Coincidentally, I can’t hear this song without thinking of my Dad’s death. This song was in the charts when he died in 1998 and it’s just one of those songs that instantly makes me remember that horrible event in my life. RIP Dad

Still right here buddy, always keep an eye out for your reactions. Thanks for the shout out. Haven't watched the reaction yet, hope you like the song. Richard lost his own dad, who died suddenly when Richard was aged 10. He married and became very close to his father in law. Like a surrogate father. And he tragically also died after a terminal illness. The song is about him. Yeah, the "drugs" are the pain medication not working anymore he's so ill, they just make him worse.

By far the best Verve song is bitter sweet symphony: the video is iconic and the song has 1 billion CZcams views so I understand, and it isn't unremittingly mainstream...It's a must watch!

Such a beautiful and highly emotionally sad song. Written from the heart. He was depressed when he made this song and the album, It's about, losing his Dad. I always thought it was about drug abuse, but no, medical.
Never understood the video, but I found out that he is walking the road of life, and the people represent obstacles we all come across. He is a genius. He got sued by the Rmollingstones, for his song, Bittersweet Symphony it's said he looped a part of their song, written by Mick Jagger.

Richard Ashcroft is such a wonderful singer/songwriter/performer/storyteller. Squirrel. please also try, 'Lucky Man' or 'Bittersweet Symphony' or 'Sonnet' (or of course, you could try all three) 🙋‍♂

I think Richard Ashcroft (no relation but born and grew up a few miles away from me) lost his father as a young lad, so not sure if this may hold a connection as to why this was sent as a music suggestion after you reacted to James Blunt. I am so glad you were able to reconnect with your dad and remember at the time hoping you would. At that time I had just lost my dad very suddenly and in very sad circumstances. We had a lovely father/daughter relationship and I spoke to him literally 5 minutes before he passed, no warning or anything. So I knew how precious time is and wanted for you to reconnect or at least to have reached out regardless of the outcome.

Lol, you mentioned Noddy and Slade. I'm.related to Noddy. 3rd cousin or some such. I've never actually met the man though. Fathers family. South England and West Midlands. I'm northern....a Geordie.....living in Brighton....now. London Geordie mostly though. More London than Tyneside after 30 years coming and going.
