- Glimpse behind the Avatar curtain into our Na'vi costume workroom where our artisans were led by Costume Designer, Deb Scott, to hand craft every garment worn by the Navi in Avatar: The Way of Water. Weaving, braiding, knotting, carving, and beading over a period of five years, this was a dream costume project unlike any other.

people often don't seem to realize that every outfit that we see in the film exists as a physical object that was scanned to be put on the 3D model. it's incredible how much detail the outfits have, both in the physical object and the 3D model translation of it
That Jake "Metkayina Warrior" design... I hope we see that look in Avatar 3 and it wasn't scrapped.

Fantastic work :), also the simple idea of making the mannequin blue matched to the Na’vi so that the costume can be seen against the colour.
This is honestly the only trailer I need for the film. To see everything so intricately crafted (even using looms!) is amazing. I think my favourite piece here would be between the ocean-shell themed stone at 0:21 or the headpiece at 1:58.

This is simply mind-boggling. This all had to be designed on the computer, and then hand made before being digitized. I don't think I've ever seen anything so exquisite.

You know how people ask things like 'what would Ancient Egyptian architecture and fashion look like if it survived and developed until now', or in the case of Marvel's Wakanda 'what would contemporary Sub-Saharan African nations and Ancient Mesoamerican nations' architecture, fashion, technology look without global influence', well this just makes me think what would the Western and Eastern world have looked like if they hadn't been so industrialised and advanced technologically, because these works are beautiful

And then it got all digitized for the CG characters, did the digital team scan it in or just used photographs?
I suppose you'll need something touchable for visual reference. It's basically in every scene so it needs to work from every angle/bend/crunched/distressed. Also probably gives actors/director/set designers a better visual/touchable feel for what is "there" when you film mocap all day.
