@@goldbergvidsironically enough they made some sense logically, if you take dragons witch are mythical creatures then it makes sense that they would be weak to literal magic kinda like the source is stronger then the carriers and fighting, well what’s martial arts doing in comparison to magic and if you interpret steel as society then magic as nature then either can be super affective against each other, although I don’t see any good reasons for poison, ice and bug
I don’t understand the reasoning behind fairy and dragon, but I can understand the reasoning for dark and psychic as those are connected to the mind and emotion and likely aren’t reliant on their senses, flying seems like a stretch mainly because of its dual nature but I can see sound resisting it because sound is just vibrating wind

The thing about the magic type is that it’s confusing. It’s like having a “magic element” in a fantasy element magic system: everything they do is essentially magic, so what’s the distinction? Is it just some sorta arcane energy? That would be the fairy and/or psychic type though, so what would the magic type really be? Most of the types function as an element of sort.

Giving a move the ability to flinch every single opponent in the field is beyond broken, infinitely more than Fake Out.
For one, Fake Out is single target and can only be used in the first turn the user is sent out, while this can be used every two turns.
You're basically giving any mon the ability yo set-up Trick Room or any boosting move for free in Doubles.
Not only that: the fact this has +4 priority makes it impossible to block if the user doesn't either have Shield Dust or a Covert Cloak.

The challenge arises when introducing a sound and magic type, as it intersects with the existing normal and fairy categories. Abilities like Liquid Voice and moves such as Boomburst fall under the sound type, while moves like Substitute and Throat Chop counteract sound-based strategies, essentially creating a need for an entirely new type. Attempting to categorize sound as a subcategory of normal and designating fairy as the magic type has been explored by Pokémon previously. However, the fairy type itself is intended to encapsulate magical elements, making it a broader classification than just magic alone. While fairies are often associated with magic, it's essential to recognize that they embody various characteristics beyond a singular theme.

I've been working on a fanmade Pokémon region and I personally added a blood type. I felt the themes of the type (blood, organs, predators, and brutality) fit the darker tone of the plot, and the resistances and weaknesses help buff and nerf some types.
Super effective against: Fairy (because fairies are generally small enough to become easy prey to carnivorous animals), Fighting (because punching things requires muscles and blood flow to the arms), Psychic (because blood is a common fear), and Dragon (because of quite a few mythological dragon-slaying weapons being forged from a dragon's blood)
Not very effective against: Steel (the trope of knights and warriors using their own blood or pain as a source of power), Ice (because of the effects extreme temperatures have on the body), Fire (because of the effects extreme temperatures have on the body), and Poison (because poison can really mess you up if it gets into your bloodstream)
No effect against: Ghost (because ghosts don't have blood, as well as blood mysteriously appearing on walls from thin air being a trope in horror movies that feature paranormal phenomena)
Resistant to: Steel (iron is in the blood), Fairy (because fairies are generally small enough to be easy prey to carnivorous animals), Blood (because you can't out-hemomancy a hemomancer), and Dark (because of the concept of bloodlust)
Weak to: Fire (because of the effects extreme temperatures have on the body), Ice (because of the effects extreme temperatures have on the body), Poison (because poison can really mess you up if it gets into your bloodstream), and Bug (because haha funny mosquito go "bzz bzz SSSSSLLLLLLLUUUUUUURRRRRRPPPPP")

I personally like the idea of a data/cyber type. It doesn’t step on a whole lot of existing types since the only existing ‘mons that it would apply to are things like Porygon, maybe some of the more robotic Steel types and future paradox Pokemon, and I guess I could see arguments for some man-made ‘mons (I wouldn’t include Ditto or plain old ‘object Pokemon’ though).
Otherwise I think it’d be pretty fresh, and while adding types just for the comparative effect may be ill advised, I’d would like to say that arguments could be made for how it could be strong against some of the best types like Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, or Steel, while also weak against some of the worst types like Poison, Bug, Ice, or Rock without feeling like we’re just adding the interactions to balance type charts. (Those types are still considered respectively good & bad right? I don’t actually keep up with competitive so I only know the really good & really bad types.)
Still, preference over it and something like a Sound type may depend on what a person wants from a new type. Do you want something that’s new and doesn’t take away from existing types while interacting with them; or do you want something that can easily be added, applied to old pokemon and old moves, and just slide in like it was always there. Looking around, it seems opinions on this can vary.

