      So far it hasn’t been an issue. I’ve had it mounted this way in two bikes now. Mounted it this way thinking if I forget to latch it closed. It’s much harder for stuff to fall out and it will be immediately apparent it’s open and the wind would push the lid open and I would see it in the mirror.

    Hi,
    I have the exact same bike. I was also struggling for parts cause the bike was new. Also ended up with the same crashbars.
    But i am a bit dissapointed with them. With them your choice for engine guards will be very limited. So i will try to sell them.
    Did not even mounted them because of that. I give much value to a good engine guard. Next year heading of to Turkey and Iran. It could be that Iran is not possible so then i will go to Armenia. Also a very nice country. When typing i realise that it is only in 5 months before the start. It looks a long time but have still some adjustments to do at the bike. Probably also the shock. I knew beforehand that the shock was not ok. But did not realise how bad it actually was. It is so bad that i think that KTM should replace all of them without any cost. And an excuse for all the hassle.

  • @chipmartin2355
    @chipmartin2355 Před rokem +1

    Thanks for the video. Do you have to remove the crash bars each time you change your oil? I noticed you were bolting the front end to the front of the skid plate so was wondering how you got around that.

    • @pnwxplore
      @pnwxplore  Před rokem

      Yeah the crash bar on that side does have to be pulled, not ideal. But probably only have to do once a year so not too bad.

    Call me crazy but anything I would mount to a car or Moto I always feel a need to add some blue thread locker to all bolts lol, I just feel so much better knowing nothing will rattle loose, but more definitely the ones that I won’t have to loosen for awhile, just me though, just added peace of mind with those vibrations.

      I mean this is a cheap one from Amazon as well. I would say it definitely improved it, but it’s not perfect. I’m 6’2” and the wind is just barely pushed to the tip top of the helmet. It’s for sure an improvement over stock, so I can’t complain there

    Every rack I see mounted on the Norden, KTM or aftermarket seems to be sticking out way to far from the bike. Especially on the exhaust side. I get it's a heat thing but I'd rather have heat shields and tighter racks.

    • @pnwxplore
      @pnwxplore  Před 10 měsíci

      Unfortunately any bike is like that unless it’s a specific rack for specific hard side panniers. Flat racks are more universal and that’s why they stick out so far. Personally doesn’t bother me at all.

    I noticed Husqvarna now offers a replacement windshield that is taller than the original.

    • @pnwxplore
      @pnwxplore  Před rokem

      That they do, but I am not sure it is worth it vs just an extension

    • @keesverhagen9227
      @keesverhagen9227 Před rokem

      I can tell you that it is not.
      The extension from Husk is quite good. It is just a MRA one. It is also adjusteble. That combination is better then the larger one.
      It almost makes me think that Husqvarna made an awfull screen on purpose so it would generate money. The screen and shock are truly two very negative parts of the Norden 901. That should not have happenend for such amount of money.
      Also when going on a large trip you can adjust the extension screen downwards as much as possible. To get more wind and cooling when going offroad in hot weather. And also to minimise the risc of hitting the larger shield with your neck when crashing. Had that once with my 1190r. I hit it quite hard and almost crushed my windpipe. It hurted for more then a couple of weeks.
      And also i was quit surprised how the extension screen made such a huge difference. Almost could not beleive it. I own a Klim Krios Pro helmet. It has a large peak on top of it that catches wind. Really can recommend the extension screen over de larger screen. Will sell the larger screen.

    • @howlinhog
      @howlinhog Před rokem

      @@keesverhagen9227 Where did you get the extension screen? My comment of a taller screen from Husqvarna in truth was an assumption. It's certainly shaped differently. Do you not recommend the new shape? I also have the Klim Krios Pro but I never installed the peak.

    • @keesverhagen9227
      @keesverhagen9227 Před rokem

      @@howlinhog Ordered it alongside when i placed the order of my Norden. I got the screen a few weeks later. When opening the box there was a small tiny card inside with the text MRA. So probably Husky just had it made by MRA or it existed allready. To my knowledge there is not a logo present on the screen. You could compare it from the picture with who MRA has developed and simply order that one. Assumable it will also be a little bit cheaper.
      The last 15 years the bikes i owned i bought brandnew. With only exeption of my 1190R. Every stock windshield was horrible.
      So as soon that there was an other option i immediatly bought one of those. Most of the time it was not a better option. Sometimes it became even worse. I am 1.92 meters. With all of those bikes i finally ended up with a tall Givi Airflow windshield. Large and adjustable in height. Not a good sporty looker but i had no choice. Cause the buffeting got to me every time. It is not something i can endure. I hate it. It is giving me a headdache and getting me tired. In the last 15 years i maybe bought over 20 different windshields.
      In the end only the Givi Airflow gave me the result i could live with. On three of my bikes at the left inneside of the pannier rack made an holder where i could stick the upper screen of the Givi cause it exists out of two parts. And the upper one can be taken fully away. On a long trip when on vacation and the weather is hot sometimes you need the airflow to cool down a little. When going offroad and maintaining slow speeds.
      The windnoise also made me go for a Shubert helmet. A C2 or a C3. Cause they also could minimise the buffeting. And are also light.
      Although i did not like the hinges of the visors. When going 40 kph or more the visor kept keeping closed by the windforce.
      So for once decided to go on the Klim Krios Pro route. I must also say that until recently i rode the whole year through because i also had to commute to my job and back. That was also a big factor to minimilise the windbuffeting as much as possible. The downside of that is that when riding with the big Givi screen i could not use the windforce to push away the raindrops on my visor. But you can't have it all.
      I ordered the extension screen with the idea better something then nothing. With the big Givi Airflow screen in the back of my mind and all of the other puchace failures from the past. But to my surprice this extension screen is doing a great job. And now i am thinking why did i not go this route along time ago ? It would have saved me a lot of money for sure from all the failures in the last 15 till 20 years.And also the Givi Airflow screen are quit hefty per price. A lot of money. And way to big. Maybe i would have had the same results or almost the same results in the past compaired to the bulky Givi screen. But i also understand that if a persons head comes out a few cm lower or higher that this can make a big difference.
      I once did read an article where someone stated that changing the mirrors on his Norden 901 made a huge difference towards the windbuffeting. Before in a couple of months to set of for a large trip i also will change the mirrors. Sometimes it can be the stupid things that also contribute to the change.
      You could try to remove the mirrors and go for a very short ride. You never know.
      Greetings from the Netherlands.👍
