I graduated from berklee 22 years ago. Homework hasnt changed much. I was interested to see what the cafeteria looked like. I moved into the 150 mass ave dorm in September 1994. When I started there there wasn't even Internet yet. You had to go to the library and look everything up in like these encyclopedias
I will go here. I do declare, I'm up for this. This IS a thing I will do with my life. 👌

did you know much theory before going?? are the classes super hard? I don’t know any theory but still wanna go haha
I had very little theory experience! I played flute in my wind ensemble and had really basic knowledge. i’m in MAT (Music Application and Theory, beginner class) this semester which is a step below Harmony 1. it’s where a lot of students start here. you do not need to be crazy amazing at theory at all to attend :) musicianship comes first!

hey i wanna study music production and song writing but i've zero knowledge about them....so can i audition with vocal as my primary instrument(i've been training in classical music since i was 4 for almost 10 years...the only thing i know is to sing) and opt to major in the above majors if i get accepted.....i've always wanted to ask this question to a Berklee student and i find you very sweet.
I just committed to VCU... but berklee is my DREAM school. I’m kind of regretting not auditioning.. I am going to VCU for journalism.. and since I know some theory and stuff I can do music on the side but it bothers me that I could possibly be doing what I love everyday at such a beautiful institution and I settled... VCU has a music program too but I feel like if I’m going to do music it HAS to be at berklee lol. I was just scared to be broke after college and in debt because berklee is outrageously expensive.. and I wanted to have a degree to fall back on while doing music on my own time.. but I wish I could to music ALL THE TIME. I’m thinking maybe I could do a year or a semester at VCU and feel it out and if I still feel the same way.. I can transfer to berklee .. do you have any advice?

Are you talking about your pre-requisite classes that you are required to take for a year or just to learn? Because I believe you can only learn subjects in the arts
Yes they teach those subjects too
Yes there are a good amount of liberal arts requirements

Im thinking of attending Berklee, do you know if you have to choose like.... one instrument if that makes sense ? Lol, Like could you bring a ukulele and a guitar? And you mentioned piano, is that a necessity??? Thank you so much! Love your videos!!
so sorry it's taken this long!! Sadly, the one instrument thing is considered your "principal" instrument, so in some ways yes, in other ways no. My principal is "voice" and I auditioned on "voice" HOWEVER i brought a guitar as my accompanying instrument. Definitely email Berklee admissions about it, but I hope this helped a bit xx
Do you have classes specifically catered to your voice(is that ensemble?)? I want to write music, but also make sure my voice is being properly maintained. I saw you mentioned Cwp to a few people, do they focus on voice at all over there? Sorry for all the questions!
if you choose voice as your instrument then you will focus on it i believe

I really would like to try to get in Berklee College someday, but I'm really worried about my school grades, cuz they're not good. Also, I'm brazilian, and we didn't have any music classes at the school I studied. What do you think about that? Do they care about other subject's grades, like math or something?
I'm pretty sure they require a 4.0 GPA or somethn like that

Does Berkeley have academics or no?
Yes! Doing my Bachelor's in Songwriting means a good amount of Liberal Arts (including history, science, visual arts, etc) These classes help to break up the 24/7 music, I really enjoy them :)

do you have any tips for admissions?
Be yourself. That's probably my #1. following would be recognizing that there is an unspoken benefit in being CONFIDENT in yourself, even if you aren't yet. Audition with something you love. I'm a folk singer/songwriter, and that's exactly what I did. Try and learn some theory before if you have the time; a bit a preparation can only help you, but of course the song you choose is the #1 priority! Best of luck x