None of these would really work as types. Sound already has too many moves and mechanics associated that would require massive overhaul and rebalancing to be it's own type, Magic (as you said) overlaps with Psychic and Fairy too much, and Cyber would just be far too restrictive of a concept since it'd require making tons of man-made Pokemon just to fill it with far more abstract designs that couldn't work for other types. Also, outside of what happened to the Rotom forms in gen 5, the only type that would ever be replaced for a new one would be Normal, as that is what happened when Fairy was introduced.

I dunno. Adding in a sound type just feels pointless and is a bit too specific. I mean, literally everything makes sound, so how are you gonna decide who gets the type outside of obvious picks. There's also the problem that adding another type may not fix anything except ensuring a new top dog. We don't need to mess up the type chart by adding in yet another type. But hey, maybe I'm wrong.

  • @Bundeskaiser
    @Bundeskaiser Před 6 měsíci +6

Sound would be the only logical new type for me. Problem is that the type chart is already messed up and every time Gamefreak introduces a new type to fix it, things become even worse. You could make a point that Steel and Dark weren't even necessary considering the broken mechanics of Gen 1 and the absence of good Bug Pokémon / Moves to use against Psychic types. But at the very least Fairy was completely unnecessary (just buff Ice and stop making more and more broken Dragons) and just replaced 1 broken type with another one.
Your suggestions are very random, though. I mean Sound strong vs. Water, Fairy and Electric. Why? What's the logical reason? I could probably see water, as water is a conductor of sound. But why Fairy and Electric? And weak to Dragon? Makes no sense at all. And your argument for why Poison should be effective against Sound is more a reason why Poison should resist it. I could also see Bug resisting or even being immune to it. But overall, creating some "logical" type interactions with Sound isn't that easy.
Chimeco would be interesting as a Sound/Steel type.
For Magic: not a fan of this type. But not mentioning Alakazam as an obvious choice for a Pokémon getting the Magic type is a crime.

I got some ideas for new types... Sort of.
1: NPC (Non Pokemon Creatures): These are almost normal animals. The smaller ones almost function like pokeberries. The larger ones... There is a spell (from somewhere) that makes them self replicate into a small army.
Berserkers: Humans that are not afraid to fight Pokemon directly. They mostly throw projectiles (seen in legends of Arcious). There strongest weapon is a Warball, the only weapon that could hurt a Pokemon.

Sound is the one I like the most out of those 3, pokemon with 2 types already could get the dhelmise treatment and have a "third type" as an ability, but I dont think it works with the current type chart
Magic wouldn't fit since special and physical is already a thing(yet meowscarada is a physical attaker for some god forsaken reason)
Cyber just feels weird, its less of a type and more of a classification kinda thing, like egg groups and such, it doesn't make sense for it to take/deal more damage because it is artificial/fake
Tbh, all 3 types suggested in this video are already in game some way or another, it becomes more of a "where do you draw the line" situation, if sound becomes a type, why shouldn't spores become a type? We have many mushroom inspired mons.
Same for cyber, why dont we also get a mollusk type for all of those water mons that aren't water? The answer is that they already are in the water 1, water 2 and water 3 egg group, (I dont remember if there is a water 4)
Returning to sound, magic and the forementioned spores, the answer is that they are merely the shape an attack takes, not the force that fuels the attack, lets take mythology for an example: If sound was a type, there would be no difference from the hypnotic voice of a mermaid and the voice of a regular human being.
Back to pokemon, personally, I hate ground type, but their relationship to eletric, rock and steel makes them work, because its not that the attack is grounded, the attack is made from the ground, such as dirt that absorbs and dissipates electricity and overwhelming pressure that can destroy rocks and minerals
    Thoughts?

