I am 60 years old. Learning piano makes me feel more relax. It helps me to calm down. It helps me live happier.
I absolutely agree. Being in a fulltime-job I have learned how to include piano-practicing into my everyday life:
10 Minutes in the morning during the first cup of coffeee, 10-90 minutes as the last thing to do in the evening before getting into bed.
You said one thing that really hooks up. I was just listening to a podcast about sleep. They were saying that a certain aspect of sleep, is the cleaning up of all of the connections that are not important and getting the brain in order. This fits in with what I understand muscle memory to be. The hardening of the myelin on the neural pathways you use the most. That way, the repetitive things you do, stay, and the rest can be cleaned away. So the 10 minute theory really stacks up.
Love this encouragement to strive for even just 10 min. I only had 10 today, but I decided to watch your video instead of practice (it was worth it!). I’ll do my first 10-min practice tomorrow.
I'm glad you're dedicating time to practice, even 10 minutes. Let me know how your progress goes!
common sense is making your teaching funand very motivating! Thanks Kaitlin
For me I get discouraged if I don’t feel like I’m progressing fast enough, then I get notified that one of your videos is available and you motivate me all over again, thank you!
I'm so glad they're motivating you. Keep going and don't give up!
If you're serious you need discipline, not motivation. There is a big difference between the two.
I thought for a while that I was to busy to take up the piano . But I believe under you direction and guidance I can get a lot more done
at least I am ready to give it a try, R. Keller
Great video!!
I love so much that you’re back!! It’s been lovely seeing you happy and filming again and doing something you love 🩷Thank-you for sharing! Also, I LOVE the Fred & Flow bumble bee design so much! 😭
Your videos are amazingly helpful.
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you ❤❤❤❤
excellent
Thank you for the reference of small chunks! Nice.
You are a really good teacher!!
Good advice
Great video
You inspire me. I am going to take your course next year.
Yes definitely. Being busy impedes learning the piano. My solution was to quit palying the piano. (o: Its been a year now and I am lurking around channels like yours thinking of playing again. But I suck and have so little time, so oh well.
You are a really good teacher. I’m going to start to play 👍
It's great video edit! I feel enjoyed watching ❤🎉
Thank you so much Sister. ❤
Thnks for this incouragement i will pass it on to my kids.
We are NEVER too busy to take time out for ourselves. Arnie nailed it, we have at least seventeen hours to play with after waking up. That is plenty of time to get things done!
So right. I hope you've squeezed in 10 minutes of practice today! :)
@@pianoly Ah ha I certainly did! :) I am self taught keyboards/synths but I decided to learn piano properly, so here I am with all of my bad habits!😉
Awesome video and tip re: lead sheets. I ran into an issue with one of my young teen students...wanted to learn "Last Christmas" by Wham. I found what I thought was a decent arrangement, but after a few weeks of trying it, the student turns to me and says, "it doesn't sound like the original...I'm not liking this" (I love the honesty of young people).
Fortunately, the arrangement has the chord symbols and the melody in the right hand. But, I am going to utilize lead sheets going forward. Thanks again for this very helpful video!!
It really works folks. Kind of scary when it really kicks in. Freaky. lol Great lesson. Thanks.
I love the way u teacher
Watching from Uganda
I am trying to spend more 10 minute days! Really concentrating on a small section, boom, a few days later my fingers play along and I wonder who is guiding them! What a feeling thank You Kaitlyn!
That's awesome. Keep up the good work!
Your advice is priceless. This is how I have been playing sheet music taught by myself. My base is the chord on top of the measure. I play the treble as is. I have been starting scales. I have done C,D and just started E. I don't know if this is a good plan to start with all the major scales and go from C to B. This is where I think I need help and direction. Yes, with daily things to do, I find that you have to be in the right mind set to practice or else you don't enjoy it.
Great video K !!
Between work, lunches, watching the news, mingle with my lady, I will certainly keep 10 minutes for myself and my keyboard.
Sometimes we just need a little coaching and convincing.
Thanks Kaitlyn !!! 😊
That's great. Be sure to squeeze in 10 minutes today! Enjoy!
Thank you for these videos, I get so much out of them!
I'm so glad they're helpful. Keep practicing and having fun!
Thank you! I'm off to practice.😊
Awesome. Have fun! :)
I'm learning, slowly but learning
I'm piano biginer and english learner in japan.I will check your video from now on. Thanks.
Hi Kaitlyn I’m A new subscriber and I love your content.
