It would be interesting to see if manufacturers make revisions on your recommendations.
Highly doubt they will. They wouldn’t even help promote the series. You’d think they would be itching to get the word out on the biggest mower review series ever but not the first manufacturer wanted to help after I contacted every one of them. 🙄
@@GCITurfno, they don't want to get involved unless they win and then they'll see how they might utilize your work to promote their product.
Looking at it from the manufacturer point of view I can’t necessarily blame them. If they promoted it then finished in last place it wouldn’t be a good look on their part. I’m sure it’s like the automotive industry…you only see them talk about Motor Trend or Car and Driver unless they win.
@@froggiewes there in no last place in this style review. It’s a win win across the board for every manufacturer represented
@@seanm2216 you are EXACTLY right! I had 2 of the manufactures email me back and wanted to edit the video clip I sent them so it “fits” their brand. I told them no way not gonna do that.
Well you taught me to double stripe back in the day. You double stripe that with a Scag Stand on Mower, you have the best stripes in the country guaranteed. Scag Simply the Best!
As a scag owner i can confirm the rigidity of the ride however the comfort of the operators platform and padding saves fatigue concerns. Cut quality is top tier. I have 4 scags in total and wouldnt hesitate to buy another. Great machines
We run Exmark mowers, Lazer and Vertex. My dad ran Scag. Scag is definitely a quality mower. It'll lay down some grass. That particular Scag Turf Tiger is still going some 20 plus years later. My only drawback with Scag, and it's minor, is the blade change. Bolt through the bottom and a separate nut on top of the spindle instead of just a bolt underneath holding the blade on. I wish there were a dealer closer in our area. I'd be running Scag today. Good review Pete!
My initial thought on the Scag system was WTF, thought about it some more then saw the benefit of it just being a through bolt, easily replaceable and not having to deal with a spindle just because of a messed up bolt. If you use an impact wrench you only need to hit the top nut.
I run all scag what I have noticed best with the baffle adjustment if it’s lowered it has much better vacuum for lifting up blades of grass for a even clean cut, especially when at higher settings
I'm not a stander man, but that is the finest gathering of machines I've ever seen, on CZcams or anywhere.
I'm a Scag supporter at heart, but I'm also trying to support my local dealers and they're not reaching an agreement with Scag over pricing, I guess 🙄 so I haven't bought anything new from them yet. But after my experience with Exmark ( I'll reserve my negative comments 😂 ), Scag is next. Maybe I'll see if my dealer can work out some kind of warranty situation on just one or two machines, otherwise I'm gonna have to travel 40-60 minutes in either direction for an official Scag dealer.
If you lower the under deck baffle to the lowest setting, it will stripe as good as anything. Great review!
Scag team all the way!!
I’ve been waiting for these. Super excited to watch them ALL 10x over. lol
Been using scag for 5 years. Love them. But mostly because of my scag dealer. Hoover mowers in Benton KS treats me well!
Some things from a primary Scag runner. To address the height adjustment lever, it’s not as aggressive as it might seem. I don’t have very rough hands at all and it’s never caused an issue, never even thought about it till you mentioned it.
The adjustable baffle on the front is pretty sweet! For bagging and leaves, lower is better. For discharging and mulching, higher is better. I don’t recommend the bottom extreme for leaves though, it ca. end up pushing the leaves as opposed to getting them actually in the deck.
Had engine issues with the EFI. This isn’t a Scag issue, and it seemed to be a one off. Once the dealer messed with it, it was perfectly fine.
Adjustable standing platform is fantastic, and the leather knee pad is unmatched comfort, at least for a stander.
Cup holder is terrible. Don’t put anything in it unless you wanna loose it. A note on the bag/pouch on the other side, it can fill up with grass clippings and is kinda annoying to clean out.
Fantastic mowers, would definitely recommend.
Once the dealer messed with it , I love that comment 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
That battery placement really sucks 👎🏼
Best mower review ever
Just bought myself one. Pick it up Monday. Then i saw this review. Thanks Pete!
Round 5 qt pan slides right under the oil drain hose from the back
Good morning, What a great coffee drinking, early morning video to start with. I do agree with you regarding the SCAG V-Ride deck adjustment control. It's like a cheese grater on the hand and heavy to work on a daily basis. It would be great if SCAG could put a rubberized cover on the deck adjustment control handle. Great review!
For real! That thing hurt my hand and my hands are hard as a rock i can only imagine what it would do to someone with softy hands...
Gotta find a vRide 2 and try that out, see what I think 😂
You could always use a long funnel and dump the oil in the funnel leading to the oil can. I have one that's a foot long. I could see that working perfectly. I don't own a scag bTW. I own a ferris Z1 48" x 23hp vanguard .and I love it!! Thanks for all your videos Pete!!
Great review
Great video been a scag fan for a long time we run them at work and they so far have the best cut quality. They just came out with a new vride
Re: Oil drain location.... no need to go in front of the tire and out the side.....just put a 2qt drain pan on the inside of the left tire and drain away.....the flatter 2qt pan will slide under the operators platform along the inside of the tire.....drain tube will go right into the pan :) We love our Vride! It has some initial build issues the first 100hrs with lots of nuts/things coming loose, after that its been bulletproof with the 37hp briggs. We opted for the Tweels and love it.