I can see Ludicolo replace the Water-type for the Sound-type sense its design doesn’t entirely say “Water-type” outside of it being based on a Kappa, Vibrava, along with Flygon, could get rid of the Dragon-type sense it is known as the “Desert Spirit” and would more likely require the Ground-type over the Dragon-type, and Toxtricity could get rid of the Poison-type for the Amped form and the Electric-type for the Low Key form.
If anyone wants to reply with another Pokémon that seems unclear to replace the Sound-type for another type that isn’t the Normal-type or add on to a single typed Pokémon, feel free to tell me.

As for Magic, you could easily look at Dungeons and Dragons for some inspiration. Magic could be a great type for causing various status effects with their unique attack, among others, examples of some moves:
Magic Missile - This is your 2-5 hit move, technician would of course work here.
Mystical Fire would be changed to Magic type, and would cause burn. Or it would be a Magic move thats also Fire type.
Illusion - This is your Protect or Detect for Magic types.
Mystical Chill - Weaker attack with a chance of Frostbite (which should return over Frozen)
Witch's Brew - Throws a damaging cocktail that could poison thee target.
Enchanted Binding - Like Magic's Wrap or Fire Spin.
Magic Bolt - A Shot of Magical Lightning that may cause paralysis.
Magical Terrain - Creates a field of Magical properties. It makes any Normal type moves and Pokemon become the /Magic type and increases all moves and power by 30%.

Then I’d have a Cosmic type, that would be immune to Sound, and also be Super effective against it, but it would be extremely weak against Artificial type, as human creations litter space as space junk, and also we make probes and spaceships to traverse space.

Right now, I think that a new type is least likely to happen because the Fairy type still hasn't really been fully optimized. It's still very much lacking in a lot of aspects. Even now, the only good physical move I know of is Play Rough. Sure, more can still be added in games to come, but it would just feel unfinished if another type was added before we got anything truly decent to better round it out.
For me, the Sound type might be somewhere near the bottom of potential types that would be added. This is mainly because, in all honesty, it makes most sense for majority of sound based attacks to affect most fairly the same, whether it's operating from the perspective of simply being sound or vibration, just like the Normal type. Not to mention, it would also be taking a lot of fairly good moves from other types that could use them, specifically the Normal type. The biggest detractor for the Sound type would be that it might run a little too similarly alongside the Normal type. The only thing I can give it, is that it shouldn't be too much work to overhaul and reprogram certain interactions within the games since there are already moves and abilities that focus on such, but where's the fun and point in that?

Rather than adding a sound type, I would like to see a "move +" mechanic where pokemon all get improvements to moves that are considered iconic to that Pokemon. So Pokemon who would want to get the sound type, such as Exploud, Toxtricity, Jigglypuff, Noiverne, etc., will get moves like "Hyper Voice +", which may improve the power by 50%. This could extend to other Pokemon moves as well. Maybe Blastoise will get "Flash Cannon +" which has 50% improved power, Hypno will get "Hypnosis +" which has improved accuracy, Electrode will get "Explosion +" which stuns Pokemon for one turn, etc.

Spartan: These Pokemon represent military like elements. They are strong against dark and weak against bug.
Jedi: These Pokemon represent creatures in the Star Wars franchise. They are strong against ghost and weak against dark.
Energon: Pokemon that represent elements in the Transformers franchise. They are strong against electric and steel and weak against ground and flying.
Roger: Pokemon that represent the old rubber hose cartoons. They are only weak against poison and dark.

The perfect magic type move has existed in the game since gen 1. It's called Metronome. Whenever you use Metronome it summons a random move. In gen 7 if you activate a normelium Z thus using Z-Metronome, the move that has been selected will become the random Z-move type it has summoned, creating some very unique moments!