Wow! And I'd like to learn to play the jazz piece you closed this video with! ❤️
It's "All of Me" by John Legend. :)
If you were playing with a Band, you would not play the vocal melody. Listen to the Song... I guess if you wanted to play alone and play the vocal melody that's fine as well. However, some beginners may be deceived in learning this way by playing the melody with the chords, and then when they go to play with a Band they'll be all confused. The distinction between the 2 styles should be noted...
Coooooll... ElectricEddie 😎
I used to play the piano in high school and reached a respectable level where I was playing the classics that i loved. Then I moved out for college and that was the end of my piano playing. Now 20 years later I just bought a keyboard and put it in my bedroom, so I have no excuse to not play for 10 minutes before going to bed. It's frustrating to feel like I'm starting from scratch again. Wish I had recorded myself in my younger years. I've had that scales book in my amazon wishlist for over 10 years. Time to get to work.
Great video, Kathy! Gonna practice 10 min rn
Thanks! Yes - go practice!! :)
Fantastic ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Awesame!
Thanks for watching!
Definitely being busy makes it much more difficult to learn the piano. I am intrigued in this video with the fact that 10 minutes / day might be enough to start to lay down the needed muscle memory. I have fallen into the trap of practicing with occasional long chunks of time, as it becomes available, rather than disciplining myself to a guaranteed 10-15 minutes a day. Emotionally, I suppose, it is a trade off. That is, in 10 minutes, emotionally, I barely feel like I am doing anything. So I don't do it, waiting until I have a large chunk of time. But if the muscle memory will develop faster with the "daily 10" rather than the 1/wk longer session, then I need to give it a try - I am not too busy to set aside a consistent 10 minutes!
Good morning Kathy,
Love the lesson.
I generally like to practice in the late afternoon.
After I am done running around doing my errands.
Then I don’t have that hurry up feeling to get over practice and going back and finish my errands.
It is also a great time to relax playing the piano.
It helps me to concentrate better and not keep having mind farts because I am thinking what
I have to do after practice. 😂
Take Care and have a blessed weekend.
🙏🙏🙏
I totally get that! My brain works similarly. Hope you squeezed in 10 minutes today! :)
@@pianoly
That is why I like to do it after finishing all my errands. I can take more time.
10 minutes is not enough time to become the next Ludwig van Beethoven, minus the teeth, but still have the hair.
Take Care and have a blessed weekend.
🙏🙏🙏
Not busy but overwhelmed not knowing where to start, Memorising songs or Scales to learn how to run my hands fluently over the keys or practice chord progressions....or..or..or 🤯🤯🤯
1st, thanks for the tip of using lead sheets, really makes a difference. I’m using Muse to make them, but is there something better?
It’s really clunky using the menus and without learning the keyboard shortcut, it’s really a slow process.
Wow … this blowed up my mind real good … ha! I’m retired so finding ten minutes isn’t a problem … it’s more a question of motivation. The good news is that I broke my left hand in a bicycle crash two months ago and playing the piano is part of my home physio! Thanks for another fun and informative video! PS: Just ordered that scales and chords book. 🎹🚴♂️😀🤯
Glad you got the scales book. Be sure to practice some today! :)
I'm recovering from a stroke I had 9 years ago. I have some serious weakness in my left hand. What could be a better physical therapy device than the piano. I had piano lessons pre-teen to 14 years old. I'm 65 now and prior to my stroke played drums. now after 9 years I'm kicking myself. Your approach to the piano really has inspired me to at least try again. Even though its been decades, I still remember fingering and scales. My goal and my hope and prayer is to see if I can get my fingers and brain rewired again? I'm optimistic and just need to be patient. If you have any specific excercises I can do to help me, I would appreciate it! Thanks! I bought a finger exerciser to at least strengthen my fingers esp my pinky. Tell me I can do it! 🙏👍🎹🎶
I've been having tendinitis and that's why I need short practice routines.
I don’t actually like tendinitis but am having the same issue…can’t practice nearly as long as I’d like!
My solution is to get up early in the morning and practice a bit before I go to work. I can’t do that every day but I try to do that most of the time.
. Raise your leg up to your chest you right leg knee. Continue by alternating legs and moving at a sprinting or running pace .
Hi Kaitlyn is it possible to include in one of your videos correct or appropriate fingering for arpeggios in other keys such as flats and sharps
Thanks much 🙏🏻
Hey, i swear I was just thinking why you are not uploading lessons, and your notification came up😮
And I think being busy can affect your routine but I try to take out atleast 5 mins before going to bed at night.
