MY TEDx TALK

Taking a photo of your wheelchair is a great idea. Photos of all 4 sides!
We take photos of our suitcases before they get checked at the desk.
You are very brave in traveling in your wheelchair. I wish you all a beautiful time in Florida. Safe travels!
Getting wheelchair insurance is a great idea Gem I will look into that for next year’s flight to Orlando!
In the last 3 minutes, finally you start making your wheelchair aeroplane proof.. :")
You are such an inspiration and your efforts to educate are marvelous! Hopefully things went quite well.
You filmed the first part on my birthday!!!!!
You are literally trip planning goals! I love this and Disney is my favorite place to go ever!!!!
I just cannot take my eyes off your hair! It's so gorgeous, you take great care of it 🌻
with the frame you could also use pool noodles with the hole in the middle
Mikayla Appleton pool noodles are about £20 for one so there quite expensive.
Omg! This was an amazing video! I wish I had thought of the washing my chair and labeling my seat guards. Long story short, last time I flew I lost a seat guard and on top of that, I was pulled out of line bc they “detected explosive” materials on my hands. Seeing your video now, it all makes sense that it could have been oils/gas that transferred onto my hands from my wheels. All in all, we ended up being 15minutes later than we already were due to an early connecting flight. 🤦♂️I will keep these tips in my “back pocket” sorta speak. 😎👍 You can DM me for this part, but have you ever been on a flight lasting longer than your natures calling needs for the bathroom while in flight? And if so, do flight attendants have a way to move you to the already too small for abled body person bathroom? I’m always afraid of taking extremely long flights cause I am not sure how this would be handled.
Thank you again. Your videos are soooooo helpful. I'm subscribing.
11:19 cleaning the silicone push rim covers
With my rollator walker from a couple of months after I started using it, I noticed the grime build up on the handles of it. So to keep them clean, I regularly clean them with Kleenex Anti-Bacterial Wipes. Maybe they would be a worthwhile idea to try on the push rim covers to keep them clean.
It made things funny going shopping during COVID though. I was always refusing the front of store sanitizing products, as I had everything already in my bag, and used them regularly, and still do.
I use lot's of bubblewrap :)
So brilliant thank you
I'm a bit late catching up on your videos Gem and realise you're back now, but for future use theres absolutely no need to cut pipe lagging, there's already a pre made split that runs down the side to open it up, hopefully you found it but if not for next time just open the the hole a bit wider at one end and it will reveal itself , looking forward to catching up on the Disney videos . Dawn xxx
So cool! I wish you were coming to Boston!!!!!
That was great! My son perhaps will move very far and then l'd need a plaine sometimes. But not only to fly your tips are great, it is very useful for all times one has to pack, if for holidays or surgery, a lot we can need everyone! Thanks and be blessed!
👌👌👌
Where do you get the tire grips there awesome !!
Nice
I suggest checking with airport security about your liquids, and pain killers, specially any prescription.
Where did you get your grips from?
Hope you're having a great time! I'm a few states up the coast and it's really hot and humid here so I can imagine it is very muggy and hot down in Florida! I imagine it's a big climate shift compared to England. Drink lots of water and slather on the sunblock :)
They don't have the disney shuttle anymore in florida.
You can havescissors the blade just have to be small.
As you chair is a folding chair, for any flight to or from the US they legally have to allow it to be transported in cabin in the wheelchair closet. If there is no closet they have to put it in a row of seats. By doing this it's extremely unlikely for your chair to get damaged, I've been toying around with the idea of getting a folding chair as my chair has been broken every time I've flown. Twice in one trip even. They managed to bend the titanium frame. Three months later and we're still trying to get it fixed (or more likely replaced).
Could someone tell me the American version of Fairy Liquid? Thanks in advance!
Thanks :) really needed these tips!
My daughter has her wish trip to florida in october, my friends coming to help us, but my kiddo is going to be in her wheelchair and then we have two bags each and I have to push the wheelchair 😬
No idea how this is going to work hahaha
Could you help me with getting her wheelchair insurance please? :)
If your daughter's wheelchair is a folding chair it can be stored in cabin. Look up the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA)
Maybe see if you can get airport assistance service (: And have a lot of fun!!!
Dear Gem:
Have you considered using bicycle handle bar tape for covering those personal spots 😶?
It's cheap, flexible, easily replacable, and can look glamorous.
I am very partial to a -- carbon pattern, at present.
Do mix materials, in different areas --
Since there is no right, or wrong.
I used to use pipe lagging on my chair!! Frame protectors are expensive 👎🏻
Matt Agree Frame protectors are a total waste of money unless you can get them from the NHS. Another alternative is seatbelt protectors. They do the same job for an absolute fraction of the cost and you are quids in for the exact same look.
They can be easily made if you get some foam, strong outer material and a sewing machine.
Where are your push rim covers from?
When we fly with my partners power wheelchair, we remove the controller and take that in carry on luggage.
did daisy get supicous that you cleaned your chair?
You are so beautiful. You remind me of Emma Watson.
didnt knew you had a folding weelchair, but since its a folding one, and since the flight to usa is a long one and usually its bigger planes then, arent you just able to put it in the overhead storage
It definitely wouldn’t fit, and even if it did, I doubt they’d be happy using precious real estate inside the cabin for a chair.
DOUBLE CLONE Are you serious? Lol 😂
@@BellaAtkins It is precious to us.
@@BellaAtkins usually the overhead storage is bigger
@@doubleclone6108 bigger than what? It isn't bigger than the hold.
How do you get upstairs in a wheelchair
She has a chair lift and another wheelchair upstairs. And she also said that she usually moves downstairs in the morning and stays there until the evening.
0:40 You changed zoom levels very often at this point.
0:50 I most certainly have! :D
1:09 Just for the fun of it, I tried to scan that barcode, but it wouldn't work. :-)
2:06 This *little* number? :)
15:36 I have heard and read about it and even seen a video of it. I can't help but wonder if/when that will be improved on.
15:53 That is a brilliant idea!
Ordered grippoz- were nearly the same size as my 24” mountain bike tyres... so expensive and such a waste.
9 hours on a plane would be Hell to me - can't we just move America and Australia nearer the UK? I wish some benevolent billionaire would fund a wheelchair accessible airline where you could be able to move around in your wheelchair, then clamped down for landing. And they would have proper Disabled toilets.
Re: your wheelchair - I would have thought you'd have suspension caster forks.
You can also just use a pool noodle. Is that really how yall spell airplane over there?
That is how it's spelt in English. If that's how it's spelt in the USA, its just yet another word that's been simplified