    I'd love a Glass type.
Translucent parts on any character is cool af, and having shards of glass sticking out of their body or flung at opponents seems sick.
There's no current Pokémon that would make a good Glass type, but there weren't any Pokémon retroactively made Dark type either.
Mirror shot, move, & coat would become glass type. There's an argument for camouflage and Keckleon become glass type too since they turn translucent.

what i would do if i was gamefreak's ceo:
Combine rock and ground types into one earth type (and obviously balance out the type charts and try and mend pokemon who has both types or had one of the types but now just got heavily nerfed or buffed. That would be a challenge fr and thats why this will never happen)
split flying into flying and air types. Not really a spilt but some are flying because there birds and others are flying because they use the element air and i just think thats dumb. With the new flying typing ill make them have some interesting relationships with the other "animal" types and might keep there ground immunity. And with the air type imma just link it where it should have been originally... with the other damn elements.
add sound type. For obvious reasons
add a light type. This ones less popular because its too hard to differentiate it from the fairy and psychic types but i plan on changing the whole type chart to make it more balanced anyways so ill find a way to squeeze in the light type.
this ones the most interesting but obviously its been suggested before like a lot in fact its one of the most popular "new types" suggestions) and thats the cosmic/space type. It just makes a lot of sense and is so cool as well.
and with this there are now 21 types(earth type combined 2 types and flying created 2 types so overall a net 0 types added and i added 3 new types so that 18+3=21)

Light type is the only type that could ever be implemented. It has around 30 mons that work for it, and almost all don’t have to have a type get replaced for it to work. It can make sense to be a separate type since it represents both physical light and divinity(similar to fighting, but definitely different) and it can fix a ton of the type chart. It can be supereffective on fairy, dark, and ghost since divine beings overpower minor fairies or smth and dark and ghost is obvious. Then it can be resisted by bug, ice, and grass since bugs are attracted to and enjoy light, ice and snow can reflect and deafen light, and grass absorbs light. Definitely would be my choice for a new type, but I wouldn’t want it until like gen 11-12

  • @AZ-697
    @AZ-697 Před 6 měsíci +2

Sound and Light Type aren’t needed. The Sound Type does not make sense. Any element can make sound including two rocks banging together. Make more sound-based moves. Based on your reasoning making Electric weak to Sound you might as well have Normal be weak to Sound as well. Flying immune to sound makes absolutely no sense.
The Magic Type is irrelevant. Fairy is Magick, Psychic is Magic. Notice the difference. Fairy types are creatures found in fairy tales. Psychic types are intelligent big brains. No pure Psychic Type was turned into Fairy but pure Normal Pokémon were.
There are better ways to balance the type chart than new types.

