- Abishek Raghuram Sings Manavasi Ramasami Iyer's(1914) composition In Vagadeeswari, more or less seems to be Nasika Booshani. Abishek is well versed to play the Nasika Booshani too.The main difference, easily detectable is M1 in vagadeeshwari and M2 in Nasika Bhooshani..Abhishek himself sang "Maara Vairi" in one of his concerts! Raga Vagadheeswari is really soothing .Abhishek added more flavor to it.Excellent. It reminded me Dr.Balamuralikrishna in more aspects
Akkarai and Abhishek. Its like balamurali and lalgudi together. Ma Saraswati would you make cry even in happiness thru them? Ayyo ayyo tears flowing
You just made me fall in love with the South Indian culture! All the way more. Thank you.
Wish I am that thatha… always smiling and more importantly sitting besides Abhishek, enjoying the serene flow of Vagadeeshwari !! 😂
I'm already running out of adjectives for Shri "Abhishek Raghuram", despite listening to him at length only for the past few days. His alapanas make me cry spontaneously and RTPs make me both laugh and cry simultaneously.😂 That this happens despite me being a music illiterate says/shows something about his prowess. 👌
There's nary a doubt he clearly belongs to the once-in-a-lifetime / century category of music jambawans (stalwarts) and rasikhas are simply blessed to be alive during his time, getting drenched in a kind of music that isn't of this plane of existence.😌 May be the Lord has decided to offer us mere mortals a glimpse of how music is rendered in his lokha, through this precious musician.🙌 Shambho!🙏
Truely
Abhiskek Raguram is a class apart!
We run out of words to describe this musical genius
Thanks a million, Abhishek for giving us so much of joy through your extraordinary music.

I am not very familiar with the intricacies of this Raga but the way in which it was presented attracted me very much especially when the composition is on Bhagavan Ramana maharshi.

I totally agree with this comment that any raga if it is sung without the emphasis on the jiva swaras and vivadhi swaras (here ) it sounds like a different raga, The main focus of the singer should not only the fast prayogas but should bring out the chaya of that particular raga. I have noticed that ragas like Todi if sung in this style it looses its "Ghathram" and dignity....he is a great singer ...without any doubt..
You are correct in your assessment he missed his way to0 establish the jeeva
of vagadeeswari raga
🔥🔥🔥
@1:19 - to :21 sounded exactly like para ma thmu du . That is the Aarohanam. beginging.

TRANSLATION OF THE SARANAGATHI SONG INTO ENGLISH
Pallavi
I surrender — unto you
Where else am I to surrender myself tell me
(I surrender)
Anupallavi
Who is perfect in Arunachala
Which endows one with ultimate Release
O Ramana, Raincloud of Compassion!
(I surrender)
Saranam
Is this not the appropriate time
For granting me your glance of Grace?
If you delay, Lo! What am I to do?
My beloved, remove my sorrow
and grant me Bliss
I can’t bear indifference any further,
O Vediya (One who is Brahman Itself)
(I surrender myself unto you)
🙏 🙏 🙏 Thank you very much, Sir..,for your kind posting the meaning of the keerthana... "Saranagathi..."
The raga Vaagadheeshwari is a 'sampoorna raaga' - meaning all the seven notes appear in its arohana (ascent) and avavohana (descent) as srgmpdn - which differs from Chakravaakam raaga only in RI. Vaagadheeshwari is a Vivaadi (or roughly, discordant sounding) Raaga due to the use of BOTH Gs (flat and sharp G), whereas Chakravaakam contains the "regular" srgmpdn notes. The discordance sounds weirdly pleasant to the ears, especially in the rendering in this clip.
Wow. Awesome analysis to its depth. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us
+Balakrishnan Srikumar - Please let us not discuss the technicality as his singing is very soothening. I have been hearing this vahadeeswari in different wstyles. For example MDR used to sing this in lower octave, they are permitted in a concert as this is not sung in Sadhas. I express my Anubhavam over 50 years from the day of GNB. let us such wonderful singers. lest you forget this is sung for common people where style and melody is counted.

