Re: Auctions. This car will be bought by a used car dealer for $4k, and then put on a used car lot and sold to some poor soul who will finance the car at 10% interest rate, and pay $12k for it. They will drive it for a few months until the fuel pumps fail, and then not have $5k to fix it, nor will they be able to pay off the $12k loan and will have no car to drive to work.
Meanwhile a fan of the show who knows the issue and cost with full disclosure would buy it as a second car, and fix it while only paying $4k for the car.
Hoovie - you’re sending some poor soul literally in to bankruptcy by selling it at auction.
You can rebuild the pumps pretty cheap, ~$200 or so, Tyler just needed a good story. If you finance a car with no warranty, you do so knowing the second you sign the paper that it could fail before you pull off the lot. Don't finance cars. Ever. And even the shadiest bank won't finance a 13 year old BMW. A buy-here-pay-here lot will usually take it back because it's better to keep you paying on something than have you walk away from a worthless car.
@@gasfiltered I wouldn't say never finance a car, but if you do, make sure it has a nice warranty. CarMax for example might upcharge used cars and don't haggle, but they have an unbeatable warranty for a used luxury car
No one is forcing a “poor soul” to buy a 13 year old BMW on credit. There are choices and consequences: the buyer needs to be responsible for their actions.
That seems very accurate
The 'poor soul' should research the car before buying it and maybe not drop money on cars they can't afford.

I personally love BMW'S, after looking at my uncle's used e60 530d (ik it's a diesel, ofc they would be kinda reliable) it has like 300k km and still hauls like a mf with no major issue whatsoever, just general maintenance. Well it all depends on how you take care of your car tbh, i think ppl that buy toyotas (etc.) just don't care about service intervals (I'm a carguy who loves every build, as long as it has a purpose)

The failing high pressure fuel pumps are indeed pretty common for most N73 drivers. It's mostly caused due to a faong membrane inside the pumps. But there are alot of sellers out there selling revised pumps for 350$/ea or so.

What a great channel. You really do learn a lot about cars without all the nonsense. I’m never going to own these cars, but it is so interesting to see what makes them tick and why they’re so expensive. Keep up the good work!
I remember reading somewhere from a guy who owned a 7 series saying the only reliable thing on it was the tires.
I have a wealthy friend to veered me off from buying a used 7 series years ago, he had had two of them and leased them for only 2 years at a time. Said it was a wonderful car when new, but buyers demand bleeding-edge technology for these machines and that always dooms the cars to breakdowns after about 40K miles.
Bill Olsen they aren t that bad in europe at least:)) in my country most of em are bought used with over 150k miles and they keep going for at least 100k more ,i have a friend of mine that has an 800k km e46 so they pretty good:))

5:30 As someone who owns and works on BMW’s, NEVER go to the dealership for parts especially for a car that old. I did one search on eBay for the fuel pumps, and I found multiple OEM lightly used or new examples for around $500 or even a bit less than that. Also if you were to get another BMW I’d recommend the E38 740i or 750i. I got my 740 around 2-3 years ago, and I put about $8k into it for new parts and a transmission rebuild. It has run with no lights on ever since. The most I’ve done to it is an oil change. If you were to go that route, I’d also recommend a facelifted model between 2000-2001
I think the 2000 - 2001 models are the best BMW has done. Seen 5s and 7s with over 400k and Zero engine vibration.
2003 e39 and 2001 e38 are the ultimate bm's
I 100% agree that you never buy new engine parts for old cars from the dealership. Like you said it's always best to shop around to find the best quality at the best price car parts.
I test drove a used 2000 in Miami. It was incredible. Awesome!
My idiot girlfriend didn't LIKE the salesman even though they kept lowering the price. She was snob from the UK. She bought a POS Range Rover instead.
She really showed them at Braman BMW. Face Palm.
I bought a 2005 E46 M3 years later. Wrench myself. Parts off Ebay, Amazon or mechanic's prices from the Stealer.
My assistant mechanic works during the week at the BMW Stealer parts counter. I get awesome pricing!
as someone with a Facelift E38 735i (M62) the Prefacelift front looks better
"There's gotta be someone stupid enough to buy it...!"
"Done!!"
I would've bought it too honestly. If repairs total to around $10,000 it's worth it. You're not going to have a better car for $13000
I'd buy it, rebuild the fuel pumps, and flip it for a quick 10 grand! lol I don't know what Hoovies on about, those pumps can be rebuilt for less than half the cost of one new pump.

A custom one. My lawnmower has a hellcat engine in it.
M8 there is a guy who rebuilds them pumps for 300 usd or import them from here in UK for 1k a pair

@@tibor29 It fits the narrative of his channel.
He knows. It’s all part of his channel. You can tell the real morons, they’re the ones who think in dealer prices and tell you never to buy a used Merc or BMW. the N73 HPFP's share some internal stuff like the membranes with other, cheaper OEM Bosch parts for other brands (Ford, VW) so you could have them rebuilt probably. That problem is so common on BMW V8s there is a Facebook group for it. The fix can be done DIY with the AGA tool. If you have time do it yourself then it's worth it, the car looks great drives great.
There has got to be a way to source pumps that meet the same spec. My Volvo was broke down in the UP of Michigan and needed ;a pump. The only garage in this little town needed to order one and would be 4 days. I asked them to look up GM pumps for small displacement engines. They had a Pontiac pump that worked on 4 cylinder cars. They pulled the Volvo, I swapped the wires, they put it in. Drove it for another 100k.

Good afternoon, I watch for a longer time your videos and iam from the Netherlands but have a lot of experience in cars, that Alpina B7 can be fixed for not to much money, just find the engine of the BMW 740i it's the same V8 and will work as a charm, in Germany it's the comen thing to do. Great show and good luck, your fuelpumps costs about $1250 here in Europe 😬 but I've a tip for you too try first for the 760I, just buy a small bottle of fuelsystem cleaner from Wynn's and maybe the problems going away, and try always to full up the car with gas what has a high octane , because that's the reason your cars are getting coled inside, a bottle of octane riser from time till time helps for better internal combustion.
Love your show and good luck, greets from the Netherlands 🇳🇱👍