Dropping the baffle down increases suction/lift under the deck. On well maintained grass you get better stripes and less blowout, with the tradeoff being poorer quality of cut on longer grass. Vice versa when raising the baffle.
I think these are sort of a competition. I had a Scag walk behind. An old one. I really liked it. Just for home use. I think this should have made your finals faves.
I love my Scag VRide 52!
Another awesome video Pete as always. I wish you would have talked about changing the drive belt that’s the one that will give you problems .
You re gonna have to put a bottle water in that cup holder. 😂😂😂 no more sun drops!
LOL
Great review, Pete! As a Scag user for the past three seasons and an ambassador for the brand, you pointed out everything perfect!
I know Scag has taken my business to the next level and has made me more productive. One thing I also know is that Scag is a company that cares for and listens to the end user, by constantly trying to improve on what they’ve produced. In the four years I’ve owned my machines, multiple small revisions have been made to better serve the end user. I can’t think of a better turf expert for this series!
God bless in all you do!
The adjustable plate on the front underside of the deck also helps with grass blow out.
Hey Pete, loving the reviews, got to ask though what made you decide on doing each machine individually on each video rather than each category per video. Love the videos keep on keeping on man.
you can take the built from the top of the butting blade that is connected to the long shafter. That hold the blade in place.
Changing the blades on a scag is completely different than any other mower. I think you missed that part. Nice review 👍🏼
We love our Vride, but you forgot to talk about greasing it. Greasing the spindles is a pain, I wish they were sealed like Wright mowers or way easier to get to.
I love my scag vride. It is the best mower I have ever owned
What brand stand on zero turn stripes the best?
I have 6 scag mowers and the baffled on the deck catches our trailer sometimes when it’s all the way down. Also it gets hit more when down and bent
Been considering a Vride
Can I get that little ruler on your website? Odd question sorry
Where did you get your rulers from????? Looking for parade advertising!
Awesome, Pete. Been looking forward to this since last summer. God bless you brother. Scags the best in terms of cut quality.
Engine Oil drain hose is perfect length if you just put the oil drain pan under machine - no need to pull that hose out to the side. Very easy.
Yeah buddy popcorn is ready! Owned 2 scags, hope they rock this!
Got two Scag 30’s
Pete, what was the procedure in your reviews to establish the number ratings? Did you use all the machines first and then make your ratings based upon the other manufacturers or just started rating them 1 by 1. Which would be a little unfair to the machines later in your reviews as those would be judged against the previous models. For example you rate the Scag a 10 on mow quality as the first review but what happens if one of the machines later in your reviews mows better than the Scag? Do you rate that mower higher than 10 or do you go back and lower the Scags mow quality rating?
Based on 20 years of cutting high end well maintaiomed turf that what I based it on it was plenty fair
Difficulty raising and lowering the deck was why we passed on this mower. Otherwise, it was a good mower.
On the height of cut handle, for me yes, the texture is rough, but the biggest thing is the angle, you have to lean back to get a proper grip on it. Not very ergonomic in my opinion.
Scag rules
SCAG
60” turftiger 34hp brigs. Bought in a thunderstorm cutting an over grown lawn at full speed no clumps. Not only does. The Scagg lay down some serious stripes. Once you take this stupid plastic deflector off the shoot it spreads them clippings out like nothing else.
Toro mowers also have the oil tube
Dam these are long. Can we get a results video?
I have one 61” vride with 38hp kohler. Very powerful mower. Only complaints are the stiff forward controls, little scalping issues(most likely from 61” deck being wider than the wheelbase) and most importantly for me which may be a deal breaker is the height of cut only going to 4.5” at best. Limits curb hopping and cresting onto trailers off of tailgates.
Don’t forget to mention how well each “stripes”
28:00 mins in talks about stripes
First!
The battery placement on these is horrible 🎉
I’m poor. I only have a Honda push mower. 😞 😂
If it gets the job done, that's awesome.
The blade accuracy isn’t accurate. Go back and look to see that the bottom of the blade is the actual cut height. Those measurements are at the top. Its minor but not 100% accurate.
If you give something that rides rough and goes off track an 8 then you don't leave yourself much room for things that go well. If you give something a 9 that you like which is really good considering a 10 is perfect then it doesn't make sense that the thing that goes bad gets an 8. Otherwise all the mowers will be absolutely the best just because we are protecting the American family. If a person has a bad experience and it is legitimate then it should be stated as such to keep other families who also work hard to keep food on the table from losing their hard earned money on poor equipment. You protect one family at the expense of another. How about just be honest if a commenter has a bad experience and God will make a way for those families as long as we're honest. I wouldn't feel right selling people substandard equipment and keeping my mouth shut just because it is American made. The American made is supposed to be the selling point. If you have to hide bad experiences then it isn't real and may as well come from China.
sorry i suck at this... you can do the next stand on review series yourself so its legit
@@GCITurf I love you man, you've given me a lot :)
@@PrincernPrince I love you as well friend. I apologize if I was rude. Just a little sideways on this is all.