And sometimes like in the weekends when I sit before piano and start practicing chords and hand coordination, I feel like I am exhausted soon may be your mind also needs more focus in it...
I was busy, but I am back. Thanks for being so dedicated and enjoy the video! 🎹
@@pianolyhappy to see u back🙂
My problem with learning instruments isn’t making the time it’s knowing what to practice. I have hundreds of books on playing trumpet, guitar, piano, saxophone and drums not to mention those on improvisation but I have immense difficulty structuring a practice routine.
For every scale we play our thumb touches the C and F notes. That too is easy to remember 😂😂
Very interesting. I find it very difficult to follow a lead sheet. This assumes you know all the chords first, I do not even after trying to master piano for many years. The stroke I had eliminated any possibility. I have been working on my guitar skills and it had helped my piano tremendously. At my best I was probably a first or second year piano student.
I never used weighted keys what portable model is good to learn
I am a returning piano player. My question/ is it enough only to learn the one octave scale or not?
Aha, I have to practice both hands together on the scales. I play by ear since I can barely read music.
Hi, where can I find this Lead Sheet to practice?
Good advice, I left it at the John Legend song, totally subjective I know but his music fails to resonate my resonator. 😕
Thanks. Arpeggios are hard to me. I have small hands and even doing proper rotation it hurts me a little bit if I sit in the middle of the piano (between the G and the A). It gets a little better if I sit in front of the middle C. I keep practising, but I stop the first second I feel pain on my wrist I think I'll have to get help from a real teacher
There's more to this than just memorizing where to put the fingers. For me training my fingers to do those chords is a challenge but I intend to spend more than ten minutes working on them. I removed all the alphabet stickers from my keys because I kept cheating looking at those instead of the key groups.
I could say I'm busy, but its more like distracted by the things that aren't as much of a challenge. Some of the things that inspire me at some level end up being a comparison against my own abilities that are so much lower.
What website do u use 4 you lead sheets?
*your lead sheets
I can't find the download Kaitlyn? can you help me? Gary x
For the planner? If so, here it is: www.try.piano.ly/optin1681745488770
I don’t have any trouble getting to to piano and practicing. My problem is that I learn very slowly and I get discouraged because the results I am hoping to achieve take seemingly forever or I give up on that particular skill for now and go on to something else. But I love practicing. 🤔
Patience is a big part of learning the piano. Try to stay patient and consistent with practicing!
I would suggest you to put the letter of each key above it on the board very clearly so that the learners can see where your fingers go when you play. That will help to practice more easily.
Nonsense. That's like labeling all the items in the room in a foreign language to learn - instead you need to learn to memorise them. I hate to see keyboards with the letters marker-penned onto them. I guarantee these people never learned to play.
@@majorred5433 Okay , that makes sense.
That's the same with bowling.
Being busy and being “too tired” are synonymous in today’s world
I feel that if you taught how to read music, rather than play songs by memory (I learn better this way) your instruction would be more effective.
I do teach how to read music…..
This presumes the “beginner” knows these scales, chords and inversions. Where do you learn these?
My channel.. :)
@@pianoly I got the major ones down, now to minors.
Skip the first 2 minutes of the video if you're BUSY. 😂
I'm not busy but just lazy
Good honesty 😊
Being lazy is what's preventing me from improving.
Set a time each day that you dedicate to the piano -- no excuses. ;)
No,but threading is that little progress.
Besides the time factor, I don’t like the sound that comes out of my playing. It sounds awful. That bring my enthusiasm down, pulls me away.
Starts at 1:40.
A bit fast unfortunately
What is an octave? What is an arpeggio? What is an inversion? No explanations. This video is definitely not for beginners.
Being busy is a really poor excuse for ... "Lazy." We, as humans, have one very distinct advantage over all other animals and that is, we can create time. So, create 10 mins and do it.
Humans aren’t animals…
@@LumbridgeTeleportHumans are animals dude 💀
Must be nice to be you… for the rest of us that struggle with so much but yet want to learn something… like piano.. this lady is just a blessing… not judging… but helping!!!!
@anaisamaris Exactly. You got it! If you want, like, enjoy, or need to do something then you will make time to do it. When you make the time to practice and it pays off, someone will say, "It must be nice to be you."
1:40 in 1:40 wasted :)
