    About this video:
Hi I'm optometrist Martin Oguzie and this is Martin's Eye Tips. In this video, I will give you my quick update after using bromelain every day for the last 3 months. I'm keeping this one nice and short. In the quest to experience eye floaters no more, sufferers are trying all manner of things. As an optometrist and an eye floater sufferer myself, I have taken it upon myself to look into and try a select few products that appear to have some research-based support for their benefit. Bromelain pineapple extract is one such product that is being talked about a lot, so I'm trying it and sharing my observations from an eye care professional's point of view.

You should have continued taking it. The movement is already a good sign. Becoming more fluid is also a good sign, that means they are dissolving. Been taking bromelain for almost 2 years now and let me tell you, 95% of my floaters are gone except for a small one that is previous a large weiss ring.

@@meyetips I have similar floaters as you do by your drawing. Been researching this for a while and I think this supplement thing might be doing something good. It probably makes your vitreous fluid more smooth which eventually should start to break up the collagen build ups (floaters). But the interesting thing here that I see nobody mentions and which would make your vitreous even more smoother, is guess what? Eye exercises. I think regular eye exercises would be even more benefitial than any kind of vitamins. I started doing the standard ones (focus change, eye ball movement in all possible directions) about a 15 days ago and will report how it's going.

I think stress is main reason behind eye floaters and flashes. Stress causes increased production of free radicals and cortisol in body, cortisol causes inflammation in whole body and free radicals causes degenerative changes in vitrious humour gel that lead to increased floaters in eyes. All these enzymes and amino acids are known to reduces cortisol level in body and has antioxidant effect which reduces free radicals. Kindly explore more about it and let us know your openion. I've had floaters forever (40 years at least) and, while they are just irritating not critical, I appreciate these videos. I just heard of this while taking the Maui Gold pineapple factory tour in Maui. I guess this substance is primarily in the part of the pineapple you don't normally eat so supplementation is required if you are trying to affect floaters. We'll see but thanks for doing this. If you can do a talk analyzing the studies that would be great.

I took MSM to open up the vitreous humor. Immediately I noticed the itchiness subsided and I got clearer vision and the inflammation in my left eye where the Weiss circle is swimming around subsided. I take 800 mg of bromelain before going to bed since ophthalmologist say in rem sleep there are more chances of retinal, detachment and bromelain can minimize the risks. I again added 500 mg of bromelain after three months use. I noticed the Weiss circle isn't that noticeable. It isn't as stark and defined. It has become a blurry circle although there are rare instances that it can appear stark. The flashes after three months have calmed down but I occasionally get them at dusk or when in dark places. I heard papain or taking papaya amplifies the effect of pineapple in dissolving protein. This makes sense. I eat papaya but pineapple is too acidic so I take bromelain instead. I can't agree with you more doc that I got this not only because of my myopia n advancing age but more from watching too much stuff in the computer screen during lockdown ....nothing to do. Now I placed anti blue light on all my gadget screens and I wear anti blue light shades outdoors. I also try to walk and limit browsing or watching t.v. . I do weights and it hasn't increased my floaters or flashes. But i avoid jogging. Hope in 6 months to a year floater disappears completely.

I add that I heard Vitamin E (800 units/day) helps. Maybe Vitamin C helps too. Vitamin A? I say Vitamin C as collagen is a protein and acids (ascorbic acid = vit. C) breaks down proteins (like the collagen in the floaters), and Vit. C seems to be something your body can absorb and not become too acidic as a result. (Just a theory.) It took a LONG time to develop floaters, maybe it takes a LONG time to get rid of them.

Here's a question for you guys. Did any of you actually improved with their floaters just by time? Let's say weeks, and months? Doctors say they tend to settle at the bottom of your vision overtime and/or that your brain learns how to cancel them and you don't notice them so much. I wonder if that actually happens to people or if they say that so you stay more calm and not so anxious about them. So what are your experiences with just waiting?

    I’m about to try this again, only on a new theory;
I read about the studies on this and most doctors say that bromelaine breaks down in the gut, and cannot actually get into the blood stream and subsequently, the eyes. This seems reasonable, but the studies with fresh pineapple report 70%+ participants reporting positive results.
Then I remembered that heart patients who use nitroglycerine tablets use them by dissolving the tablet under the tongue.
So my theory, is the useful bromelain is absorbed into the bloodstream in the mouth, not the gut (perhaps slower eaters who savor their pineapple see better results?) so my plan, as I do not have easy access to fresh pineapple, is to dissolve bromelain tablets under the tongue. Probably 2 tablets per day for 3 months. I have many large floaters which are extremely distracting, so if there is *any* effects I should be able to easily tell.
I will try and report back in a few months as to my findings.