As a long time pokemon fan (since i was 2 years old, and could turn on the tv all by myself), i've been fascinated by pokemon and their types, and what secrets these hide
as of late, i've come to think on the possible reasons and inspirations behind each type
and recently, thanks to people like Lockstin Truegreen and Hoops, i've come to understand that
all pokemon types are interpretations of either:
    - Turn based RPG Magic/Special combat abilities and their damage
    - Common/known RPG enemies
(sure with a few other add on themes in there, so not every type stays as reductive as Gen 1's Bird type)
    So
If i were to add new pokemon types
    i've got 6 in mind
each honoring the base idea of "it should show up on an (turn base) RPG before being added to pokemon"
    3 are "Magic Type" Themed
and the other 3 are "Production" Themed
    These are:
    - Sound (yes the first one mentioned in the vid), not only as a direct representative for the "Wind/Air" element in pokemon, but also, a representation to "Spell Chanting" and Bard characters in RPGs
    - Light (yes another old fan favourite one, however), Since trying to Define "Light as Light" gets a bit *iffy for most people, i'd say, Light is: Luminescence, Radiation, Intense colorfullness, near divinity, (and since i'm a fan of the original Homestuck story, i'd be remiss if i didn't add), Luck
Light would represent "Holy Magic/Skills" in RPG terms, mostly since the poke that currently represents that being the Fairy/Psychic bunch, don't really fit the bill very well
    - Void (this is where i start getting ACTUALLY personal), This one's a bit harder to understand, but, bare with me here...
There are tons of sugestions for Time, Space, Dimension, Monster, Demon, Abberation, Alien, and many other kinds of types that are basicly just 1 thing, being suggested by many fans out there, but not really having much of a leg to stand on, soooo i thought to myself, "Why not make a type that incorporates all of that"
So, I thought of a middle ground for it all, as the "Void" type, the type the represents that which is so far Past Normal, even for the World of Pokemon, that they are defined as "Freaky/Weird by nature"
    This being:
    - - Creatures that can survive in the Time_Stream/Vacuum_of_Space/Void_Between_Dimensions
    - - Beings that embody whole lesser dimensions, or just have the power to open portals to them
    - - Species that look Lovecraftian/Frankensteinish/Alien
    - - Lifeforms that come from places so mind boggling, that even Psychic/Dark/Ghost/Fairy types, can't beguin to handle them
I also thought of this type, as another slap on Fairies and Psychic types, but also, as a type that's weak to Normal, mostly since "How do you beat the Unknown and what you fear live in the dark? You learn to make it part of your day to day, and normalise it"
The "Magic" this type represents, is Eldrich in nature, it is the magic of non-demonic and non-spiritual curses, powers that come from "somewhere else", things that usually only the highest form of "Light magic" can disperse
(The RPGs that help this work as a possible entry for Pokemon, are games like the Fear and Hunger series)
(and for the 3 production types)
    - Plastic (both in the sence on the man made material, and in the sence of "highlly maliable"), this type would represent pokes that exist as 1 with human cities and settlements, and with that, they were either:
    - - Man Made, engineered in some lab/factory
    - - Creatures that mutated over time, to mimmic something only found in industrial centers
    - - Creatures that phisicly represent man made only objects/materials/processes
This type encompasses everything Cyber, Digital, Mimic, Rubber, Plastic, Toy.
It's ment to represent RPGs like Off, where 1 of the world's core elements is Plastic, which defines most of your enemie's main bodies
It relates to living toys, like Banette, and Stufful, things that weren't ment to be pokes, but still came to be that way, like Porigon and Ditto
    - Paper, the antithesis of Plastic, Paper also relates to "made pokemon", only these are pokes that relate to "processes once thought to only be man made, only for them to be found in nature", Like Paper
(Wax, Tools, Medicine, Homes, Language), however, they also relate to "older ways of man made products that have fallen out of fashion", making them a possible stand in for a "Object that gainned a soul"-type, mostly so that Ghost isn't the only one with that kind of stuff
The kinds of RPG enemies it represents, are also connected to a type of magic, that being "living paper" enemies, Spell Tag monsters, and magic circle enemies
giving it a light edge as another possible magic type
(also, most of the REAL reason it justifies itself, is due to the Paper Mario series)
    - Food, a type i'm mostly considering seing that the number of pokes that activly look like food/are canonicly eaten, is 2ce over double digits now. + How Miitopia and many other "gag-like RPGs" introduced food based enemies.
This type serves as a weak type against most "Creature types" in pokemon, Including Normal, since most creatures would have the power to eat unabated.
    However!
It could have some surprising strengths, like bing super effective against: Fighting, Dark, Fairy, Poison
    Mostly since:
    - Eating too much can ruin your training's results
    - Lots of tales of Demons/Fairies alike being tamed and pacfied with some noms
    - Food can't die from being poisoned, but it can sure kill you
As a basis for the type idea
and those would be the types i'd add
I thank you for you patience/time, in reading this comment
    hope you a great day/noon/evening/night
    AND
if you have any opinions, add ons to my concept(s), or counterpoints against some of my ideas
i'd be open to read them in the replies

In order for a new type to work, I think it should have the following traits
    * It should help types that are suffering with interactions and nerf types that are too overpowered. So being weak to Bug and Ice but strong against Fairy and Steel is a good start. Steel and Dark were added to balance the Psychic type. Fairy was meant to balance the Dragon type but ended up being a bit too good at its job
    * It needs to be a concept that you can easily slap on to a bunch of past Pokemon and have it fit. Maybe consider some of the egg groups for inspiration? Fairy used to be specifically an egg group. I could see a "Beast" type (there could be a better name) with a bunch of Pokemon in the monster and field egg groups
    * Speaking of retconning types, it seems they are only willing to completely change the Normal type. They were fine adding the Fairy type to previously mono-types, but there was absolutely no switching of a non-Normal dual type to Fairy
    * Think carefully not to overshadow an existing type. Don't make the same mistake Fairy made when it stole Psychic's job

