  • Today we tear apart the Getrag M32 six speed transmission in my 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco to find bad bearings causing my shifting issues and noises. All bearings get replaced with Timken upgraded bearings for a smooth shift and quiet running noise. Be sure to subscribe for more unreal content!!

    Thanks for the vid! I wasn't sure if the bolt in the input shaft was reverse thread but you had a nice clear close up of it! (Right hand if anyone missed it)

    Did you think about rebuilding with metal bearing cage instead of plastic? Was there pitting on the rollers themselves? I believe once those plastic cages wear and there is slop in the bearing rollers and that's the source of this issue. That's why I always go with metal cages because they last.
    I'm about to do this in my Getrag trans on my fusion, I'm going to measure the bearings OD, ID and width to size the bearing and then I'll order whatever flavor bearing I want that is compatible. Thanks for the video, definitely giving me insight into my future project!

    I have a m32 aswell in my 1.9cdti 150 and i saw a video from uk i believe and they have upgraded the "pan" of the gearbox so the 5/6 can be more lubrificated and they also got bigger and better bearings. But i couldnt find a way to buy it to mount on my gear box

    Hello Sr., I will appreciate if you can mention me when is necessary replace gear bearings, now I'm replacing all shaft bearings (easy to find new ones in Chile, three of them in bad conditions) but I'm not sure to disassemble input and counter shaft to replace gear bearings (not easy to find), symptoms: a lot of smashed metal in drain and filling magnet plugs and noisy manual transmission, many thanks!!

    Very difficult to put out this shims . Any tool to buy for them? Have the same bearing tool to remove bearings. What kind of bolt was that?

    Sixth gear bearing is the most common to go with the m32.

    How long did you have the bearing problem before you rebuilt it? Mine has the output shaft problem now it seems....

    Does the apply to the 6spd in the sonic rs? Do you have a list of tools that you used for this rebuild
    I have some crunching when shifting and the gear noise from 20mph and up and want to do this rebuild.

    you need to reshim the axles when you put new bearings in

  • @patriciacastroaranton5157

    Thanks for the video! I have a corsa D Vxr as well and I have to change a synchro but I've been told by GM that not every m32 firt to second synchro can fit in my m32 gearbox because these gearboxes were put in other cars as well, so I can't find a way to make sure I buy the proper one 😰

    • @bradenrein
      @bradenrein  Před 3 lety

      Unfortunately it sounds like you need to take a chance and buy one and hope it fits. Not sure how else you’d figure it out

    • @justinjahnke858
      @justinjahnke858 Před rokem

      Take it apart and measure the synchro. You should be able to order based on dimensions. Someone has to know what you need if you have the dimensions, otherwise take it to a machine shop and see if they can fabricate for you.

    Have you had any issues since redoing the gearbox? Apparently the shims need doing when you rebuild it or the gearbox won't last as long?

    • @bradenrein
      @bradenrein  Před 3 lety +2

      I haven’t had any issues at all. from what I can tell the shims are to set the backlash on the ring gear, in which case they don’t need replacing as long as they go back in the exact spot they came from

      @@bradenrein thats a massive weight off of my mind! I have literally just started to get my box sorted to day and the shimming is the part I'm worried about as I can't find any info on them regarding setting. Do you know if I can reuse the original shimms with uprated bearings for the gen 1 casing?

    • @bradenrein
      @bradenrein  Před 3 lety +4

      You can if you are just changing bearings and keeping both sides of the case like I did. If you upgrade the casing you need different bearings and new shims.

    Do you have a link to where to buy the bearings? I have a 2012 Cruze eco also.... mine jumps out of 2nd gear when accelerating. I think I need syncro and 2nd gear do you know where to get these?

    • @bradenrein
      @bradenrein  Před 2 lety

      If you’re having any movement of the shifter, it likely means one or more bearings are shot. It just might be a different bearing than the one I had shot