I'm also about to try some emotional healing as I belief that our soul is deeply connected to our body. Might sound a little strange but who knows, right?

I have been taking bromelain for two months (1500 mg per day) and have noticed considerable changes in my floaters (I really don't know if that is good or bad)
My floaters that were like black dots have increased in size and have started to take on a grey tone instead of black. My floaters that were like cobwebs have started to expand and become almost transparent.
I don't know if it is really bromelain that has caused these changes or other factors. My hope is that somehow my floaters will dilute and be less annoying, unfortunately I am 20 years old and 70% of my vision is affected.
I think you should continue with the treatment for at least 3 more months to see if it really has any effect or not, also I have read that some people have taken taurine (1000mg per day) and it has helped them in some way by reducing the size of their floaters.

Eye floaters is caused by getting sick and most specifically gastrointestinal disease! Bromelain acts as hydrochloric acid which helps the digestion of food you eat all day! The improved digestion helps you feel better and helps prevent new floaters from forming. The gut-eye axis is weird but everything is connected in the body it should be no surprise now how a brief infection in the gastrointestinal tract can cause damage to the vitreous humor of the eye. Huh weird! But otherwise true. I got eye floaters after taking bad probiotic supplements which gave me fever dreams. Within two weeks I had floaters and migraines. My gut damage and the immune response damaged everything in my body. Keep up your research doc!

What you said is true the floaters are moving more quickly now, maybe there are more quantities of floaters because I think the floaters are breaking in smaller pieces and this is the reason why it could be less darker, pineapple is known and used in the kitchen to break meats tissues, and before the recent research, I thought why they don't research Papaya because they use it for the same usage, if what I'm noticing is not an illusion I think a good diet that includes Penaple and some critics such as vinegar and lemon could be the definitive solution, finally if I have any update I will keep posting.

You definitely need to take a much higher dose and for a lot longer to see results. I have been taking it for almost a year and I notice improvement. They are a lot lighter in color/ more transparent. Recently I started taking papaya, garlic and other protease enzymes and it seems to have given it a bit of a turbo boost. Now I have some evidence it’s actually breaking them down. One used to be a straight dark line in the middle of my vision, now the top half is starting to curl over and bend which I take as evidence the enzymes are working to break them down. I agree they also move more but I’m ok with that considering my big one could not have been in a worse spot, right down the center of my vision. Now it often swooshes to the side. I have also noticed some new floaters and I wonder if the Enzymes may be making more of them. But I’m staying the course for while. Overall they have improved a lot. I’m a pilot so my vision is important to me. There was a time years ago when the main one would freak me out in the air thinking it was another plane! I’m glad at least that doesn’t happen any more:) Recently I’ve been experiencing with Ozonated eye drops (Ozonest brand) I think they may be helping them fade and get lighter as well.

    6. Don't squeeze or use fingers or any eye related exercise.. just keep natural eye movement. Should not give any stress on eye.. also don't cough heavily to avoid eye pressure
    7. Avoid tv/mobile/laptop as much possible
    8. Add fruit in dailt - I eat 5 fruit everyday
    9. Run for 15 minutes everyday

I'm very skeptical of the people claiming that it takes a year or two for the bromelain to work. Is there any other drug treatment that takes that amount of time to work on the body? I've heard of it taking a month before a drug takes its full effect, but not an entire year before you notice anything. I'm not a doctor so correct me if I'm wrong but that just seems like a huge rationalization to make the claim totally unfalsifiable. All I know is these floaters are effectively blinding me. I've had one or two since I was a little kid, slowly developing more as I got older. They peaked at around age 16 and I hadn't been bothered with new ones for the next ten years, and learned to live with what I had. Then last year I was hospitalized for covid and a few weeks after getting out I started getting a massive increase in floaters, and they continue to get worse every week or so. They're so big and so dark and I'm at the point now where a floater is pretty much always in my field of vision. It seems like I'm getting the opposite effect of what you're describing in this video, like the floaters get harder and harder to move away from my field of vision. I tried to increase my consumption of pineapple by a bit since I heard about this study but I haven't been able to do it very consistently. I'll try it but I'm not doing it for a year. I'll be blind by then probably. Anyway I'm just venting. I really don't have anything to add other than good luck to everyone suffering from this.

