite album by Autechre for years until Untilted dethroned it.
Its probably a tie for me but those are definitely my favorite two. Glad to see I am not alone! Hard to believe any AE fans could dislike either.
Sublimit is an epic track! Untilted feels like the combination of the fun welcoming vibes on LP5 and the complexities on Confield and Draft 7.30.
Best sound and especially beats ever from Ae, it will take time for common people to understand the genious behind the movements (just like classical music masterpieces) and the whole concept. My favorite from Ae!
yo how did i do it - Fitting on my favorite album of theirs
I need to stop commenting on these videos before middle school comes back to haunt me
I’ve mostly gravitated towards their 90s work, but this is one of my favorites! I love the blend of thumping, intense beats and shockingly pretty synths.
The songs often feel like they unfold into different forms, almost like prog rock.
I really like it! Hoping they press it on vinyl again?
This alblum is honestly the reverse of confeld all the songs start off as completely random chaos but every 4 minutes it turns into an ambient track pretty cool
Best Autechre for me
I feel like I’ve been too hard on Autechre. Probably because I “didn’t get it”. But now I think I understand the appeal and even enjoy a few of their songs. Edit: well, some of the appeal..
PS, I hope you review Four Tet
Sixteen Oceans you mean? oh yeah that's coming dw lol
One of my favourites.
I’ve always thought it was Untitled
Hello! Could you please review any of The Caretaker albums? Especially Everywhere At The End Of Time.
their best imo are draft 7.30 and elseq 1-5
This album is funky and fun as hell
I still can't believe you hated Chiastic slide.
assuming this is a joke but kind of hard to tell with yt comments sometimes lol
Wait, it's called unTILTed?! Ah buh... oh yeah!
i like ipacial section but i have to listen to it at a ridicuosly low volume cause thers a pretty pericing frequency
your sublimit section sort of synced up with the song a bit
was that intentional?
apparently ferium has vocals but i cant hear them
First
Quick question - who’s discography will you be reviewing next?
a downtempo artist called Rumpistol. they were patreon requested ages ago in that brief moment when I allowed requests for those
Didn’t you do a review on Flume’s self titled album? Because I swear I remember you doing a video on it but I can’t find it anywhere on your channel.
not the self titled, no. I've reviewed Skin, the companion EPs, and Hi This Is Flume
boy ! I bought this album in 2005 in a store in Ukraine. Why are you just now talking about this?
It's spelled aw-tech-REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
