Joe Satriani was Steve Vai's guitar teacher so that says a lot. My favorite jam is "Surfing With the Alien" which is right in line with Kel's review. it sounds like it's from outer space. Satriani is a virtuoso.

Besides being a great player, Joe is known for being the first guitar teacher of Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, Alex Skolnick (Testament), Larry Lalonde (Primus), Charlie Hunter(jazz), and others. The drummer and bass player here are 2/3 of the instrumental supergroup The Aristocrats. The other third is guitarist Guthrie Govan, who you heard soloing with Steven Wilson. Satriani and Vai both really like Govan's playing, and his technique and mastery of many different styles of music is impressive. Govan also has many instructional videos on CZcams. In one series he teaches how to play Steve Vai's "Tender Surrender" note by note. The bassist Bryan Beller toured with Vai, and along with the drummer Marco Minnemann also played with guitarist Mike Keneally, who also toured with Steve Vai. And Keneally was a guitarist with Frank Zappa after Vai left. Small world. You liked Minnemann so here is one of his drum solos :

Alex Saucedo... It kept my interest going after VH 1984 and Yngwie. I still feel, however, that Priest, Maiden, Dio & Ozzy will always be my faves because of vox. I mean, why not give Pat Metheny a listen? Greg Howe? Or the like? Satriani is great but, not workable. Vai, Buckethead, Johnson are about the same in my book.

Blackmore says he plays the wrong notes, and there's something wrong with that. Ritchie explains it in his Blackmore classic demeanor. Lol! Also, as we know Blackmore is a great player, but becomes lost in his world. He gets disconnected with his own fans, and band members like a hermit. As, Ritchie says in his like dismeanor. There's something wrong with that.

Before starting a solo career, Joe had established a name as a guitar teacher, with Kirk Hammett becoming one of his most famous clients. You know you are established when Steve Via goes to you for lessons AFTER having worked for Frank Zappa.
There is a cliche in TV/movies when the student meets the teacher. "I taught him everything he knows, but I didn't teach him everything I know." Joe's philosophy was, if you are going to teach, be prepared to teach everything. Hold back no secrets or tricks, or you will fail as a teacher.

Even though his guitar virtuoso music has a lot of fireworks and amazing technique, he is really known for his soulful playing. Love Thing is an example of that and one of the first songs I heard from him. Who needs vocals when you have a guitar that sings? Mike Keneally (keyboards and guitar) is great. Check out Steve and him trading solos in The Attitude song (first G3 line-up).

There is an amazing live video on CZcams of Mike Keneally covering Zappa's Inca Roads live on an acoustic guitar Highly recommended if you are familiar with the song.

1st of all, I have to say I always have the same reaction when I watch your videos : I love the way you look at each other, you are too cute. ^_^
I have been a huge fan of Joe Satriani for many many years, about 25 years, maybe more.... I was excited to watch your reaction to one oh his song, and I am not disapointed. Or maybe just by the choice, because it's not one of my favorite, but who cares ?!? ^_^ I hope you will react to some other song of his, it would be great.
Keep on rocking in a free world ! 😜

A little tidbit: Joe doesn't have a regular band. He has a core group of many talented people that he uses depending on who's available at the time.