+Paul Krist could be Harikamboji except for RI as well!
Musician from the Gandharva loka!
Absolutely brilliant! He owns Vaagadheeshwari (see more recent recordings on CZcams). Abhishek is one of our most extraordinary talents, but I do wish that other budding singers just focus on a few outstanding creations of theirs, as opposed to a vast mediocre repertoire (tiresome).
can any body explain the meaning of this keerthana.., pls.
Never Rao excellent
Q
I am a huge fan of Abhishek. However, I have to agree with Hari1093 on how Abhishek has handled VAgadEshwari - particularly the Shatsruthi Rishabham which should be a Dheerga swaram during delineation. Particularly, during fast phrases, he should emphasize the VivAdhi note with due care. No knock on his talent or Manodharma. He is a great artist. But, this RAgam should be handled differently.
+Sam Sereno Sir You have written exactly what I was thinking .
How about uploading the entire Kutcheri ? Moni
Let us not get sunk in technicalities & Maths. He has sung it beautifully. Just enjoy
Onnu chumma iri Anna! Reminded of BMK comments and all I don't understand!.

..is ..Vagadeeswari and Bhagesri are one and the same . ,can any body post ,please.
No sir; they are two different ragams. Bageshri is a janya of Kharaharapriya while Vagadeeshwari is a separate melakarta on its own.
The main difference is in the Rishabham. Vagadeeshwari has a better sense of mystery due to the difference between the first two notes (longer than bageshri).
ch.trimurthulu Ch
Sir, Vaagadeeshwari is a melakartha ragam, which means it has all 7 notes. Bageshri is a janya of Karaharapriya. Bageshri has this signature avarohanam which is sndmpgmrs, that makes it sound unique.
This young man's talent is sheer genius.
The only other living musician who could come close to Abhishek Raghuram is Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna.
The abilities of these two lie not just in their incredible grasp of the ragam but also in their infallible mastery of tala!
Watch another video of these musicians and you'll be awestruck by their talent!
Among the old generation, only U Srinivas and TS Kakyanaraman would be on par with him.
+Amazing World Maybe among the youngsters, but he can't compete with the old-time legends like TNK, PSN, etc.
What more he does other than Those mentioned Stalwarts?
Naanamilledo close to BMK ennoke parayaan?
Carnatic music is undergoing a vast change in rendition. I have heard Yesudas rendering this Raaga in Tamil Isai Sangarm sometime in late 60's or early 70's.There he sang this Raaga for more than an hour or so. His style was different and his rendering was great. But we cannot underestimate Abhishekh. This young lad has rendered the Ragaa in a fantastic way and perhaps what hari 1093 commented was right. But this does not spoil the rendition as Abhishekh brought out the best of Vagadeswari in his rendition
+Nrayanan Seshadri Probably in eighties ? Yes a lengthy soul-stirring aalaapanai, followed by the kriti Vani Vaagadeeswari. His rendering was mellifluous . No comparisons - that is not the subject here. Just reminded of Yesudas' masterpiece here
I am nobody to comment on His talent and knowledge... But I disagree with the way he starts Vagadheeswari here... The opening phrase without showing the shatsruthi Rishabham resembles Ahirbhairav or some raga in that family.. I believe that the unique flavour of the raga one intends to sing should come in the opening phrase itself. In general, I disagree with the way he treats this raga, at many instances, in this video It just my opinion, not a personal attack :) I admire him for his incredible voice and talent, and of course I am a big devotee of his grandfather Sri Palghat Raghu sir :)
absolutely. The essence of a raga has to come out in the first few phrases.Had the video not mentioned raga it would have been difficult to identify.
Excellent
We:r great to Comment on highly talented people.Usually some people believe that to comment
is a skilful act
...Prostrations to d Raakhsasa practice & dedication of of this Music RIShi...doing TAPass..
On the Musical field!!!
True statement, but keeping Vagadeeshwari in suspense for few seconds/minutes has been a practice musicians have done for decades. Abhishek is just following that. There are 2 famous recordings where LGJ has done it, and Rengachari has sung the alapana where he stretches it for 2+ minutes before bringing out the Vagadeeshwari chaya.
Agreed. And the great vidwans also played with their audiences sometimes. In this case, Abishek seems to have introduced the rishabam at the 30 second point of this video. It does sound like Ahirbhairav initially, so I agree with you. However, when you're in a concert by this guy you're always catching up with what he is doing and what he has to offer, and that is truly a treat. :)
What Raag is this song?
Thank you so much
I find the excessive use of gamakas is indeed karnaranjakam. Nothing wrong in it. He has developed his own super style. Pl do not criticise just for the sake of your comments.
I completely agree with u sir
Fantastic no words sir
Music lost vagatheeswari Jeevan