Personally I think if Pokemon ever adds new types it should probably cap at 20 (I am not counting the stellar type since it’s a gimmic, same reason we don’t say there’s 20 types cause of shadow and ???) I think the criteria for the types needs to be that they buff weaker types and hinder newer types, give enough creative freedom to create a ton of Pokémon, and can easily be slapped onto pre exsisting pokemon. That’s why I think the two next types should be sound and cosmic as there’s already a sound mechanic and space pokemon have existed since gen 1. They could even introduce them simultaneously and show off the wigglytuff line as part sound and clefable line as now part cosmic. A lot of people say that “oh those types are covered by normal and psychic” but like…. All of what fairy is conceptually was covered by psychic. It makes more sense to not have space themed pokemon all be psychic type anyway as they’ve already split the magic vs mental part with fairy. For normal, normal has always been the type they use when nothing else fits. Like there’s no reason for the clefable line to be normal but it is, or the exploits line. The sound mechanic already existing makes sound the perfect next type. Cosmic a close second

Pokemon should add traits instead. Think of it like a secondary set of types that can overlap with what we had before but also get super specific without the need to dramatically change the formula. Then you could have a Toxtricity with its OG types but the sound "trait" on top of it.

9:31 There is only one sense here to add a type based on some yet unknown material or on the cyber level - an evil team. Because here you can stuff yourself with a lot of resistances and immunities, and give the ability to damage him only to certain types, as Crimsonite did in Koromon. These "alien materials" and "human-developed cyber Pokemon" are made to completely destroing their original, as was the case with Mewtwo, Ditto, and Porygon, who was just joking.
I think, what you just put them a elektro resist / weakness and someone else, but i think in another way.

I always thought SOUND type could be added as there were so many Sound based Pokemon and Moves already.
I disagree with MAGIC as like others say, it is already redundant with the PSYCHIC and FAIRY TYPE.
For the CYBER Type, I would change it to TECH (as in technology because for me CYBER means Cyberspace which doesnt correspond to others aside from Porygon line). I agree with those pokemon mentioned in this video to be included in the TECH type.
I would personally would like to add SPACE or ASTRO type which will include pokemon from out of this world. Pokemon included are Clefairy (Astro/Fairy), Minior (Astro/Rock), Lunatone (Astro/Rock) and Solrock (Astro/Rock), Elygem and Beheeyem (Astro/Psychic) Deoxsys (pure Astro), the Ultra Beasts (Astro/secondary type) and others. This will be immune to Psychic, Resists Dark, Normal and Fighting but is Super Effective to Fairy, Sound and Ground.

The thing about these typings is that they feel like subtypes at best. Sound type honestly feels weird to be a different category when there are sound based moves in different typings. Unless they introduce two-type moves, Sound type still feels lacking to become a real typing because it would share most of it's moves with other typings, making it just a visible type but not as prominent as other typings. If there's any typings I can consider as possible typings would be Light and Wind. Sure Wind is already incorporated in Flying type moves but I honestly think Flying and Wind should be separate, like Flying type moves should be more contact focused while Wind is more non-contact focused. As for Light, argument of it being Fairy type doesn't feel right at all. We know that in the Japanese version of Pokemon, Dark type is known as the Evil type so why shouldn't we make a Good type as Light? It will sadly add another strong typing against Dark but it would be fun if Dark is also strong against it.

Fiend type pokemon are largely evil.
4x weak against fairy and dragon.
Resists dark, fire, water, electric, grass, rock, ground, steel.
    4x strong against dark, ghost.
Does neutral damage against everything else.
Angel types: are more on the defensive side.
    Resists ALL types by 20%.
Does neutral damage to ALL types.
Majority of Angel type moves are supportive/healing/defensive, like dance of light, which increases all stats by one stage of all allies in battle.
Or the move truce, which prevents all pokemon from using damaging moves for 3 turns. (Good for setting up, eh?)
It only has a few offensive moves.
Like rain of light, which hits all opponents 2-5 times with 15 base power.
But majority of ALL its moves affect all pokemon, like all allies or all opponents.
