HOW TO INSTALL LEVER ACTION SOLENOID ELIMINATOR / HERE'S WHAT I HAD TO DO

  • . This week we decided to install a new "Lever Action Solenoid Eliminator" on Gus's Old Shovelhead. Looks cool, should be good if it works. If only it fit like it should. The more aftermarket parts I use the more I am detesting them. They look cool, sound great but will it even fit and work? Its like Russian Roulette. Pull the trigger and see what happens. So here's how I handled this new part. Hopefully it will help others out there to get it installed.

    Modifying cars or bikes, nothing is just bolt on, That's what I have learned in my 70 years, and nowadays you have to deal with poorly made parts. Good Tips Ralph! You no doubt save someone a headache doing that same job! lol at times I wish my Hot Rod Shovelhead was NOT Kick Only. another Good Video Ralph it shows some patience on your part.

    Been watching you for a bit now, good straightforward stuff. As for the solenoid upgrade, maybe ya think that spacer you left out had anything to do with the 3 washers you had to add? 🙄🤔😉 maybe not...lol. and again, thanks for the vids. God was in a good mood when he made the Shovelhead (and forgives the haters 😂

    • @itsmytimeletsgo
      @itsmytimeletsgo  Před 2 měsíci +1

      If the spacer was used it owuld have leaked everywhere I am sure. Also it would have made the bendix stick out even farther and hit the ring gear. Trial and error to get it right. Thanks for commenting.

    Ran into the same problems and it sits in the box still...lol..some day i might dabble with it ..thanks for sharing ..One of the biggest problem i had was dealing with starter run-a-way..had to do the old chiness fire drill to shut it down before melting the solenoid.. but i got that fixed . i hope..

    • @itsmytimeletsgo
      @itsmytimeletsgo  Před 2 měsíci

      Over run can be a big problem with some solenoild systems. Hopefully this will eliminate that. haven't powered up yet. We will see. Thanks for commenting.

    Awesome video thank you. Have you tried it yet? Works? I was concerned about the bendix riding the ring gear and figured to use some washers but i wasn't sure.

      It seemed to function ok but has not had a lot of use yet. We will see what the future brings. The washers are what made it work properly. Thanks for commenting.

    Can you please explain the wiring? I’m have an 83 FLH and it has the square Bosch style relay that comes with the lever. I also need the round relay that looks similar to the stock solenoid to, correct? And does that relay get wired exactly like the stock solenoid that I’m removing?

    • @itsmytimeletsgo
      @itsmytimeletsgo  Před 12 dny

      No it is not the same but you can check out this link and there is a picture there of the wiring for the relay. www.harley-davidsonforums.com/threads/83-shovelhead-solenoid-installation.265177/#lg=thread-265177&slide=0 Hope this helps you out. Thanks for commenting.

      @bmp72 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@itsmytimeletsgo Same as for you: I needed a bunch of washers to get the arm that moves the gear in the correct position. As far as wiring goes, I shorted out the starter button on the handle bar and installed the lever wire on the ground side of the small relais. Then I mounted the big relay underneath the battery box (this meant I could re-use the original thick black power wires). I installed it all a year ago and it’s been flawless. I also have an FXDG (twin belt wide glide) where I want to do the same, but I am still puzzling about the location of the big relais as the location underneath the battery box is blocked by the rear brake reservoir. But for this bike the original solenoid works still fine so am not in a rush .
