Airports are so large and busy and stressful that airport assistance is a must. I agree it’s not perfect but it is so much better than trying to manage alone 💜😊

January 2023 was the first time I used airport assistance and I was pleasantly surprised. I felt so much stress going to the airport for an international flight from the east coast in USA to the Philippines, my experience was almost without issue. I had a major problem in LAX California for my connecting flight but besides that nightmare, my trip was good. I was a little worried going through Taiwan for a connecting flight to Cebu Philippines. I must say EVA Air was spot on and got the job done. Arriving in Cebu Philippines I was treated so well. On my return flight I flew with Korean Air and they far exceeded my expectations. While I was sitting in the wheelchair waiting for the transport vehicle to take me to my connecting terminal in South Korea to go back to the states, the flight attendants exiting the plane all walked by me and wished me a safe trip home. That was so wonderful. Over all, Logan International Airport in my home state was excellent. LAX in California was bad, I can relate to the poor attitudes. It was my situation in LAX. Taiwan, Cebu Philippines and South Korea were excellent. I am no longer worried about international travel anymore. I will avoid going through LAX in the future :D

Thank you Elinor for this informative video. I will be using special assistance for the first time next month and didn't have a clue about the process.

I am terrified to fly because of everything you talked about. I would prefer to travel with my chair, but now I am worried that they’ll damage my chair and then not even care about it.

I'm with you there! Hate to fly...The way medical equipment is treated by many at the airlines is preposterous! With the price of most wheelchair being close to the price of a car, there is no way I am giving up my chair!

This video is perfect for me because my family has started talking about going on vacation later this year. Last year I went to Aruba and traveling to get there took two days (even though I live in the US). I didn’t have my wheelchair yet and had never used one. Somehow I was able to make it through the airports on pure adrenaline, and sleeping on all the planes. As I continue to get weaker though, I think standing and walking would be too much, and I want to be able to sightsee when I actually get to the said vacation spot, so I think I will probably end up bringing my own chair. I don’t know how American airports treat wheelchairs so 😬… I was wondering how the security check works, thanks for covering all the points!❤️

@@ElinorBrown the funny part is that you "can walk" with a cane so you don't NEED a wheelchair

@@anamegoesherea wheelchair isn’t needed just for people that can’t walk…even those that can walk with a cane need a chair as they are unable to stand for periods of time….I speak from personal experience…I have spinal degenerative disease, scoliosis and Fibromyalgia and where I can walk a short distance with a stick I can’t walk more than 20 metres and I can’t stand in a queue due to fatigue and severe pain….some of the distances you have to walk in an airport are a long way including going up and down steps…..this is why a wheelchair is needed…

Thank you for this video. You went into great detail. I need to travel from Rome, Italy to Jacksonville, FL. for my dad's 98th birthday with a stop in Charlotte. I can't climb any stairs or walk 30 meters without resting so I'll be very specific. I'm terrorized of being abandoned in an airport and missing my flight. I'll travel business class so I can rest on the transatlantic flights. Thanks again for the info and your advice.

@@ElinorBrown@ElinorBrown it was rubbish. They refused and said I had to go on the bus, sent my wife to get boarding passes even though they know I had to be there and kept getting bumped for people being late. Was not good.