I have visual snow syndrome, which means that my brain can't process unnecessary visual stimuli as before, and that has left me with a ton of visual disturbances, were the worst one is the static, but something else that we with VSS or HPPD gets is that we start seeing a ton of floaters and blue field entopic phenoma. Prior to getting this i saw two worm like ones when looking at the sky, now there's atleast twelve, and 6-7 of them are circles bunched together, they're real annoying.

I'm going to try the same experiment. 500mg supplements per day. Just a question, do you think eye dilation drops can cause floaters? I had a significant increase directly after my appointment. I'm due to see an ophthalmologist next week and I'm anxious about the drops. Just adding to your point on bromelain reducing the "darkness" of floaters, I heard that from another source that did the 3 month experiment. I have around a dozen floaters in each eye and they're either dark blobs of joined bubbles, bright dark spots or stringy dark vertical lines (the worst ones for me). I hope it does reduce the darkness. I'm from the UK too so can I come to your practice instead because you're the only expert with a darn academic interest in this 😂

Can pineapple possibly make floaters worse? I am 67. I have had small amoeba like floaters most of my life. Last year when I first saw the article about pineapple possibly making floaters vanish, I thought even if it does nothing to help the floaters, eating pineapple cannot hurt right? So I began eating the recommended amount daily. After one month not only did the floaters not improve, but suddenly i had a gigantic cloud in my left eye and flashes of light in my peripheral vision when I moved my eyes left and right. Fearing a detached retina, I went to the retina specialist. No detached retina but now huge floaters from vitreous gel coming loose from the retina. In another two weeks the same thing occurred to my right eye.
So maybe it is all age related. But if the bromelain in the pineapple does somehow change the consistency and integrity of the gel inside the eye, then maybe it is possible that it can make matters worse and not necessarily better for floaters.
Oh, and on top of the new large floaters, the acid in the pineapple gave me weekly canker sores and acid indigestion.

    • @rebeccabaxterbard8073
      @rebeccabaxterbard8073 Před rokem

eating pineapple regularly adds way too much fructose into your system....that alone can have negative consequences...Of course we always want to try and get nutrition from food over supplements if possible but that principle is negated when it comes to high sugar content foods. Plus, and I personally haven't done the research on this, it seems that the bromelain in the quantity necessary for dissolving floaters is found in the fibrous, less edible, part of the plant (much like bioflavinoids are found in the white part of an orange as opposed to the orange itself) and therefore a bromelain supplement is far superior in this case. Additionally it must be taken on an empty stomach, otherwise it is used up digesting your food instead of the floaters. So maybe consider trying a few month experiment again? That is what I recommended to my mom anyway!

It is not clear how bromelain is acting. Eating pineapple can involve other nutrients, in particular organics with sulfur. Bromelain itself may be changing absorption of sulfur compounds from food. MSM eye drops appear to be very effective and the mechanism is more clear. The floater problem is directly due to glycation of the vitreous collagen and any long term fix to the problem is to control blood sugar levels even if there is no type 2 diabetes involved (yet). If you are insulin resistant then this problem has to be addressed. Intermittent fasting is essential since the modern eating regime (three meals a day plus snacks) is long term toxic.

The dermis makes up 90% of skin's thickness. This middle layer of skin: Has collagen and elastin: Collagen is a protein that makes skin cells strong and resilient. Another protein found in the dermis, elastin, keeps skin flexible.--
Pineapples are the only known food source of bromelain, a combination of enzymes that digest protein. That's why pineapple works as a meat tenderizer: The bromelain breaks down the protein and softens the meat. In your body, bromelain makes it easier for you to digest food and absorb it

What research there is doesn’t suggest any issues as long as people are not overdoing it. Always follow directions on the bottle and get good quality products if taking supplements.

Have any of you who comment, have ever used FINASTERIDE or SERENOA REPENS (Used generally for baldness and Hair regrowth), I think that maybe could have a connection to develop this problem

Thanks for sharing, I’m very interested in what might be going on in the eye when people take Bromelain. I’m trying to do more research on this.

@@meyetips i guess pineapple helps..this new floater might have developed due to marijuana(cuz it heats the body)

I'm not 100% sure, but i think the reason you've noticed a "new floater" is because an old floater may have dislodged, making it seem like a new one appeared. I noticed this happening after the third day of Pineapple usage (I drink lots of water, and exercise daily) However, i decided to take a break from the pineapple. It was a bit tough for my gastrointestinal system. I'm considering taking the Bromelain supplement now. Any updates Nakiya?
